Do you reckon football would be better to watch if draws meant 0 points instead of 1? both teams trying to win instead of playing for a draw?
No, then a losing team would be incentivized to just turtle and try to protect GD. It's why 1 point for a draw was instituted (after Italia 90, iirc) in the first place.
If you did something like this it would be better just to do 0-0 = 0 points. Score draws give 1
I'm ok with this if losing = -1.
No. Draws are not the same as losses, that you’re giving them equal credit.
its not really about making them equal, its more about making both teams fight for the victory instead.
I got your point, but it still isn’t fair. If a team comes back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3, they receive nothing for it apart from also making the other team drop points. It then turns the game into something where the only incentive to try in games is to drag the other teams down rather than make ground yourself, which isn’t right to me. You’ll see games of lesser intensity, boring ends, and little importance apart from when two rivals in the league standings are playing.
thats fair tbh. if one side dominates in the first half, it does seem pretty pointless for the losing side to try anything in the second half. They'd much rather prefer to retain fitness and avoid injuries that go full out attack just to negate the opponents from getting the points, other than in certain circumstances.
play for PSG for 2-3 seasons then go to my favourite club afterwards.
I don't think people (Madrid fans, non-PSG fans) appreciate the kinds of pressures Mbappe is under right now. Of any high profile transfer in recent years, this might be the biggest a player has been put under. The president of his country, who he seemingly respects and seemingly has a decently close relationship with, is pressuring him to stay. The former president of his country as well. Those two are probably honeying him and his family with a bunch of patriotic platitudes.
The entire state of Qatar is pressuring him to stay with obscene financial and sporting promises. Even the hopes of PSG fans to an extent. He still has affection for the club. For his hometown.I know RM is the biggest club ever blah blah. But if Mbappe chooses RM, there should be a measure of gratefulness, initially. Will also be confirmation of RM's intense pulling power. He has too many connections to PSG and not that many to RM. This is insanity.
I hope he leaves PSG personally. It's a bit sad this can't just be a normal transfer.
It's not a simple, "yeah, I'll go follow my dreams" at this point.
He's a human being. I'm not surprised he is indecisive. To me, it would take an immense amount of willpower and character to turn down PSG at this point.
Since Chelsea, Mourinho usually has a pattern with his second season being more impressive than his first at a club, his first always being "transitional"
Inter: 2008-09 same as before as they won Serie A but won nothing else and still underperformed in Europe, 2009-10 treble
Madrid: 2010-11 improved them in Europe but in the league still outdone by Barca, 2011-12 record setting 100 point season
Chelsea: 2013-14 finished 3rd and lost home record to Sunderland, 2014-15 wins the league
Man United: 6th place finish with a couple of trophies 2016-17, 2nd place finish 2017-18
Only one to break this cycle so far is Spurs where he didn't really get to buy anyone notable.
What I'm saying is Roma will win Serie A, the Champions League and the Coppa Italia treble next season. You heard it here first.
What do you reckon happens to Tammy Abraham next? Stays in Italy or gets a big money move back to the Prem?
I’m a Celtic fan and naturally hate Chelsea but honestly think Tammy is underrated. Has a decent goal record with Chelsea despite then having fuck all creative players when he was there.
I think he gets 15 odd goals a season in the prem with decent service.
Both of Isco's first and last league games for Real Madrid came under Ancelotti.
• vs Betis 13/14
• vs Betis 21/22
This is pretty cool.
auxerre v sochaux is going to a penalty shootout in the ligue 2 playoffs
Auxerre better get promoted 😔
Edit: they are through to the finals !!!
Underwhelming farewell for Marcelo, but then I realised he might be renewing so thats why.
We havent scored against Betis at the Bernabeu in 5 seasons haha
That's a pretty impressive stat
last time Madrid scored a home league goal vs Betis they still had 11 CLs
This has happened in basketball as well. Professionals even the ones we think of as shit are closer to Messi levels than Amateurs are to them. Lines are obviously more blurred with the depth of the football pyramid in England tho
It's like they have endless stamina. They never tire.
And the technique is literally unaffected by fatigue.
