Might not be a popular opinion but I don't think City improve massively with Haaland. Hes obviously an incredible player but City simply can't get much better that they currently are. Any improvement is minor at this point. On top of that there's a risk with any signing. Its a new country a new league and a new team and his injury record isn't great. Ofc id love him at my club, every club would love to have him, im just way more sceptical now on big signings than I was before.

QuerpassToni

He'll boost their audience numbers. By 1. So that's a plus. By 1.

ElevatorSecrets

City miss a lot of chances. Of course he will improve them. Jesus/Sterling have been memed for years for missing sitters

CritChanceZero

I don’t agree with the idea he doesn’t improve them but Sterling offers so much more in the build up and out wide that you can’t just take him out of the team and say Haaland finishes the chances he misses so it’s better.

BillehBear

Raz plays better with a striker next to him It's no surprise his form dips when Aguero stopped getting regular minutes but he always shows up for England next to Kane I'm p confident Haaland coming (and Alvarez) will get the best out of Sterling

datcnashguy

Why do City fans get so defensive when other people say that Haaland will be their highest paid player by far. You‘ll get a guy who will break records if he stays healthy so enjoy. But please stop with all that bullshit that he will get the same as KDB or that their is more to City’s wage structure than official. You‘re one of 3 clubs who was able to afford him (PSG/Newcastle). He wanted 600k a week without signing bonus. He‘s seeing what Mbappe will get. So no he won‘t play for 350k

pgecco70

Think they get pissed off because when the likes of Man Utd spend big on fees and wages no one bats an eyelid but when suddenly flex there muscles is like ground zero .

BillehBear

Yes lets ignore credible sources saying he's not being paid more than KDB so we can have this dumb narrative

ser_antonii

According to top tier journalists reporting on the deal, it’s been said specifically that Haaland will not be paid more than Kevin De Bruyne and expect a similar wage to him. Just because you want City to pay Haaland 600k a week doesn’t mean that’s the reality

doriscissorsfind441

Are we just going to ignore what Romano is reporting?

Dayandnight95

All these good CB's in the Bundesliga seem to play in a back 3, making them risky signings. So annoying.

ser_antonii

Haaland to City makes sense. A lot of weird takes lately now that it’s been reported (copium maybe, idk) but he has a connection to the club, is expensive but still reasonable considering his age and quality, and fills a position that City have been trying to fill

Lyrical_Forklift

> but he has a connection to the club Don't think he'd be signing to play alongside Shaun Goater to be fair. It's obviously a very exciting signing for City though- if you can't get pumped about that then what's the fucking point in watching football. I do think there are legitimate concerns over whether he'll fit in stylistically and his injury issues but time will tell.

ser_antonii

He will of course not be the answer to everything and won’t magically win us a quadruple but still a great signing that makes sense, and there’s a lot to be excited for as you said.

tiorzol

Looking like Olise is going to sign a contract extension for another year that also increases a buy out clause above £50m. Such a great player, can't wait to see him kick on next season. [Lovely bit of skill here v Watford.](https://twitter.com/cpfcisaac/status/1523745557436858368?t=ytKE_fnfqajtwawOZgcZAQ&s=19)

doriscissorsfind441

This really is the dumbest contract extension ever for him. According to Ornstein, he isn't getting a pay bump, just a one year extension and he increases his buy out clause. That's terrible for him. Its great for Palace obviously, but it makes absolutely no sense for him. Its in his interest to get paid more or be able to leave easier. This way, he gets paid the same and makes leaving much harder.

tiorzol

He just loves playing here I guess. I don't think he'll be here for too long if I'm honest but if a fifty mil bid comes it's much better than a 35 mil for us.

doriscissorsfind441

> I'm honest but if a fifty mil bid comes it's much better than a 35 mil for us. No kidding huh. 🤣

tiorzol

I mean he must like it here to be willing to do it, there's no real other upside for him as far as I can see

CoolstorySteve

He’s already under contract until 2026. Does that one year extension affect what his current wage will become? If not I don’t really see the point in him tying himself down for another year

tiorzol

I assume there will be a salary bump but nothing is confirmed yet.

