One of the great legends of the club, 560 appearances, 9 Serie A titles and multiple Coppa Italias. A tremendous leader and captain, a great personality, and just a brilliant reader of the game, a great celebrator of blocks and clearances at key moments, and of course, a cynical bastard when there’s an attacking player who needs to be stopped with no regard for the laws of the game.
He will be missed.
He knows all the loopholes to make the perfect tactical fouls, almost Saul Goodman-esque. For all that people talk about the Saka shirt pull, [that handball vs Monaco](https://youtu.be/5BlVnKbmzoA) was an even crazier moment.
I’ve always absolutely hated him and his shenanigans every game I’ve seen him play, but I cannot deny the lad knew how to pull it off. It’s probably the same for opposing players when they play against Ibra.
In a weird way I’ll miss him, players like him add personality to the game, as much as you hate them at the given moment.
Speaking of crazy, he also got into Luis Suarez's head enough that he [bit Chiellini during a World Cup match](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tVdCQaH0vs). Didn't draw a card, but Suarez got banned for four months.
I'm English, mate. I was absolutely devastated that night, and for about a week after. But it's just a game when it comes down to it. Without the crushing lows, the highs wouldn't matter as much. The best team won on the day. Simple as that. That's why we love the game.
And after the career he's had, he deserves it IMO. I hope he looks at that medal every day, and smiles. No bitterness from me, just respect.
That's when I knew who'd win the penalties. The actual taking of the pens was just a formality at that point, Chiellini had already won on confidence alone
Honestly. I was so excited to see Vlahovic play live for the first time against Villarreal and instead was met by complete football terrorism apart from a few moments by Cuadrado and Dusan
Sure! It's a bit of a meme where a team, player or even a manager can play football so bad( like unappealing or ugly) that it's compared to being a form of terrorism. For example some fans find that at times Tuchel can play very bland, boring, defensive football, so they call him Tucheliban ( pun on the Taliban). I think the term originated from football Twitter.
Yeah knew it was a lock there. You want to say it was mind games but you look at his childlike grin in this moment and you go... maybe it wasn't mind games?? Maybe this sick weirdo lives this shit that much?
.. The way teams typically are stacked in the MLS he will be the best defender by far. Fucking Zlatan up top and some cunt from the local high school as centreback
Yeah, I don’t understand it either. Crazy the ref didn’t bother with VAR to review that, and to then use VAR at the very end of that match to call I think Mane (? I can’t recall if it was Mane or Henderson) offsides, taking away Liverpool’s goal and essential win..
Thankfully - his record in the Euro's balanced that. But yes, extremely unfortunate how poor Italy have been in the World Cup (+Qualifying) since 2010.
I'm a bit of a casual observer of the sport.
How is it possible that a team that is, by way of winning the title, the best in Europe, fails to even qualify for the World Cup.
I understand there is some roster change here and there but didn't they just win the Euro recently and then fail to qualify?
Chiesa was a big miss. On top of that Spinazzola was also missing. If either one of the two were on the field for North Macedonia, it would have been very different.
I understand we should have qualified earlier, there was a lot of complacency and bad luck, but either strengths were exactly what we were missing from the North Macedonia game.
Furthermore, they failed to qualify for the previous World Cup as well! You would think that a squad that won the Euros would have at least made the World Cup, seeing at least the formation of a championship winning side.
> Also probably one of the top defenders that never played in WC knockout phase
IIRC, Nesta never played a KO-match at the World Cup either. Always injured or some other issue.
God, that's awful. Never playing for your country in the knockout games of the WC would probably be my nightmare if I were a top player. At least he got the trophy in 2006
I will always remember Chiellini joking around with Jordi Alba who looked like he was about to cry before the penalty shootout at Euros. Great player and leader.
Euro quarterfinal against Belgium. Everyone I think was a little worried about an old chiellini against an in form lukaku (who always turns it up for Belgium). Chiellini was shut down and looked like he was having a blast , remembered the commentator mentioning it .