And what amazes me most is the efficiency of their movements. They can fuck around and all, but the moment they want to be serious it's like no movement is wasted. Insane execution.
It tells you how mind-bogglingly good pros are if those in the lower divisions are that good compared to your average Joe.
It's almost underrated how much depth there is in football.
I had a friend growing up - he was really good so far ahead of all of us technically. He went to the U 17 world cup in..Egypt I believe? and came back to tell us all about this "Kroos" guy from Germany who was insane and felt like he was playing a different sport to everyone else.
My friend ended up playing college in America and some USL I think.
And your friend would probably still absolutely roast top amateur players. The competition in the sport is insane.
Oh he 100% would. I'm ok and when we play pick up he's mile ahead of everyone. The comp is madness globally.
Exactly. It’s not like Olympic sports etc where you can just throw money at people to make them good at a sport. Sure you can coach them to make them better but can’t give natural footie ability.
That’s why I love football a guy from a slum with no money can make it if he has talent, not the same in rugby basketball athletics etc
> got absolutely destroyed by someone who’d be considered “shit” in the league 2 and only played like 4 pro games in his career.
I played against someone who used to be a League 1 player a few years back. he was a "Friend of a Friend", but absolutely ruined us as if he was Messi. it was then I realised just how fucking good you need to be to play professionally. I honestly reckon a lower midtable PL player could take on a full sunday league team and win.
Exactly. The difference between me who got cut from the u18s and the lads who made it to the seniors is astronomical. Imagine what it’s like at bigger clubs and academies hahah and that’s only to make the team never mind proper break into the match day squad.
This is one reason why I always find the leagues discussion to be really pointless. The difference in quality at the top is very minimal.
On any day most of the players on the pitch are pretty damn even but of course the best are more consistent.
But the levels are so high one player feeling just a bit more confident on a specific matchday can change the entire match.
Exactly. Most teams if you take out their 5/6 star players the rest are neck and neck in competition especially for bench positions.
Two lads in my academy played cam, both were amazing not a hair between them in ability but one fit the system of the seniors slightly better. Especially now with the money in football, I’m general gone are the days of cbs and and cdms who can’t pass or offer attacking options.
Benfica have announced a new signing just when I was going to start complaining about Benfica not doing enough in the market
Market just started.
No, registration time is opening, the market is available at all times
Marcelo and Joaquin bowing to each other post match - this season finale is emotional af
Very much so both legends
They're both signing a new deal I think
There are four managers that have won multiple PL titles.
Fergie, Wenger, Mourinho and Pep.
For all his flaws, Wenger is the only manager out of the 4 that didn't have an incredible spending advantage and that is something I give him a lot of credit for.
His Arsenal from 1997-2005 was a really good team domestically without blowing the competition away financially.
Wenger is often underappreciated by football fans imo. All-time great in my view.
Does anyone else just have random footballers from back in the day pop into their head? Remember Marlon Harewood?
For me its Michael Ballack, still one of my favorite football players.
Felt really gutted when I read that his son has died last year, imagine loosing your son who is only 18 years old.
Has this recently with Nikopolidis. Remember being in the garage with my brothers as a kid smacking the ball as hard I could against the ‘goal’ screaming ‘GERRARD’ to admittedly frighten them and score a free goal and then having to swap, play defence and defend for my life and out of all of the Goalkeepers in the world, I an English lad pictured myself as a grey haired Nikopilidis
Other players like Pascal Cygan, Riera and Baros cross my mind…it’s weird…
Is anyone going to the Finalissima (Argentina vs Italy) game at Wembley Stadium in London on June 1st?
I bought my tickets back in March on the UEFA website but never received the actual tickets.. I got an email with only the receipt. Does anyone else have the same issue by any chance?
Thank you for any input!
Which Premier league teams will be touring the U.S. this summer?
Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton I think
Wolves as well.
Not manchester united

Watching Joaquin vs Marcelo on the wing in 2022 is wholesome af
What a story it couldve been if Jaoquin scores there.
Bit of a quiet evening tonight so lets have some fun. Rank these in order of what you would prefer to happen to you (1 being most preferable).
