Men's 16ths today, then Quarters tomorrow, Semi-finals Sat.
Round of 16 in Women's looks stacked and competitive as well.
In my opinion, this is a good or decent time to begin watching the California Open as a casual fan, or if you're a non-familiar, non-knowledgable new fan of tennis. A handful of potential hollywood blockbuster matches and some talented youngsters who are trying to become more of a household name, or establish themselves on circuit.
As a non-casual fan (and on men's), I may try to root for Fokina, Tabilo, Tiafoe and Garin. Slightly hoping Fucsovics can break into the top 25-35. Hoping that Fokina can get to 52-55% win rate. Finally, I am looking for Fritz to aim to get past Tsitsipas and Ruud, I think Taylor can try to get the #3 spot.
There are 500 if us in India watching the Alcaraz match on youtube. ATP/WTA seem to be doing a great job of finishing off tennis in India. So many people have stopped following tennis because TennisTV's subscription is a ridiculous amount for just non-grandslam tournaments.
Carlitos with prime murray lobbing earlier and now a beautiful slice approach, just perfection
Theres a lot of great players on tour right now. But the excitement from the unpredictability of carlitos is unique. You dont know what he’s capable of sometimes
I mean look at the mental loop Griekspoor's been stuck in for like almost a half hour, or more. It like consumes you. he can hardly hit through the court
the low for me will always be the Miami Hurkacz match. one of many reasons i have that man shitlisted. his crimes? innumerable. his capacity to induce boredom? infinite
i think their matchup is the hardest to forecast on the ATP tbh. nobody else plays quite like either of them, there's 0 real h2h info, they have unique surface quirks, their suffocating defense and fitness could cancel out or reveal their limits, their playstyles could counter each other depending on the day, and they both have struggled against opponents with traits the other has (variety vs shot tolerance) and thrashed opponents with traits the other has (weak serve vs weak forehand). i flip flop on how i think it would go endlessly and i don't trust anyone who claims to be certain
As a Carlos fan, medvedevs game also looks like a nightmare for Carlos; might take him a couple of games to kinda figure out (like against sinner). Daniil has the tools to frustrate Carlos like Jannik did ( remember him yelling to JCF).
Good thing for Carlos is that JCF is here in IW.
Itll be a really interesting match for sure. Both players have unique weapons and both have high tennis iq. I hope itll be similar to the level of entertainment of the jannik carlitos rivalry
I get that smashing a racket isn't "awful behavior" or something, but something about these athletes just smashing 500$ rackets out of frustration rubs me the wrong way.
Fair enough. But still, even just recently, a few months ago, he was a ranked 90+ player. Maybe you change mentalities when you break that 50ish barrier. Just forgetting ur roots
The leg injury might end up helping carlos, he might realize that he has another less physical style of tennis he can rely on, more agressive on serve and return and hugging the baseline like RF (think he was doing this against norrie in rio final when his leg gaveup).
Not saying this should be his default but might work on earlier rounds.
Alcaraz not at his best but Griekspoor can't hope for a comeback unless he stops spraying UEs like Shapo on a breakpoint. Repeating many of the same mistakes too. He can afford to take down the power a little bit in favour of greater accuracy.
It must be tough being griekspoor, he’s trying elevate his game but carlitos at his normal level is just better than him
Clutch and fairly clean tb from alcaraz
Honestly i want to say serve-bot level kick serve
If he improves his ad t serve consistency, he’d be deadly in the ad court. Rn he can’t punish people sitting in the alley waiting for the kick. But man, he has such a good base to work off from
would love to see the graphic they did for Shelton's two meter kick serve, but yeah anyone who can get second serve aces off their kick serve is minimum A tier lol. always fall back on 55% 2nd serve win rate as a good indication that he's some mix of big brain, big safety, and big from neutral. Ad T would be huge anywhere but especially in the Djokovic matchup, cuts off his angles and sets up a Nadal-like break point stronghold thanks to ad side bias
even if I want alcaraz to win, I want him to lose the first set, make this match interesting.
If alcaraz takes the first, I think a meltdown would come from tallon and a boring match would end being
Dipped way too much since some of the rippers Alcaraz hit including that angle shot, I think he feels like he needs to match with his same winners in order to get back to his normal self.
I find it surprising that TennisTV is live streaming the alcaraz matchon YouTube (they did that with meddy's match yesterday too), is it normal that they do this for full on, proper matches?