As a belgian who watched most of Lukaku's matches when he played in Italy, I really really hoped Chiellini would not be fit. Lukaku was at its peak there and yet Lukaku didn't pass Chiellini once. Chiellini was always toying with Lukaku. Every single time. The few times Lukaku passed him, Chiellini would fall dramatically on the ground and it would be a free kick for Juventus. Of all the defenders i've seen against Lukaku, Chiellini definitely was the one who knew how to handle him the best.
In the end, i was right to be worried of this smiling bastard. I both love him and hate him.
Chiellini was such a legend that whole Euros, [joking with KDB about blocking his shot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opSGYa79yck) and [hugging Witsel while trying to mark him](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/dd3QsxONHWw) are two other highlights of him I remember finding hilarious.
As an England fan I couldn't help but like him at the Euros. That shit eating grin as he got away with something haha.
Don't like Italy as a team (how can they be so consistently bad in the world cup lol) but he was a quality player with an amazing mentality from what I saw of him on the national stage.
> how can they be so consistently bad in the world cup lol
Theres only one country that won more world cup titles than Italy. Brazil 5, Germany and Italy 4.
Yes, we won 4 and bla bla bla,but man, waiting 12 years ( i really hope we will qualify for usa 26)is so messed up,even worse if we think that we are european champions.
We had some bad luck with Chiesa and Spinazzola but that doesnt justifies the missed WC,now I have nothing left except nations league and the final against Argentina
Seems a shame he never got his Champions League though. But I suppose it's normal for all athletes to not accomplish everything possible. He still has a legendary career.
Lady destiny decided that since Buffon never got his, it's only fair he didn't get one either. Now both of them can reminisce about the one that got away.
Yeah, most elite athletes will most likely never win it. There's only one trophy and it's extremely hard to win. At least, he retires with one major trophy.
I don't know if it's a controversial take or not but imo, silverware is irrelevant in appreciating greatness. One of the greatest defenders of his generation regardless. Elite at defending and shithousery. An absolute pain for opposing attackers.
Silverware definietly helps with adding to your legacy but I agree. IMO it doesn't drag down a players legacy if they didn't win a major trophy. Ibrahimovic, R9, Buffon, Chiellini, De Bruyne, Aguero and countless other players never or haven't as of yet won the Champions League, it doesn't make them any less legendary.
Started as a Left Back, ended up the best Italian CB of the past 15 years. An absolute incarnation of Italian and Juventus defensive culture, celebrating tackles and clearances like goals and inspiring his teams to win.

The most balanced backline I've ever seen. Barzagli was surgically precise, Chiellini with the crazy physicality and Bonucci with the vision and passing. Masterfully put together by Conte.
Should’ve ended with a Coppa Italia trophy but Golden Globe nominee Lautaro Martinez stopped it with his great performance.
One of the best Italian defenders in our history, purtroppo sei Juventino.
At first didn't realize why this made me so emotional but man... My childhood... Seeing all that familiar faces you grow up with one by one leaving the stage
Respect from an Inter supporter to arguably the best CB of his generation!
The only other three who are in the same tier are Ramos, Godin, and Thiago Silva of course… but Chiellini was the only one of those four who is left-footed
I’ll never forget when he went up against Tottenham and put Kane directly into his pocket. He and Thiago are the last of the true center backs. The game is going to miss him terribly.

Wdym no regards for the laws? Man knows the rulebook by heart and knows how to stop an attacker without getting red carded. Absolute bloody legend
He knows all the loopholes to make the perfect tactical fouls, almost Saul Goodman-esque. For all that people talk about the Saka shirt pull, [that handball vs Monaco](https://youtu.be/5BlVnKbmzoA) was an even crazier moment.
I had never seen this before. My guess is this is in front of the net so he took the handball penalty for a free kick to save a goal?
