This week will culminate on Saturday with the Champions League final and go even beyond with an even more anticipated match on Sunday : >!the Saint-Etienne vs Auxerre relegation playoff!<. And thus, from experience, we know people will change their flair to one or the other so we wanted to offer everyone with the possibility to get these [shiny home-made flairs (Limited Editions, Terms and conditions apply)](https://imgur.com/a/szIXcZC) inspired by what they do on r/ligamx. >!They would be called :Bandwagon_Liverpool: or :Bandwagon_Real_Madrid:!< Thought? All those in favor say Aye. If you have any other (better) ideas we are interested. We were also thinking about bringing back [these "Former_x" flairs from an other special event a year ago](https://imgur.com/a/rIZnwQg)

ddrdavei2

Why do Americans call their sports leagues socialist? There's the same 30 teams every season and nobody can get in unless they buy a spot.

HippoBigga

Socialism for the rich. Just like their version of capitalism is basically that

ManLikeNiz

What do you guys think about that John Barnes Ronaldo quote? There definitely is truth to the statement that if Ronaldo wasn't there then Bruno and Sancho would've had better seasons, not sure about Rashford tho

mintz41

They would have been worse. Sancho wouldn't have magically been a better player and Bruno isn't going to play better without someone finishing his passes into the stratosphere. The concept that they totally changed how they played to suit Ronaldo runs into problems as soon as you realise that this team ran off of vibes from Ole's first day in charge. Without Ronaldo scoring, nobody else was magically stepping in once Greenwood got pied for being a rapist

NotShutdown

If conference league/no European football will be tolerated as long as Sancho and Bruno play better, then yeah I agree...

Cowdude179

I agree with him, they should've stuck to their XI from last year and just added a DM and Sancho, they would've done better league and performance wise instead of catering to Ronaldo's needs

VZ-Faith

Sancho would have still been shit

fifadex

I think if Ronaldo wasn't there man u as a team would have had a worse season.

un32134e4

Calling it now. Bale will score the winner and hold his shirt out like Messi did in front of the fans.

FaustRPeggi

Then get injured. Perfect scenario.

ugotbaited

Hazard will feel like a new signing 💪

AbleFig

After Mbapesos I believe this could be his redemption run

Hessenuk

Can tell the season is dead. Top post is a picture of a football.

BruiserBroly

What a lovely football though?

CryptographerLife686

Idk how to explain it but when City scored that first goal you knew that they were gonna win.

Kanedauke

I knew they were going to win when we scored our second

AnnieIWillKnow

It’s called momentum

Usmntfan7

I don’t usually watch South American football, but I’m planning on watching the Libertadores tonight. I know Flamengo’s good and I want to see what Danilo can do for Palmeiras since I’ve seen he’s highly rated. Any suggestions/breakdowns for a novice on what’s interesting this round would be greatly appreciated.

LemureTheMonkey

>I know Flamengo’s good Not anymore.

TheFakeIceCream

Mason Mount will lead England to the WC quarter finals, believe me.

mintz41

He's never delivered about a 5/10 in an England shirt so I'll believe it when I see it

Cowdude179

The world ain't ready for Money Mase

burningbarn8

*WC win, ftfy.

a471c435

is it just me or are quotes almost exclusively from football players/managers the only ones that are written out by journalists as though they repeated the question back to them? it's always some shit like "what's it like finishing top 4? it's magical" or "was the penalty call correct? I can't say" but in the american leagues I follow, I rarely ever see a journalist do this. i doubt that these people are actually repeating every question back and for some reason it also makes me read the quotes in a condescending tone

ThereWillBeGoals

It's just a shorthand way of stuffing the question into the headline/tweet.

a471c435

just odd to me they quote the person as saying it, as opposed to including the actual quote and then contextualizing it in their own words

ThereWillBeGoals

Space limitations.

seriouslybrohuh

Grealish is a gift that keeps giving. Apparently, he was saying Riyad needed to be taken off because he was playing like Almiron lmao

jim0wheel1

Almiron 2020/21 - 4 goals Grealish 2021/22 - 3 goals

mintz41

Jim how many goals did Almiron score this season just gone. I suspect you're cherry picking

jim0wheel1

No shit, just think it’s funny Grealish is taking the piss out of someone who outscored him whilst playing under Steve Bruce, for fuck’s sake.