I’m not sure if it’s a this tournament thing, but they’ve been live-streaming all week this week. Unfortunately however, it’s not available in the U.S.
Well I was gonna say “in a long time” but that kinda excludes the final where he was injured. Barring that match, I haven’t seen him on his back foot like this since well into last year
I understand that players like Alcaraz, djokovic etc. Are the best of the best but when commentators talk about them like they’re these super humans who are so far above everyone else, it’s so hard to listen to, say it once but the entire commentary is just about how superior Alcaraz is
Ugh yeah, I’m in Canada so no TC+ but the thing is I usually like the commentary for if I look away to know what’s going on but certain commentators are definitely a harder listen than others…
I started watching tennis in 2021so ive watched 3 indian wells with this one. Theres always been upsets because of slower courts and complaints from players / comments on reddit (in the last 3 years ). To me they look as slow as usual but would have to dig vods to judge; i went and saw them live and yeah they look slow asf , but didnt see it live in the past years.
Do they resurface courts every year with different materials that theyre actually slower or is it just normal behavior to complain ? Different balls maybe ?
Griekspoor almost threw away the game... nice volley. Carlitos still finding his groundstrokes, it's interesting how much pace he is taking off of it right now

Alcaraz vs Draper us going to be FUN! (Assuming Draper's leg isn't bothering him.)
For sure
Vamos =P
100th atp win!!! Vamos Carlitos ❤❤❤
Wow, incredible!
Vamos Carlitos!!
100 wins on tour at aged 19, I mean damn.
I need Carlitos to serve it out bc I have school at 7 tomorrow and I need sleeb
Carlitos clutch as usual dw
Sublime all court tennis

Oof, a few loose balls
Carlitos just turns it up a level when he wants to wtf
after a demoralizing start of the second set Griekspoor is finding His game again
somewhat...
spoor hitting through the court slightly bit better now, been like forever. carlitos responding lol
This is like the big 3 matches where they are not at best but are cruising past the opponent.
True in the sense that there was no point in time where I've thought that this match could end in any other way besides a carlitos victory
Carlitos with prime murray lobbing earlier and now a beautiful slice approach, just perfection Theres a lot of great players on tour right now. But the excitement from the unpredictability of carlitos is unique. You dont know what he’s capable of sometimes
Why can’t I see the Tennis TV youtube stream with VPN? Which countries did they make it available in?
I know India is one of them
Tried India, Bangladesh but still says not available :(
Probably have to get an obfuscated vpn connection. It's YouTube not some random shitty website
I am on ExpressVPN
Steve Nash?
and Dirk Nowitzki
Honestly my confidence would absolutely crumble if I played against Alcaraz. How does a human being produce these kinds of shots
I mean look at the mental loop Griekspoor's been stuck in for like almost a half hour, or more. It like consumes you. he can hardly hit through the court
One of least entertaining Alcaraz matches ever. Still pretty good.
the low for me will always be the Miami Hurkacz match. one of many reasons i have that man shitlisted. his crimes? innumerable. his capacity to induce boredom? infinite
He still draws in the crowds they did it to Nadal and Federer too, saving them for last match of the day.
griekspoo is done, this match is over gg
Now that was a RIDICULOUS angle Carlitos
Carlitos angles and power on the run are just absurd
You will learn to take advantage of Carlitos’ humanity when it presents itself. It never lasts long
Holy shit what an angle
Griekspoor backhand is letting him down so much during returns
Oof can't miss that return
x2
Alcaraz's game looks like a nightmare for medvedev if they ever meet.
i think their matchup is the hardest to forecast on the ATP tbh. nobody else plays quite like either of them, there's 0 real h2h info, they have unique surface quirks, their suffocating defense and fitness could cancel out or reveal their limits, their playstyles could counter each other depending on the day, and they both have struggled against opponents with traits the other has (variety vs shot tolerance) and thrashed opponents with traits the other has (weak serve vs weak forehand). i flip flop on how i think it would go endlessly and i don't trust anyone who claims to be certain
Excellent analysis
Just imagine if they never played each other. The agony of not knowing who'd win...
I'm looking at the brackets right now on the Indian Wells website and it looks like they would meet in the final if they met
The kick serves and drop shots are gonna be so key in that match
I get that smashing a racket isn't "awful behavior" or something, but something about these athletes just smashing 500$ rackets out of frustration rubs me the wrong way.