Apparently he only got a yellow
I’ve always absolutely hated him and his shenanigans every game I’ve seen him play, but I cannot deny the lad knew how to pull it off. It’s probably the same for opposing players when they play against Ibra. In a weird way I’ll miss him, players like him add personality to the game, as much as you hate them at the given moment.
Love to hate that bastard and I'm so fucking glad he's gone. I will miss him.
Speaking of crazy, he also got into Luis Suarez's head enough that he [bit Chiellini during a World Cup match](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tVdCQaH0vs). Didn't draw a card, but Suarez got banned for four months.
It's gonna be weird not seeing him in Serie A anymore, he will definitely be missed. A legend in every sense of the word.
Right? Im Fiorentina and I am gonna miss him even.
As you should, he played for us for a season.
What a beautiful sending off. He’s not even sad he’s just happy
Was so heartwarming watching him go off like that. Looks like a man who's satisfied and genuinely happy with his time at the club
Absolutely. No regrets in that smile, just gratitude.
Helps that he captained Italy to a trophy last summer, bittersweet otherwise
I'm English, mate. I was absolutely devastated that night, and for about a week after. But it's just a game when it comes down to it. Without the crushing lows, the highs wouldn't matter as much. Don't worry, your nation is stacked with only more scary prospects to come.
Respect from a Juve & Italy fan, mate. Hope England go on take gold sometime soon, in our lifetimes.
Reminds me a bit of JT's substitution
In the manner of substitution yes (26th minute for his shirt number), but John was quite emotional.
You can’t put Chiellini and sad in the same sentence
Did you see him during the coin toss before the penalty shootout vs Spain? Looked like a 10 year old who just found out he's going to Disneyland.
yeah and Jordi Alba was confused as hell.
The idea of Alba wondering "why the fuck is he so happy?" still cracks me up.
I think he's more just upset at being picked up like a child
That's when I knew who'd win the penalties. The actual taking of the pens was just a formality at that point, Chiellini had already won on confidence alone
Not just Jordi, I was watching it live and had no skin in the game since I'm Portuguese, and even I was hella confused.
Omg that was one of the best moments of the Euros
Right?! It's a great video
Why would he be sad? He doesn’t have to watch Juve football anymore
Honestly. I was so excited to see Vlahovic play live for the first time against Villarreal and instead was met by complete football terrorism apart from a few moments by Cuadrado and Dusan
> football terrorism Out of the loop on this. Would you mind elaborating a bit more?
The pun terrorist names are my favourite bit of the whole thing
Oh I see. Now the other Al-legri comment makes sense too, haha. Thanks for explaining!
LMAO, I've seen Arteta being called ''Dicteta''.
my guy called in an airstrike on his own position 😂
He’s doing what he can to get rid of the football terrorist
Catching his own strays
Not a stray bro had that scoped and laser-guided.
Al-legri football
I don't think i ever saw Chiellini sad, angry maybe, but not sad.
I remember seeing his face before the Euro final and he just looked so happy to be there. No nerves. Had a feeling right then that they'd win it.
Yeah knew it was a lock there. You want to say it was mind games but you look at his childlike grin in this moment and you go... maybe it wasn't mind games?? Maybe this sick weirdo lives this shit that much?
Got to say, hate him or love him, his smile is contagious
A true legend
And so far the only person to survive a shark attack on the pitch. Truly one of the great defenders.
Cracked me up!
He looks so happy.
Scenes when they take Lukaku off at 1 min if he leaves at the end of this season 💀
If Chelsea have the kickoff, it'll be his highest number of touches per minute of the season
Chelsea ahead of the curve, with the 5 interchange rule kick-off specialists will be the next big thing.
This is the send off Lingard was hoping for
So he'll play 1 minute for every leaked whatsapp conversation or..
Prime Chiellini was one of the best. End of a great career at Juve.
There is something very calming about an inter fan showing appreciation for a juve player when I’m sad
He deserves all the respect in the world. Man was a true professional and all around great person. He will be missed.