1.Getting drop kicked by Cantona
2.Getting spat on by Carragher
3.Getting your hand and phone slapped by Ronaldo
4.Getting decked by Vieira
Where is Hazard?
I know that 2 would be the worst.
Being spat on just makes you feel inhuman.
Ask any teen they'd say 3 is the worst since they can't live without their phones. Not to mention getting invited to watch the same guy who destroyed your phone.
1. Getting spat on by Carragher
2. Getting decked by Vieira
3. Getting drop kicked by Cantona
4. Getting your hand and phone slapped by Ronaldo
2 and 4 are debatable. I don’t think vieira actually hit the guy just tried to, but if ur saying getting decked then I’d rather be spat on
By decked I mean trip over basically. Liiked like he made the guy fall over with a perfectly executed kick to the leg.
You kinky sod. I actually hate the idea of someone spitting on me, its derogatory
If it’s just that then I’d rather be tripped, that kick didn’t look too painful. Spitting is nasty ur right
I find it funny how if you go to subs like r/premierleague, if some new lad comes and asks which club he should support, all the plastics always tell them to support relegation or lower midtable clubs💀
If you cannot figure out who to support on your own, you deserve a midtable/relegation club
(checks own flair) wait...
It's ok if you only did this last season.
They are helping the growing disparity in football, tears in my eyes
> all the plastics always tell them to support relegation or lower midtable clubs💀
as they should. the big clubs have too many fans already.
No, if someone isn’t born here in England and they have no connection to any team in the league. They should not waste their lives living in misery supporting Burnley or Norwich where they will never see their teams play in Europe or compete for major honors.
Some people like underdog and doing business right. If I wasn't a United fan and arbitrarily chose a club I'd probably be a Southampton fan.
its better than supporting a big club like Liverpool or City and furthering the fiscal divide though. I'd rather everyone support a team local to themselves but no matter how much I wish for that, people want to support "Big" clubs.
Eh, you never know, maybe they get lucky with a major takeover, like Newcastle.
But then there are ethical issues
Leicester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are the only teams to fail to win against Everton this season
Only the clubs with ambition will be part of a huge rebuild because of it
worse than Newcastle failing to beat 07/08 Derby County imo
We gave them 4 points… sackable offence IMO
You didn't beat Man United this season. Everyone's beaten us g
Big deal, we never beat United
Losing 4-2 to Arteta is a bigger offense imo
We were just trying to help them get top 4 over Spurs, all part of the plan
I've liked Richarlison ever since he got a debut brace back in 2018
But, that tweet telling spitty to fuck off makes him a hero
The adventures of spitty and slippy.
You're welcome sky, you can have that one for free
It is a bit crazy that he spat in a kids face and sky were just okay with it
kid deserved it for being a child, should have known better
Sky are a business mate, there's only one thing they care about and thats money. Majority of people like Carragher, he makes sky better therfore a slap on the wrist for a bit whilst people forget about it then they bring him back in.
Peopl forget about things fast. Hell wasn't too long ago Grealish broke lockdown rules and crashed his car whilst intoxicated and ran from the scene.A few months later hes englands sweeteart at the euros and the fans are begging Southgate to bring him on.
a facebook conversation between a Polish FA official and Paulo Dybala back in the day lol
“Not at the moment” Hahahaha so polite
Why was the FIFA Confederations Cup scrapped? I actually kinda miss that tournament.
Replaced by a larger club World Cup
And when’s that gonna happen?
2021 was supposed to be the first one, but that plan got nixed by COVID. Now the tentative plan is to the start the new format in 2025
If West Ham are called “The Hammers”, why do they have bubbles when the players make their way to the pitch instead of Hammers?
They used to throw hammers but for some reason they always had a huge injury list
They have this song called I’m forever blowing bubbles, I think it originated when the Nazis were bombing London
I thought it came about when Bubbles lost the ability to cum
The sheer cringe that goes through my body when someone says 'Mboopi' or some derivative of that would be enough to power a house. Just absolute big virgin energy from anyone using it. Can we shun anyone who does it from society please
Mega virgin energy from this comment. Enough to power a city of virgins
Okay American Real Madrid fan.
Yo what was your nickname in Highschool
It is so bad it is good imho.
