So why don't they get annoyed at the players for wearing shirts with Alcohol/Betting sponsors? or are they just hiding behind "religion" so they can be homophobic
Because there's different degrees of opposition to gambling and alcohol than homosexuality. They don't kill gamblers or alcoholics but they kill gays in islamic countries.
Which is why Newcastle's LGBTQIA nonsense fell flat yesterday. You don't get to pretend to be an ally when your owners are literally murdering LGBTQIA people.
Edit: If you want to actually be an ally, you call out your own relationship with a deeply homophobic owner.
When you think about it, gambling and alcohol sponsors are legitimately meant to encourage people to go out and gamble and drink. In their eyes, to go out and sin. Whereas pride designs are simply meant to acknowledge that there are LGBTQ+ people out there and that they deserve to be treated with dignity. It’s never been about encourage people to go out and “become” gay (I know that’s not how being gay works).
Maybe it’s just me, but encouraging people to go commit sins seems more morally culpable than saying that sinners, too, deserve to be treated with dignity.
They are both "major" or "large" sins.
Anyways, just because they are sins for us, it does not mean that we cannot advocate for equal rights for LGBTQ+ people because ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and equally is something that we are commanded to do too. Unfortunately, that part is usually forgotten.
No it isn't. Both drinking alcohol and gambling are considered sins that lead to hell and are worthy of execution as they destroy the foundations of the religion.
On the other hand, homosexuality is deemed the same level of sin as adultery or pre-marital sex. Again, that's execution.
Source: Quran 2:219 and 38:4447.
If he'd just played the match, most of the people tweeting in support probably wouldn't have even known about the rainbow numbers or gave a shit about them.
But now it's a separate cause, generating more noise around it than Idrissa was ever going to on the pitch. If his original intention was to just quietly skip the campaign, well it's backfired.
Literally, imagine logging on and seeing that hashtag having not seen the news of previous days ‘oh poor idrissa gueye, i hope he’s doing okay— ahhh just being a massive cunty homophobe I see’
Muslims don't have to be "assimilated" in Europe. They simply have to respect the fact that other people's lives and especially the law aren't defined by their sky daddy.
In my opinion, people don't have to forget and reject everything about their culture because they move to a different country. It's their decision.
What is fundamental is that when moving to a different country to be aware of that said countries laws and respect them fully. I don't have problems with Muslims practicing their religion. I've problems when they use it to police other people. Or even use it as an excuse to be an homophobe.
For the rest, they can keep their own food, clothing, teach their native language to their kids, or follow their own holidays. It's none of my business.
I thought assimilating meant learning the language, sharing similar values etc but also retaining your culture to the extent it is not incompatible with the local culture.
Probably unsurprised and, sadly, once again seeing something they have encountered throughout their lives. In Senegal gay sex is punishable with up to 5 years in prison, and lawmakers have pushed for tougher penalties; [https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/senegalese-lawmakers-draft-tougher-laws-against-lgbt-2021-12-13/](https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/senegalese-lawmakers-draft-tougher-laws-against-lgbt-2021-12-13/)
It seems the push for LGBTQ+ rights is seen as the result of a pernicious Western influence.
Not just in those countries, that sends a strong message to any active footballer that's not openly queer "A sizeable portion of fans would never accept you for who you are, coming out is a massive risk"
Could even make a case that a club's PR-team/owners would recommend that players shouldn't come out as that would both be a massive risk and they risk losing followers in those countries.
What did you expect?
I'd be surprised if more than 0.001% of muslims supported gay marriage.
Most don't even support the right of gay people to exist and be left in peace.