Don Levy finally whipped out his wallet for Mboopi and the bastard signed a new contract 😭

BruiserBroly

Nah, going to get some revenge on Man City by trying to unsettle Haaland.

northerncal

Man City to add Mbappe and Haaland to their squad just to finish below champions Newcastle United next season.

msf97

Fabinho+Thiago are actually our only good midfielders, at least for the level of team we are. Keita has had a good season but is generally not really rated. We’re incredible in both boxes which makes up for this but not across a whole season. Dropped points in only two matches with Thiago Compare that to City with Rodri, Bernardo, Gundogan, De Bruyne+Foden and Grealish. Tchouameni going to Real is a big blow.

fifadex

Tchouameni is not that big a blow for me. I agree that he would have been an improvement to Keita but I don't see us as a club that will panic buy a replacement which I assume means us doing a bit of squad strengthening this season, back up RB etc. Locking down a few long term contracts and making do with a minor transfer window this summer like we have done several times in the past and waiting patiently until the right man becomes available. The right man being Bellingham next summer.

NotShutdown

will Thaigo play the final?

AbleFig

asking for friend

NotShutdown

huh?

msf97

I imagine so. His achilles injury is not serious, and taping can support an achilles as well as injections.

sandbag-1

Is it a hot take to say I think Liverpool would have won the league this season if Wijnaldum was still there?

msf97

I think we would have as well, tbh.

seriouslybrohuh

But it's hendo who keeps turning up for big games...

msf97

What big game has he turned up for this season? He was decent in the final at the #6. Nothing more

Cawn123

Well hopefully there are other options out there. They were probably very keen on getting their man after missing out on arguably the best player in the world for the rest of the decade.

msf97

They were always going to just cave in to Monacos demands immediately after Mbappe fell through. Will be interesting to see who we get linked to.

ifispeakaminbigtrble

How petty are you? Give it a rest? Mbappe renewing with PSG is so yesterday

larcenistxd

150m investment for Spurs is being overblown. This is just to just keep Tottenham in contention for 3rd/4th. Man Utd will surely blow another 200m+ this window, Arsenal will probably spend around what Tottenham does. It's not like they're taking the next step and moving into title challenger territory. 150m isn't enough for that.

Cowdude179

Yeah, that's not much money. 70m will go to Bastoni, 80m for Bentancur and Kulusevski combined obligations and that's it

mintz41

Spurs aren't getting Bastoni

jay_alfred_prufrock

It may be overblown but at the same time I think you're underselling it. This isn't all of their available budget, this is an injection on top of whatever they already have and before anything they might get from player sales. If spent wisely, an extra 150 million would go a long way towards making them better. Might not be a title challenger, obviously, but still could make their Top 4 (maybe even 3) challenge much easier, while also giving them a better chance at CL and other cups.

KrillWhitey

I love these comments more than all the celebratory ones, lol

[deleted]

150m is just the injection from the club. We will get at the VERY LEAST 70m from player sales and we already have a good chunk set aside for the summer(just like every club). Arsenal will certainly not spend around what Tottenham does. They haven’t been in UCL for 7 years and they don’t have that much money or assets to sell. Arteta already hinted and aaid that they don’t have “unlimited money”. So the 150m will just be added on top of our normal club budget.

sandbag-1

Which players are Spurs going to sell to get £70m? And how much will they get for each of these players?

[deleted]

Villareal and Betis are very keen to sign Lo Celso and rumoured to be around 25-30m. Steven Bergwijn’s price tag is 25m. Joe Rodon at the very least will go for 10m. Dele will bring in 10m this season. That’s 70m. Reguilon will also go for 25-30m. Emerson Royal will go too.

sandbag-1

I can't really see Villarreal or Betis being able to afford 25-30m plus matching Prem level wages for Lo Celso. Nor can I see Bergwijn or Rodon being able to find buyers at the same price Spurs bought them for after they've both barely played any football for 2 seasons

Purple-Whiskey

You seriously think Tottenham is going to spend 220m this summer? hahahahahahhaha

mintz41

Tottenham will spend roughly what Arsenal spent last summer, and Arsenal will probably spend the same again.