Mboopi is actually kind of funny. Maybe it’s because you’re the first lad who I ever see using it.
Rumor has it that Mbappe is going to sign for Sunderland
the biggest club in the North East, not really a surprising decision for him
Slightly offensive to Hartlepool but I guess.
I know Mbappe is the equivalent of 5 good players, but if Reals alternative to Mbappe is to splash all that money that has been saved up since 2019 on prospects and great players then…. God damn, I still see that as a huge win, they could have an amazing transfer window like 2014.
I know Madrid feels it’s “incomplete” without that superstar player but if they can gather and build a super strong team then it could possibly be better than just getting Mbappe this summer
>God damn, I still see that as a huge win, they could have an amazing transfer window like 2014.
Real Madrid had a poor transfer window in 2014.
They literally signed Kroos for €20 million, who became arguably the best midfielder in the world. Navas who was one of, if not, the best goalkeeper at the World Cup, he helped them win 3 UCL and was an insane goalkeeper. They signed James, the young star of the Word Cup, who was incredible his first season and well, he didn’t have another season like that one again, but overall he was still good.
They lost balance by letting Di Maria and Alonso go though so that kinda offset the quality of those signings.
Also let Casemiro go on loan at Basel. They could have used him that season.
I think you are underrating that transfer season a bit.
The underlying problem of that season was that in 2013, they had spent big on Asier Illarramendi as "the new Alonso," and he did not deliver in 13-14 or in 14-15. Once it was shown conclusively that he wasn't up for it at a club of this size, he was shipped off and Casemiro (who was largely a nobody) was brought back from Porto (not Basel).
Casemiro did work, and the rest is history.
To think at one point they had Casemiro, Fabinho and Illarramendi and they could have potentially ended up with only Illarramendi (like you said he was seen as the future Alonso).
That would have been a colossal mistake.
Its Porto not Basel. He scored against them.
Shit mixed them up. Sorry.
Absolutely cracking strike that freekick.
Navas Kroos James Chicharito is bad for you?
The 2014 window weakened Madrid.
They lost two important players from their Decima team in Di Maria and Alonso. Those two brought a stability in midfield.
They essentially replaced them with Kroos and James. James unbalanced the team, and while Kroos turned out to be a superb signing, this wasn't seen in the first season as they played him as a DM which isn't his natural position.
Chicharito was an okay signing, but nothing special. Though that goal against Atleti was iconic.
Navas was a great signing as well.
Ultimately it was two great signings (Navas and Kroos), but their impact wasn't really felt in the first season because of poor choices Madrid made (having Casillas as first choice and losing Alonso and Di Maria).
They also let Casemiro go to Basel (albeit on loan).
Maybe poor is harsh (because Kroos and Navas did turn out excellent, just not immediately), but it certainly wasn't amazing like OP said.
Did it help Madrid in long term? Id rather we go trophyless less next season due to this window's signings but end up doing 4 in 5 again.
But that short term loss is what makes me stop short of calling it amazing.
In a way its good we let di Maria and Alonso go. KCM wouldve never happened if he had stayed and Bale needed to be on RW.
Well we're not at Spurs' level but its good enough for Madrid imo.
I think we bought Lamela in 2014 and he went on to score a cheeky rabona against Arsenal. Miles better than however many champions league Pidane won👍
Well we have a shit ton of money and club know it so not sure we will have many great signings
How many goals does tammy abraham have this season?
Pardon my ignorance but what does image rights mean?
McDonalds want to use my picture for their adverts.
If I own my image rights I decide if they can and I get the money.
If I sold them to Real Madrid when I signed Madrid decide and get the money. If I’m a big player this could be a lot of money, and if I prefer Burger King it might be morally conflicting.
There are also compromise deals.
The rights to sell your image. If you sign these away then your image can be sold to companies that want to use it in advertising/promotion.
As much as I dream of a quadruple it seems almost unlikely it'll happen by Sunday. I suppose a Cup Treble won't be such a bad thing to have.
Hopefully more Silverware to come under Klopp.
Not such a bad thing? Any other club in Europe would be over the moon with that
Unless your name is Manchester United.