I already cried today stop it you beautiful bastard
Sad day for Juve, I hate when these legends retire
hes not retiring
He’s pretty much is tho, no offence to the la fans.
They got him for relatively cheap, so it might work out as a decent signing for them.
.. The way teams typically are stacked in the MLS he will be the best defender by far. Fucking Zlatan up top and some cunt from the local high school as centreback
Legend
Absolute legend and one of best defenders of the last decade. Also probably one of top defenders that never played in WC knockout phase
> Also probably one of top defenders that never played in WC knockout phase absolutely mind boggling stat
If van Dijk keeps getting injured before tournaments he'll join that list.
hopefully not 🤞
if everton get relegated he should be fine
Years later, I’m still baffled at no Pickford red card for that challenge
Yeah, I don’t understand it either. Crazy the ref didn’t bother with VAR to review that, and to then use VAR at the very end of that match to call I think Mane (? I can’t recall if it was Mane or Henderson) offsides, taking away Liverpool’s goal and essential win..

Let us never forget all the lives he saved during his career: https://youtu.be/CnpHT3gvXKQ
fantastic. what the internet is really for.
That was hilarious, thanks for enlightening me to the existence of this video
Brilliant!
I will always remember Chiellini joking around with Jordi Alba who looked like he was about to cry before the penalty shootout at Euros. Great player and leader.
Mentality legend , man was bullying lukaku looking like a kid at his birthday party .
I don't know about this one. Can I have context please
Euro quarterfinal against Belgium. Everyone I think was a little worried about an old chiellini against an in form lukaku (who always turns it up for Belgium). Chiellini was shut down and looked like he was having a blast , remembered the commentator mentioning it .
Chiellini always bodied large men. He was amazing at it. Ill miss him so much

Genuinely looks in these clips like this man is just programmed to take his man down and defend, nothing else.
That was absurd and hilarious
Like an uncle rough housing his awkward 12 year old nephew
As an England fan I couldn't help but like him at the Euros. That shit eating grin as he got away with something haha. Arrivederci legend!

Legend indeed! He will be missed as Juve captain and as a rival. Nothing but respect for him.
How I felt about Zanetti, even if he’s not Italian. Cheers you interista piece of shit (joking)
Barzagli , Bonucci and Chiellini and Buffon behind them my favorit defense line up
Plus Pirlo, Vidal, Marchisio and Pogba in the midfield... and Conte as coach. What a great team!
Feel so happy that he won a major tournament for Italy. He deserved it.
Seems a shame he never got his Champions League though. But I suppose it's normal for all athletes to not accomplish everything possible. He still has a legendary career.

well, not ALL athletes. Ronaldinho and Zidane, for example, each won pretty much every possible honor and title.
Ronaldinho won like everything possible by 27 or 26 didn't he? lol Feel like it was so fast for him.

17 years with the club
17 seasons at Juve.
legend for sure. so consistent for so many years. tough as nails and just a great defender overall
A defensive legend.
Buffon with the biggest smile at 0:57 🥲
Damn I'm old enough to remember this young guy with a full head of hair with a Viola shirt. What an incredible career.
An era ends. Arrivederci Chiellini!

Chiello is just always happy, lovely person, i wish him the best for the rest of his life
Have a good night king
Have a good Jon Snow
He’s not dying mate
Damn i didnt know
The Sultan
Why am I crying in the club rn
Grandissimo, a legend. Really enjoy seeing him smiling.
These things really hit hard, all the great legends getting near the end of their careers. Thank you Chiellini
Thanks for giving us It's the history of the Tottenham
Truly the greatest contribution he could have made honestly
He also assisted Dybala's goal that night. That comment was just the cherry on top.
It was Higuain ???
My bad, Chiellini passed it to Higuaín. Still impressive as it cut through Tottenham like a knife through butter.