There are maybe 2 billion Muslims worldwide. 0.001% of that number is just 20,000. Would you really be surprised there are 20,000 Muslims worldwide that support gay marriage? I wouldn’t, 20,000 is a minuscule number. There are millions and millions that live in western nations.
funny thing is, i gave a blowjob to a muslim refugee who had a wife, 2 children, and told me I should pray more after... They're all closeted since they live in ultra-conservative societies where they can't interact with women so they've all had their fair share of homoeroticism.
And where in the muslim world can those people marry?
Hell where are they even safe from being picked up by the government and thrown in prison, tortured and/or executed?
Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, Tunisia, Lebanon, Albania, Bosnia, Burkina Faso, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Palestine (they have work to do in terms of male same sex relationships, same in Kuwait)
Edit: This was an answer to the second question.
there's plenty of western countries where gay marriage isn't legal yet.
>there's plenty of western countries where gay marriage isn't legal yet.
Sure, and every single one where it is legal is not majority muslim. Do you really think that's a coincidence?
the funniest thing about this is the appeal to the "basic human rights" of freedom of speech and freedom of religion, when those same people do not genuinely believe in those values at all. Pretty sure they wouldn't love it if you used *your* freedom of speech to tell them LGBTQ+ people should be able to live and love openly.
And what also needs to be said: Freedom *from* Religion > Freedom *of* Religion
damn typos
Poor guy, imagine being oppressed into doing something you don't want to do and not being accepted for who you are. Must feel horrible.
(/s just in case)
Just as well they didn't do #WeAreAllGueye as that would send mixed signals.
Anybody who uses religious beliefs to justify any form of discrimination is a cunt. I don't care if your 2000 year old book tells you. Today's book says you're a cunt.
> Anybody who uses religious beliefs to justify any form of discrimination is a cunt. I don't care if your 2000 year old book tells you. Today's book says you're a cunt.
I couldn't agree more. Well said.
That's the issue with Western civilization co-existing with civilizations that haven't evolved past a Medieval way of thinking. While we espouse secularism and the right of people to live by their own beliefs as long as they don't force them on others, other parts of the world still exist in the mindset that religion should dominate every aspect of society and that people should be subjugated to the hateful and regressive doctrines of ancient books written by people who thought the Earth was the center of the universe and that the sky was a firmament. It needs to be made clear that if you want to live in a Western country, you accept that your weird backwards ideology doesn't and never will apply to the society you choose to live in
Correct. I wish we were more like the French in the secularism. Religion is fine, as is veganism, having a foot fetish or supporting Man United. Just don't force it on the general population.
Wonder how many of these same people would react to a footballer refusing to show solidarity with Palestine.
This type of reaction is exactly the reason these kits and awareness campaigns still exist.
Just to be clear, both the condition of Palestine and the condition of LGBTQ+ rights are things that sorely need improvement for the sake of so many people. But these people shouldn’t get angry for one and outright support the discrimination for another.
Not to sound so downtrodden, but I wonder what the last generation that felt any genuine optimism was. I genuinely haven't felt any hope, joy or optimism at all in my adult life.
One thing I can be certain of is things like this situation don't help.
I'm a muslim as well, and all I can do is shake my head. Like ok, the religion doesn't allow it but that doesn't mean you need to be actively against it. Just keep your opinion and religion to yourself, no need to go out of your way to change how people are.
Understandable. They believe their god, who created everything and everyone and even time itself, says homosexuality is a sin. It’s the same with Christianism and Judaism. They LITERALLY believe it’s the word of god. How do you expect them to behave?
Just because most of our population (European - West in general) is in denial of their own religion, doesn’t mean they should be, too. If you subscribe to one of Abrahamic religions, this is the reality of your belief no matter how much you try to make it look like it belongs to the 21st century.
it saddens me and scares me like, come on. i just wanna be who i am, and im queer, why do people care so much if i wanna be a girl and love people regardless of gender, ill never truly understand
People's inability to mind their own fucking business is mind-boggling.
Don't like the idea of having sex with someone of the same gender? Great! Just don't do it and leave others in peace. Surely if Allah disapproves and is all-powerful he can punish supposed sinners himself.
regardless even a life of hellfire and torture just because i like wanna change gender doesnt sound so great either, never even understood why its supposed to be a sin
If only there was someone who could have sat all the people down who are tweeting about this and said 'You know, this will actually reinforce negative stereotypes about our religion and is deeply unhelpful', but alas, no, they've really gone for it.