[deleted]

Are you just pulling that out of your ass or do you have a source? All of your Tier 1 sources are saying that we are signing at the very least 6 ready made players.

mintz41

Because who are Tottenham realistically signing to total £200m or thereabouts?

NotShutdown

Why do I sometimes see "vote" beside the upvote/downvote button, while other times I see the number?

Re-noire

30 minutes and older comments on the sub have their number of upvotes turned visible, else they are hidden for the duration otherwise. This is usually done to avoid mass up/downvoting.

Can u see the number of votes my comment has? Cause I can see it, and I posted it 17 min ago? Or I can see it cause I posted it? Thx for the reply didn't expect anyone would as it's a soccer subreddit (dunno where to post it...)

Real Madrid, Liverpool, Bayern, and Juventus, are the 4 clubs that will be given the duty to protect Europe from oil money for the next 5 years... If there are any objections reply, changes are possible till 28 May 2 hours before the final... The clubs are expected to build a strong dominant squad to prevent the filthy oil clubs from getting near European glory, the expectations are for those 4 clubs to reach the semi-finals at least for the next 5 years This was not serious (f u didnt know yet), I just thought someone would go with the flow or something... 😐 Plus, can u see how many votes this comment has, or its says "vote"?

LonzoBetter

Those clubs are the reason "oil money" exists lol If football had a path for clubs like Man City pre-2008 to progress and rise to that level, they wouldn't have needed investments from an entire state

LordVelaryon

that's isn't just a pretty stupid logic, but also a false one. Plenty of teams rose the to the top with "only" a millonaire owner, from Milan to Chelsea. The State-owned clubs didn't start out of necessity, they did just because those States were interested on a PR project.

Wiseman-Dennis

Juventus are constantly granted cash injections by the Agnelli family €700m in the last 5 years or something

mintz41

Aww ickle Real Madrid, sponsored by Emirates

MJ9695

The corrupted Real Madrid and Juve protect what exactly tf?? Damage been done long time ago by clubs like you

BruiserBroly

Don't worry, hopefully we'll help out soon. Together we are strong!

NotShutdown

... We need more clubs, Portugal, who coming from u? France?

clashoftherats

u/BruiserBroly Should we tell him?

RickThiCisbih

Juventus? Really? Allegri is washed, they're not doing anything in Europe until they get a manager that can actually make the most of Vlahovic and all the other attacking talent that they'd have. Milan and Inter both have a better chance in Europe than Juventus.

NotShutdown

Then who should we hire from Italy? Inter maybe? Milan needs time

RickThiCisbih

We're not hiring anybody...

NotShutdown

I get it, we can do it alone (like this season) but its better to have help, right?

1PSW1CH

Could you remind me of your shirt sponsor please? I forgot

YoungDan23

I'm all for this £150m *injection* for Tottenham but am I the only person who thinks this type of stuff is unsustainable? We have Premier League money but still feel the need to do this to back our manager? I don't get it. I wish there was some sort of regulation on this type of stuff. These are the moves that literally make it impossible for clubs without as much money to keep players.

IAMJesusAMAA

The £150m is mostly from an increased revenue the club has seen the past 5 years. Look at their involvement with the NFL and their marketing in Korea with Son for example (They're even doing a pre-season tour there this summer).

mintz41

Because the club is in win now mode with Conte, especially considering the age of Kane and Son. Probably the best chance the club has of actually winning something so they have to invest or they'll be fully exposed for the unserious club they are. Arsenal and United will also spend about that type of money, Chelsea probably as well, so they have to keep pace with them too

random23448

Tbf it’s probably because they got a lot of debt to pay so they aren’t self-sustaining

Top_Agent868

In the past few years Tottenham’s value has gone up considerably, think of this as reinvesting some of that value, ENIC are still up a huge amount after putting £150m in and if the £150m helps them win something then value will increase again etc It’s much more organic growth than other clubs whose owners pump in a lot of money

wonderful_mixture

150m isnt even that much in this economy

pixelkipper

from Spurs’ perspective, Conte is very much a ‘win now’ kind of manager. you back him heavily and you see results. if Levy is actively stingy with a known quantity like Conte then he’s telling the entire managerial world that he’s a fucking nightmare to work with.