A true legend for both Italy and Juve
He literally gave everything he had.
Well no not literally
Figuratively
You literally corrected him
Started as a Left Back, ended up the best Italian CB of the past 15 years. An absolute incarnation of Italian and Juventus defensive culture, celebrating tackles and clearances like goals and inspiring his teams to win.
Legend. I hate what he famously said about us, but what a fucking legend he is nonetheless. End of an era, this.
I don’t think he wanted to insult Tottenham he probably was just talking about lacking experience compared to Juve at that time and he was right
He's genuinely a good guy.. never meant nothing wrong towards you
Legend
As Real Madrid fan watching this with wet eyes , maybe it’s raining inside my house. Great player for sure , thanks for your character of warrior and uncompromising stand in every tackle. Young defs should watch his game as a role model
Dybala :'(
Yeah why was he given the armband when he’s also leaving?
Vice captain
Its his last home game as a Juve player, so probably just for old times sake
Juve prioritizes seniority for the captain armband, so currently after Chiellini he was the most senior since Bonucci left for his wonderful season at Milan.
If you listen to the audio the announcer says "he is honored with the captain's armband on his last night here." Makes sense.
I hope Marcelo’s farewell is like this as well. But what a farewell for Chiellini. Absolute legend this guy is!
Madrid's farewells are rarely great
It’s weird, for me you always had those 3 italian CBs at juventus for the basically the last decade (Chielini, Bonucci and Barzagli) and to see them all vanish with the time just feels wrong. This guy is an example for every footballer in the world and I hope De Ligt learned a lot from him and can apply that in the Dutch NT :-)
Would be perfect if Suarez waits for him at the sidelines and he bites Suarez lol
Final games of club legends, no matter what level are my favorite moments in football. No longer caring about what's going on on the pitch just a roar of appreciation.
LEGEND
This is so wholesome man, he looks so happy and everyone is giving him so much respect as he leaves the pitch!
One of the coolest fucking CBs of the past decade. Always absolute elite, the Bonucci-Chiellini pairing and even the Barzagli-Chiellini-Bonucci Trio always impressed me whenever i saw them, absolute massive defence.
The most balanced backline I've ever seen. Barzagli was surgically precise, Chiellini with the crazy physicality and Bonucci with the vision and passing. Masterfully put together by Conte.
> Masterfully put together by Conte Give some credit to Marotta, man
Should’ve ended with a Coppa Italia trophy but Golden Globe nominee Lautaro Martinez stopped it with his great performance. One of the best Italian defenders in our history, purtroppo sei Juventino.
Avenge us. Win the Scudetto!
At first didn't realize why this made me so emotional but man... My childhood... Seeing all that familiar faces you grow up with one by one leaving the stage
Football Legend. All the respect for him!
O capitano, mio capitano
GRAZIE SQUIDINI
Football is coming to an end so so so quick 😟
Imagine the ref gave him yellow for time wasting. That would be the most pointless yellow card
Even his opponents are giving him a warm sending off. Love seeing stuff like that.
Respect from an Inter supporter to arguably the best CB of his generation! The only other three who are in the same tier are Ramos, Godin, and Thiago Silva of course… but Chiellini was the only one of those four who is left-footed
Even better, Giorgione has two left feet
I’ll never forget when he went up against Tottenham and put Kane directly into his pocket. He and Thiago are the last of the true center backs. The game is going to miss him terribly.
Call me biased or delusional, but in my opinion he is the greatest defender of all time in terms of pure defending ability. Grazie King Kong
let him play the full game? wtf lol
It's for symbolism, subbed off in the 17th minute for the 17 years at Juve
If I was a footballer I'd take number 89.
Legend. Nothing to regret.
End of an era
Suarez in tears and Noble as well, Chiellini all smiles walking off the pitch. This man is ready to kick his feet up and enjoy a cocktail at 11am.
Legend! Can’t wait to see him play for my LAFC soon!
How can you not be romantic about football