Mate we'd take winning just the league cup at the minute
He should improve head to head against city
The Brentford question made me think how a starting XI from the other 16 would look like:
Trippier - (Guehi / Fofana) - (Kilman / Gabriel) - (Cucurella / Tierney / Cresswell)
Bruno G. - (Rice / Bissouma) - (Eriksen / Bruno F.)
Bowen - Ronaldo - Richarlison
Bruno G. - Rice - Eriksen would be some midfield
If what Molina said is true, PSG and Madrid are really throwing the club>player concept out of the window. And they don't need to do that. PSG haven't won the Champions League despite having Mbappe for so long. Madrid have already reached the final without him. Both those clubs can probably strengthen the team in other areas and build a solid foundation.
aye, but marketing money...
What’s the record for most points for a team that still got relegated?
West Ham in 2002/03 with 42 points. They had a very good squad.
Supposedly Palace's record points in the league coincided with them being relegated so it might be that. Think it was 48 points.
No chance a team with that many points got relegated in a 38 game season.
It had to be back when there were still 22 teams in the league.
It was a 22 team league. Palace finished with 49 points, just above Middlesbrough with 44 and Forest with 40
49 points in a 38 team league should be relatively comfortable mid-table.
The PL is 42.
in the PL, Crystal Palace got 49 points and still went down in 92/93. However, that was during the 42 game era. in the 38 game era, its West Ham with 42 points.
49 points is still impressive even by the standard of a 24 team season. They also went down on goal difference on the last day
bayern had actually had less of a points lead with 5 subs compared to 3 subs
current season 8 point gap
19/20 13 points
I’m not sure if you watch Bundesliga but idt those are related. Bayern just started playing really bad (for their standards) after their Champions League exit
i do, but i looked up this data because a person was lying saying that bayerns point gap got bigger because of the 5 subs
Don’t wanna be that guy but shouldn’t you just reply to them directly then? This looks like bizarre propaganda at first glance
i did, i just found it interesting
I’m a big fan of 5 subs, but I don’t think those things are related
Player sales should only be open 1 week ever 4 months. Would be fun chaos
Over the last 26 games chelsea are 5th. But it’s definitely just because they stopped trying that entire time and were on the beach or whatever their fans are using to hide the fact they actually aren’t that good.
League position is often quite different in one half of the season than in the other. It's not really a unique discovery.
Didn’t realise 26 was half of 38
you can’t just remove 12 games😭😭
I didn’t? I’m just saw a table for the last 26 games and it’s quite bad that they’re 5th in that time
Online fans have convinced me of the multiverse, constructing entirely new realities that we’ve never experienced
Good thing the season is 38 games, and clearly we ran out of steam for playing to the final in both cups, quarters in the CL, the CWC and the Super Cup.
We are solidly the third best team in the league
You are just not the third best team though. You’re getting third because Nuno was an incompetent manager surely you realise that wouldn’t be the case if Conte was there all year?
If you run out of steam after 12 league games your team probably isn’t that good
And if the queen had balls she would be king. Conte wasn’t the manager all year there. They didn’t play nearly as many extra games as we did, and the extra games we played weren’t exactly walks in the park.
All of the underlying statistics have us as the third best team, comfortably behind Liverpool and Manchester City, and slightly ahead of the rest of the league.
Since Conte came in they have been better than you so you aren’t the third best team
We beat them four times in a single season, finished higher in the table, and advanced further in both domestic cups, all while playing a far more rigorous European/club World Cup schedule.
There’s seriously no argument here
IDC how many times you beat them. They have more points in the league in that time which usually decides which team is better.
You are a better cup team but you’re not a better team Imo especially for the league which is what my point was even about
Damn, who Thanos-snapped the first 11 games?
The league season was still 38 games last time I checked
Intentionally missing the point
I'm intentionally saying that your point is shit
How good do you think Chelsea are? Where would they finish if they ran this season over again?

Spurs are a better team if the season started again right now.
And yeah I agree with that I don’t see the point being there if you can’t actually win
Who's finishing in 3rd?
So your big wake up call for Chelsea is that they might have swapped places with the team directly below them?
Thomas Frank's buzzing bees
See you next year when we finish above you again x.