You’d think that in professional sport as expensive but low paying as tennis, these top 50 guys would have more concern for their equipment
The top 50 guys aren’t paying for their equipment. It’s below the top 50 where they have to be more careful.
Fair enough. But still, even just recently, a few months ago, he was a ranked 90+ player. Maybe you change mentalities when you break that 50ish barrier. Just forgetting ur roots
its quite cringe

That poor tennis racket didn't deserve that
Mazel tov!
Impressive racket destroy by Griekspoor
Dang, snapped the neck of the racquet like you would when hunting rabbits.
Griekspoor frustration is understandable
:O hows that for expressing emotion on court
not looking great for the tulip now
Kasatkina finally meets someone with a worse second serve lol
I feel Griekspoor did almost eveyrhing well this set, but it was just not enough
I don't think he did lol. He served well, though.
Pretty unfortunate for Griekspoor to run into this guy R3
Vamos Carlitos!!
He was built in a lab. There's no other explanation
Alcaraz not at his best but Griekspoor can't hope for a comeback unless he stops spraying UEs like Shapo on a breakpoint. Repeating many of the same mistakes too. He can afford to take down the power a little bit in favour of greater accuracy.
Shapo catching strays
He takes down the power a bit and carlitos will just move him around like a puppet. He needs to overhit to even have a chance at this match
he went through a pretty terrible dip, just needs to not do that
The delta between Alcaraz's good and bad serving days is huge
Who is the redhead next to Larry Ellison?
what a clean winner to seal that set! carlitos coming for this title!
Vamos
[удалено]
he looks like he's wearing emotions on his sleeves from what I'm seeing
It must be tough being griekspoor, he’s trying elevate his game but carlitos at his normal level is just better than him Clutch and fairly clean tb from alcaraz
damnnn that return from griekspoor was filthy
Im still sad not gonna see an Alcaraz v Murray match
Alcaraz serve is probably not among the best, but the kick serve is insane
Honestly i want to say serve-bot level kick serve If he improves his ad t serve consistency, he’d be deadly in the ad court. Rn he can’t punish people sitting in the alley waiting for the kick. But man, he has such a good base to work off from

Where can I watch the Alcaraz match?
In some countries you can watch it on yt on the tennistv channel, they're live streaming it.
Thanks, I’m guessing the US isn’t one of those countries.
It isn't, I hear, but ig you could try with a vpn.
Thanks
Carlitos flexing his huge amounts of finesse, so well rounded
The Gracheva ascent continues. First set against Dasha, 6-4.
what impressive weeks from gracheva.
Wild that griekspoor is outhitting the Berrettinni forehand and the basilashvili backhand lol
tiebreak-araz
Griekspoor serve has been on point, would not be surprised If he win this tiebreak
Man that kicker out wide is nasty
That dropshot is just RIDICULOUS!
Please don’t say tender age lol
He is unreal with the droppers
Good thing tc plus hasn’t had commentators since Rotterdam
[удалено]
Lol. You’re tripping
What are you talking about they're both holding their own serves right now.
That inside out flick of a forehand winner from Alcaraz was Federer tier. So much talent.
even if I want alcaraz to win, I want him to lose the first set, make this match interesting. If alcaraz takes the first, I think a meltdown would come from tallon and a boring match would end being
Clutch serving
Seeing why Griekspoor is ranked 36 in the world and has a decent record for the year so far.
I would pay an extra dollar to watch court level only and one more dollar to remove commentary on that stream
I pay 2 extra dollars!
Not very high quality so far, too many UE from both.
Griekspoor has shown up to this match. I’m impressed
Dipped way too much since some of the rippers Alcaraz hit including that angle shot, I think he feels like he needs to match with his same winners in order to get back to his normal self.
Timely serving
Alcaraz’s drop shots legitimately make me angry. Nobody should be that good
Judging by the comments I'm so glad for the streams with no commentators
Ditto.
Why is Alcaraz seeming so disinterested?
Wdym? He’s said Vamos like 300289 times hahaha
He even showed us his Calvin’s
Griekspoor playing by far the best tennis of his career this year
My coaching for him has been working well so far. Fearless and lower parts of the net, he gets more consistency this way
He played very good in Rotterdam too, served out of his mind
And the title in Pune
I find it surprising that TennisTV is live streaming the alcaraz matchon YouTube (they did that with meddy's match yesterday too), is it normal that they do this for full on, proper matches?