Fardin_the_spardin

I think Robert Lewandowski should go to BlackBurn Rovers to envision what his life could've been had Klopp not found him

NotShutdown

Is Thiago looking good? Will he play the final?

Cowdude179

Fabinho, Thiago and VVD will be rusty and playing on injections, easy win for you guys

NotShutdown

Hopefully, I think agent Rudiger did a good job vs Liverpool...

geo_bowes

Ngl Reddit has some of the worst opinions on who should be in the England squad. The fact that I found ‘Big 6’ fans questioning Bowen’s place is enough internet for me today

sandbag-1

I've not seen a single person questioning Bowen's inclusion in the squad

Murakami241

That’s surprising. Bowen definitely deserves the call up.

Manc_Twat

Bowen is probably one of the most deserving of a call up.

burningbarn8

My hot-take is the squad's good and the changes people are bitching about wouldn't make a significant difference.

pixelkipper

this should not be a hot take the fact that people are arguing about who england’s third choice RB should be is insanity, only the first XI and a few subs matter in a short international tournament.

geo_bowes

Exactly, asides from maybe adding Dier in over Maguire, or finding a way to get Maddison in the squad there’s not much we can improve now

BendubzGaming

I'd still keep in Maguire because he's very reliable for England, but swap Dier in for Coady. And Maddison over JWP, but they're both very minor gripes. Really like the squad Southgate has picked

geo_bowes

Fair enough, this has easily got to be the best squad that I’ve seen Southgate pick so far, I fear that Maguire might be a weak link in our defence though as most of the opposition England face are far weaker than the opponent, however he’s played good for us in the past being part of the Euros Team of the Tournament, I don’t see any reason why we can’t go all out and win the World Cup this time round

solgnaleb

Bowen Marsh?

ugotbaited

>| Ancelotti will meet with the board to decide on the striker situation next week. @FabrizioRomano Wow this is good stuff

The_XI_guy

I want Jesus

holdenmyrocinante

You need Jesus

ZachMich

Something I haven’t seen spoken about much was Gerrard's pretty poor tactics and subs. Taking your best player off in Coutinho for a DM was an amateur move. He invited more pressure on them and they didn’t have the threat of Coutinho to use then. It got overshadowed by City obviously, but I think that was a bit naive from him

lenzmoserhangover

specialist in slippage for a reason

Jabari313

Coutinho can't play more than 70 minutes

ZachMich

I wasn’t aware tbh, he was playing well

pixelkipper

If he had taken any other player off for a DM it would have been a great sub

LovieBeard

Coutinho didn't have the stamina to keep playing

melorio

What is Madrid going to do with Rodrygo? Isn’t he only really good where vinicius plays?

AbleFig

Asensio is more a doubt for me

cdg6921

Sadly he will have to adapt or he ll be sold.

RickThiCisbih

Tbf the two goals against City were scored while he was playing RW. I think there's a great player in there, but he hasn't really found his role yet. Some fans want to turn him into a striker, but I think he's more of an inside forward.

Akshath321

how many goals would ronaldo score at rennes i think he'd definitely score 15

TiberiusCornelius

At least 1

avolcando

30, but they'd get relegated

holdenmyrocinante

More than 5

Comprehensive-Ear896

True but a CWC means you have won a CL already

mintz41

Nah FA Cup over the CWC for sure. The CWC is basically a friendly

Tryeeme

I've spoken to some Spaniards who rate the CWC very highly, but here in the UK it's largely seen as a glorified friendly. So maybe it varies by country, but here, the CL.

lcardiB

No one in Spain cares about the Club World Cup

nice_lasagna

No one in Spain rates the CWC highly

mintz41

CL easily. Don't think European clubs take the CWC particularly seriously

Destroyeh

sometimes i forget the Club World Cup exists

WailingSouls

Me too, not sure why I got downvoted lol

AnnieIWillKnow

Because it was a question with only one answer

kplo

Boca only can compete in one of those, so the CWC

burningbarn8

How's that a question? CL obvi.

solgnaleb

probably absolutely based on where you are from. To me as a German the CWC feels more like a friendly. The CL is the biggest club title you can aspire to get. Only the World Cup is bigger.

pixelkipper

I would say Euros/Copa America are bigger than the CL as well. Any international trophy is realistically.