It is not a stereotype if it’s true. I am an Ex Muslim and I can guarantee you that the all of religious muslims are extremely homophobic. Homophobic is an understatement even. They probably want them dead.
Humanity can't move forward until we, together, stop believing in fairy tales and giving those fairy tales power over our lives. As long as there's organized religion people praying to supernatural entities and pointing at some rules in ancient texts, we'll forever be stuck as a civilization. Sadly some people are happy still living in the dark ages.
It's also extra sad when it's "minorities" putting down other minorities. Yo I'm black, racism bad, can't judge me for the colour of my skin, fuck homosexuals though, they're bad. Bizarre mental gymnastics.
I swear man, when did freedom of religion stop meaning freedom to practice your faith without discrimination and start meaning freedom to discriminate?
There are a whole lot of Reddit users who are completely incapable of fathoming how other people could possibly fail to share their view of every topic.
Wtf are you talking about? Do you think people on Reddit think everyone is pro-lgbt rights? Obviously that’s not the case. The word is full of shit people sadly
This is not a "global opinion".
Of course most muslim countries discriminate homosexual people.
Is that ok? No.
Just because there a lot of loud people does not mean that they are right.
> Just because there a lot of loud people does not mean that they are **right.**
You have managed to infer something that was neither explicitly stated nor implied.
Exposure to differing views is important and healthy, and it's something that most Reddit users should experience more often.
Of course they are loud..... read the title mate.
I go along with your second point "Exposure to differing views is important and healthy". Not the rest because it is a very generic response where reddit can be exchanged with any kind of social media platform.
> " Exposure to differing views is important and healthy". Not the rest because it is a very generic response where reddit can be exchanged with any kind of social media platform.
You are absolutely correct! This would also apply to people who abstain from all forms of social media. We have a natural tendency to surround ourselves with people who have very similar ways of thinking, and often, this isn't to our benefit.
I am willing to bet that Idrissa along with the people making this a trend DO actually believe AND will act on it that "gay people do not deserve to exist"
True, but there is a warped western perspective of the world where we think that what we do or think or the way we act is how the whole world functions. Well guess what? Its not.
>There's always going to be some barbaric savages out there that need to be civilized by Europeans.
Damn colonialists, coming over here and stopping me systemically oppressing minorities.
Bigotry can't and shouldn't be tolerated. Many people used religion to justify slavery, doesn't make it right. Using religion to justify bigotry is weak, especially when you wanna cherry pick which part of the religion you listen to. We should be beyond this as a society, but alas.
Shit like this is why Europeans are becoming increasingly skeptical of muslim immigration in Europe and why the far right parties are making huge gains in France.
Let me play devil's advocate here.
Let's say I'm Muslim or raised Muslim but agnostic or atheist by choice. Let's say do support LGBTQ+ rights, but I want to be private about said support. Because I'd get oppressed by the rest of my community.
It'd make sense for me to refuse to wear such kits. Until I find out that the rest of the world will also oppress because of my choice.
What I'm saying here, Muslims who support LGBTQ face a dilemma and the rest of the world should be mindful of that not everyone want to be activist about their support.
Does the same thing have to be posted 50 times in 2 days? Comments are all the same, we get it, he refused to wear the shirt, his religion wont make him change his mind, 99.9% of other players wore the shirt anyway so idk why are people so focused on Gueye
Imagine an irrelevant player not playing an irrelevant game and it creating this much friction. Maybe hold the people actually relevant in how this world functions to account instead of some 70 iq football player
So if I choose to support or unsupport a cause or a group of people what does that make me?!
Yes I believe people ahould be doing whatever they want and express any opinion but it doesn't mean I have to agree or accept such action or opinion, and i should not be forced to do so. Otherwise my opinion or point of view is not then accepted or tolerated!
Depends on the cause or group of people as to what that would make you. If you aren't supporting having LGBTQ+ people treated like normal human beings then that makes you an awful person.
And if your opinion or point of view is to treat some group of people as subhuman scum, then I don't want that to be accepted or tolerated.
Homophobic? Imagine you didn't "support" Black or Asian people. We're talking about human rights here, not supporting people who like to knit or enjoy pineapple on their pizza.
Your religion doesn't give you the right to discriminate (in the West anyway).
No one is making you fuck another dude. Just stop being a cunt.
You don't get to have an "opinion" about my rights.