I’m not sure if it’s a this tournament thing, but they’ve been live-streaming all week this week. Unfortunately however, it’s not available in the U.S.
Right! I did see some comments on yt that it was available only in a few countries. Maybe you could use a vpn and try watching it!
If I didn’t have Tennis TV already, I probably would 😅
This amazon prime commentary is awful.... Talking about american football, the McEnroe brothers and a bunch of other random bs...
I went to Tanzania on my honeymoon….um, you are supposed to be calling a tennis match!
They mention Patrick being president of whatever every time they show him 😵💫
net cord ! tasty one
Who are the commentators? Just seem very annoying and dramatic for no reason
Carlos with the cheeky Calvin Klein sponsorship lol
"Cheeky" 😉
The fall was just to model his Calvin’s /s
camera man thirsty
Calvin Klein undies confirmed
How is rubles Norrie on court three tmro that's crazy
Griekspoor is playing pretty well
Kasatkina / Gracheva on court 2 is a ghost town.
Ok ok, Alcaraz’ hair *now*, last year USO, last year Rio, or two years ago USO?
Now
Is that a new slice for Carlos?? He did a slice backhand down the line with outward side spin kinda like murray or berretini would
Griekspoor gameplan is working well so far. Carlitos having a hard time finding His best game
That drop shot 🤌
Alcaraz looking the closest to human I’ve seen this week
He’s played one match so far bud
Well I was gonna say “in a long time” but that kinda excludes the final where he was injured. Barring that match, I haven’t seen him on his back foot like this since well into last year
Did the commentators just have a heated discussion on what sports teams you can support?
‘Murica
Damn announcer, get off his dick
Griskpoor looks good
Supporting both the Heat and the Lakers is indeed absurd, I am disgusted
Did he say blue and gold? Wtf?
Yes, yes he did, no words
Jesus, how can Alcaraz keep this up for whole tournaments. To be 19 again.
Alcaraz is probably going to have one of his scrappy days today.
Feels like Griekspoor needs to make his move in this set sooner rather than later
I like how commentary has abandoned this game to talk about nash and nowitzki lol
Got to give Griekspoor his kudos for that 40-15 point. Hanging in there with Carlitos.
Omg.. Did he just call him 'clay court Cam' followed by saying Alcaraz almost won..
Nash and dirk hanging out
Dang Steve Nash looking good!
I understand that players like Alcaraz, djokovic etc. Are the best of the best but when commentators talk about them like they’re these super humans who are so far above everyone else, it’s so hard to listen to, say it once but the entire commentary is just about how superior Alcaraz is
I switched to a commentary-less feed, it's so relaxing.
And thus...The benefits of listening to a match without commentators. Highly recommend TC+ if you have it
Ugh yeah, I’m in Canada so no TC+ but the thing is I usually like the commentary for if I look away to know what’s going on but certain commentators are definitely a harder listen than others…
There are streams everywhere for every sports event now. I can even Google this subreddit to find out where to watch one.
Completely understand. As soon as I hear McEnroe (either Patrick or John) or Courier, I flip the channel or mute
Tennis tv is streaming the match on youtube..for anyone who wants to stream from India!
Carlitos serve has been really solid so far
I started watching tennis in 2021so ive watched 3 indian wells with this one. Theres always been upsets because of slower courts and complaints from players / comments on reddit (in the last 3 years ). To me they look as slow as usual but would have to dig vods to judge; i went and saw them live and yeah they look slow asf , but didnt see it live in the past years. Do they resurface courts every year with different materials that theyre actually slower or is it just normal behavior to complain ? Different balls maybe ?
One day Alcaraz will stopping wasting break points
if he upped his BP conversion just a little he'd be a Ferrer tier returner
He's just following his idol.
Federer?
Yep
Playing Alcaraz has to be so hard lol he gets to every ball
you need to be fearless griekspoor, like a radekstepanek
You need to be a rich Greek not a poor Greek!
Griekspoor almost threw away the game... nice volley. Carlitos still finding his groundstrokes, it's interesting how much pace he is taking off of it right now
Did everyone go home or just need a late night snack? Or did they all go watch the Alcaraz match?
Watching Alcatraz match myself. It's got a fair number of people here
Alcatraz? Is he gonna lock Griekspoor up?
Carnitas Alcatraz Vs The Poor Greek
Is that Steve Nash above Alcaraz on his side? Edit: and Dirk!