Pugz4Life16

Napoli's long nightmare may finally be over with Mathias Olivera replacing Mario Rui. I will not have to look at his facial hair on the teamsheet every match(though I'm sure he will still get plenty of gametime).

3V3RT0N

What makes southern Italy and England so unsuccessful compared to the north in their respective countries?

VeryBadflower

England's 3 most successful teams are in the North though

AnnieIWillKnow

That’s what they’re saying

VeryBadflower

lol I completely misread that comment

sandbag-1

Football is not the most popular sport in many areas of southern England. At least historically

thegreateyesofthesky

In the case of England is it simply that the north has been more interested in football? The south has never been underrepresented, but maybe it just preferred rugby and cricket. If you go back to the era of players playing near exclusively for local clubs it seems a lot of the top English players were northern

nonhofantasia

Southern Italy is poorer and with less big cities Southern England I imagine it's because most of the industries where in the North, football is a worker's sport and that

SamyChouchane

please respect us please

LovieBeard

Southern Italy was part of the Kingdom of the two sicilies, which was poor and lacked the industry of the North

nichodemus3

Besides the economic reasons the other poster mentioned in the early editions of the Italian league there were no clubs from the South because of the travel distance. Most of the original clubs were in the industrial areas near Milan, Turin, Genoa and Bologna. If I remember right Napoli were the first Southern club to properly participate in the national league in 1927.

mintz41

Southern Italy is basically a different (third world esque) country to the North, the economic gap is huge. England it's hard to say because there are still Arsenal and Chelsea in London, which is also more prosperous than up North.

[deleted]

I thought Harvey Barnes was having a poor season but I just read he's got 16 goals and assists.

addictedToArSocca

Sterling has 13 goals and 5 assists in the league alone

[deleted]

Then the stat I read was *very* confusing and wrong and probably someone tweeting rubbish. I think they had Maddison with 30 and Barnes with 16, Sterling with 15, odd tweet then.

msf97

He’s been shite apparently. 2 goals and an assist against Watford and also 2 assists against Norwich are a help there

nbaylor1

Man thinks he’s mason mount😹

TheFakeIceCream

Mount is world class TBF.

msf97

Very similar to Mount tbh. Foden as well.

burningbarn8

Mount was great this season, and is a much much much better player than Harvey Barnes.

[deleted]

Yeah also I misunderstood the stat, it's 16 in the league it seems, it was confusing. Anyway, I do rate him quite a bit for his general play but yeah I had thought people had been saying he'd been poor.

lagaryes

Is there some kind of legal requirement for Spurs to notify the public when there’s been a cash injection? Otherwise I don’t understand why they’d let everyone know they have a fuckload of money to spend and can be leveraged for higher fees.

YoungDan23

>Otherwise I don’t understand why they’d let everyone know they have a fuckload of money to spend and can be leveraged for higher fees. It's also annoying to us supporters on a few different fronts. We have heard for years we have no money to spend and effectively wasted an incredible side because of it. We only needed Daniel Levy to realise just how bad things can get before fixing it. It's also annoying to a supporter when you see our ticket prices skyrocketing every year. We're in the richest league in the world yet still need to move money around to stay relevant.

cdg6921

Could Tchouameni play as an 8? Don't see him getting many minutes over Casemiro this season if he does end up coming. Carlo often benches Modric, Kroos but never Casemiro. He plays whenever fit.

RickThiCisbih

Tchouameni plays as part of a double pivot for Monaco, so he's more of a 6/8 hybrid than a pure midfielder in either position. He's definitely versatile enough to play as an 8 or as a 6, so it's up to Ancelotti to find a way to fit him into the lineup. I'd say he needs to develop his defensive positioning first though if he wants to spend more time at the 6 position.

Superb_Mirror_9236

He likely needs to start being integrated as the others do. With the slight decline in technical quality of your two central midfielders as you transition to Camavinga and Valverde, you will need to have a more technical DM. I imagine the goal will be starting to transition all of them in the next 1-2 years.

Akshath321

let your young 8s play as 8s imo