Can we get this trending instead guys, I believe in us
yeah lmao lets get that shit trending with Rainbow
The fact that this guy's name looks kind of like "gay" makes the entire story so much funnier
I think it's actually pronounced as "gay".
I think it’s pronounced “big juicy nuts in my butt”
Prob more of a reason why he's homophobic than religion. Been teased enough for his name
So why don't they get annoyed at the players for wearing shirts with Alcohol/Betting sponsors? or are they just hiding behind "religion" so they can be homophobic

Betting as well. Betting advertising in France clearly target the suburbs demographics, which is quite Muslim as well.
Because there's different degrees of opposition to gambling and alcohol than homosexuality. They don't kill gamblers or alcoholics but they kill gays in islamic countries.

Homosexuality is way, way worse a sin than gambling and drinking to muslims to be fair.

I found a bit weird pochettino didn't cover by just saying he was a bit injured
I mean he may have been a bit annoyed with him. I'd be annoyed if one of my players was refusing to play because he was too bigoted
I'm glad he didnt. Now the whole world knows he's a homophobic twat.
Christ. Is that what that is? Absolutely vile.
You would think he got killed or something and not just getting shit for being homophobic
Literally, imagine logging on and seeing that hashtag having not seen the news of previous days ‘oh poor idrissa gueye, i hope he’s doing okay— ahhh just being a massive cunty homophobe I see’
>Christ. the bible isnt very pro lgbqt+ either.
Imagine what the LGBT people living in these countries feel when they see majority acting like this 🤦♂️
That's nothing new to lgbt people living in those countries. Arab Twitter was cheering after the Orland shooting in a gay bar a few years ago.
This is why homonationalism is important. We need to absolutely ensure the muslims in Europe are assimilated.
>We need to absolutely ensure the muslims in Europe are assimilated. Good luck with that!
Heh, first ethno-religious diaspora?
Muslims don't have to be "assimilated" in Europe. They simply have to respect the fact that other people's lives and especially the law aren't defined by their sky daddy.
Why not assimilate? What’s wrong with assimilating?
In my opinion, people don't have to forget and reject everything about their culture because they move to a different country. It's their decision. What is fundamental is that when moving to a different country to be aware of that said countries laws and respect them fully. I don't have problems with Muslims practicing their religion. I thought assimilating meant learning the language, sharing similar values etc but also retaining your culture to the extent it is not incompatible with the local culture.

#weareallnotgueye
Average religion believer
Would've been *really* funny if they'd gone with #Weareallgueye
Is it that hard to see that he is inconsistent in his beliefs? Shocking, shameful and paints a picture of these people.
That's not a good PR campaign.
Gueye raised awareness about homophobia in the sport better than some rainbow-colored numbers could ever have.
Stone age men celebrating being stone age men.

But Gueye is naked in showers with other guys. That's a bit gay if you ask me. And i doubt his religion likes him to show his genitals to other men

> Just because there a lot of loud people does not mean that they are **right.** You have managed to infer something that was neither explicitly stated nor implied.
Most Western people agree that gay people should have the right to exist...
Yes, Gueye's decision not to wear a rainbow shirt clearly indicates that he believes gay people do not deserve to exist. A perfectly sound deduction.
That's literally the opinion of the Muslim fundamentalists...I wasn't talking about Gueye specifically, but he probably believes that as well.
I am willing to bet that Idrissa along with the people making this a trend DO actually believe AND will act on it that "gay people do not deserve to exist"

Seems like the rest of the world have a different view on this.
"rest of the world" wishful thinking
If the rest of the world is 13k people their opinion can be disregarded.
Spoiler alert, more than 5 billion people practice a religion in which homosexuality is explicitly forbidden
And we have religions in some countries who are restricted to not act on that.
Lmao you're joking right
How is this news to anyone? the reddit bubble is so huge.
Western bubble*
There are many non-western countries where homosexuality is legal.
True, but there is a warped western perspective of the world where we think that what we do or think or the way we act is how the whole world functions. Well guess what? Its not.
I'm not sure what you're trying to imply. I think most people in the west are aware that homosexuality is ilegal in most Muslim countries.

Wtf💀💀
Let me hate gay people in peace you pesky Europeans >:(
>There's always going to be some barbaric savages out there that need to be civilized by Europeans. Damn colonialists, coming over here and stopping me systemically oppressing minorities.
Someone wants to take my right to hating homosexuals away. I AM A SOVEREIGN CITIZEN
We have a long way to go...
Bigotry can't and shouldn't be tolerated. Many people used religion to justify slavery, doesn't make it right. Using religion to justify bigotry is weak, especially when you wanna cherry pick which part of the religion you listen to. We should be beyond this as a society, but alas.
Shit like this is why Europeans are becoming increasingly skeptical of muslim immigration in Europe and why the far right parties are making huge gains in France.
wth? why was this removed?
I wonder how many of these people have sought to immigrate to the west to enjoy our way of life
Enjoy the wealth, you mean. No one enjoys your "way of life" lmao
Doesn't like homosexuals but would happily take a child bride or 3 as per the book. Fucking sick
So in some muslim countries they can treat woman as shits and epople dont give a fuck but refusing to wear LGBT shirt is end of the world?
Totally expected. The world doesn’t consist of the liberal west.
This is r/soccer?
Imagine an irrelevant player not playing an irrelevant game and it creating this much friction. Maybe hold the people actually relevant in how this world functions to account instead of some 70 iq football player
terrible. i hope more people like jake daniels speak up so younger people are supported & don't feel alone.
Ah but religions definitely aren't a cancer to humanity. Not at all 💀

Sounds like that God was a pretty insecure cunt.
Interesting, where can I read this? What is the source?

This seems really unclear to me
IM NOT GAY IM A MUSLIM ITS IMPOSSIBLE STOP MAKING ME TALK ABOUT GAYS ON THE INTERNET