Rava23

I like to think that Haaland is going to the club is dad played for when he was a kid and that he wants to be there and not just because of the money. And it might be true (to some extent) since also Real Madrid, PSG, United or any other top club would have gave him money.

kdball

[Romano said the same. Real Madrid offered him a similar package, Barcelona as well. But he chose City.](https://v.redd.it/b0qp2h3iwky81)

Good_Kev_M-A-N_City

His dad captained the club and is a popular figure amongst the top brass. Haaland grew up supporting City for their successful years in the 2010's. Theres a gaping hole at striker for one of the best teams in the world alongside arguably the best creators in a single side under one of the best manager there is The Premier League is the most popular league in the world Has a better chance in creating a legacy at City than he would Madrid. Won't be held hostage a few years down the line if he wants a new challenge. I could go on. There's really no better argument as to why he should've chosen Madrid. Only answer I ever got was essentially 'eritage

Rava23

Its cool to play for Madrid and the climate is much better than England. Also more Erasmus girls in Madrid than in Manchester afaik. Footballing wise I disagree just to this: *Has a better chance in creating a legacy at City than he would Madrid* and even at Real he wouldn't be held hostage imo. But yeah, the other stuff is on point

transtifa

What are Erasmus girls?

gianmk

chicks going abroad to study.

transtifa

You don’t need to put it like that

Rava23

Girls on Erasmus. Just realized that maybe non-Europeans don't know what Erasmus is. Its a university students program that allows them to take semesters/years around Europe. And everyone tries to go to Spain usually.

ComeOnPelicanFly

No Erasmus in the UK anymore either. I think maybe everyone wanting to go to Spain might be an Italian thing because in Ireland they want to go all over Europe

Rava23

I know of a couple of lads that are heading to London on Erasmus next year and a girl that was in Dublin until March. Maybe it has just changed name? I'm not in University so I don't know

ComeOnPelicanFly

Apparently they have a new one called the Turing scheme? I'm not in university either so I don't know the ins and outs. Dublin is in Ireland so they still have Erasmus.

Rava23

Yeah, true, my mistake on Dublin

tiorzol

Is he a good study buddy?

transtifa

Right I see thank you. I remember it from Uni now it’s just been a while so I’d forgotten about it lol

DomingosDeBenfica

There's been another picture circulating social media of the porto stabbed and fucking christ, that's not 1 stabbing that was 3 or 4 it was so vicious. Quality father-son activity to be honest to the lads, nothing like a family stabbing to bond over.

TheBurningStarIV

When I got stabbed there was a video going round of it. I got done in 4 or 5 times and it’s proper visceral to watch. I can’t imagine what the video you’re talking about is like

AnnieIWillKnow

Casual "when I got stabbed" here...

LuisFilipeVieira

Yup, just seen it today. His girlfriend (?) standing next to his lifeless corpse. Grim.

shivam4321

Now that haaland to city is confirmed , There is good chance harry kane will end his career without any major trophy.

hbb893

Would that make him the best player ever to not win even a cup?

ser_antonii

Kane could go somewhere else

Icy-Guide7976

Most likely United if anything. even then there’s a high chance he won’t win a trophy there either.

shivam4321

what other club would pay insane fee levy demands

Rava23

For a player that isn't as good as English point him out to be

narutosama77

Agreed

ser_antonii

PSG, Real, United Don’t mean he will go to them but they could afford him easily

narutosama77

PSG Real and not coming for him.

Mr_XemiReR

There is absolutely 0% chance that we go for Kane.

NegativeHeli

I doubt Spurs will let him go anywhere. His contract runs until 2024

NegativeHeli

What was your club's worst ever business? It can be anything from signing a player who flopped, to letting a good player leave for little to no money.

Icy-Guide7976

So many to choose from: Griezmann, coutinho, dembele, quaresma, putting Neymar’s release clause so low, the Arthur-pjanic swap deal, the eto’o Zlatan swap, not playing Thiago enough and letting his release clause drop, arda turan.

Lyrical_Forklift

Andy Carroll is up there but I'm going to say Markovic. Never have I seen a player at Liverpool with such little fight in him.

LuisFilipeVieira

Everton Cebolinha for €20M

RickThiCisbih

Hazard by far. In terms of impact though, I'd argue that selling Makelele to sign Beckham was worse.

Rava23

Lately Gabigol for like 30 millions

TheUltimateScotsman

Joao mario is close

Rava23

Yeah, same summer too right? The only good thing about Joao Mario is his first touch and he fooled people into believing he was Portugal NT and Inter material for a couple of years

TheUltimateScotsman

The summer which caused mancini to quit and almost cost us ausilio. Thankfully suning learned their lesson. And made whole new mistakes

Rava23

If I think that there was a period when Ausilio was considered a complete fool... he brought us Brozo, Perisic, Skriniar, Icardi... that were all but affirmed players when he bought them

LuisFilipeVieira

There's only one manager that can have him playing at an high level, Jorge Jesus. Also he was good for yhe National Team

Harrry-Otter

The whole Pogba fiasco.

CanLlorenteCarForMe

Vitolo

BruiserBroly

Not going to mention Michael Owen again but signing Marcelino for £5m. That was a lot of money in 1999 and he spent his entire time here injured and many in the club had doubts whether or not he was actually injured most of the time. Also, pretty much everyone Dennis Wise signed for the club during his disastrous stint as DoF. Letting Ivan Toney go for under a million is up there too.

kdball

Mendy. 52 million.

VeryBadflower

Andy Carroll

Xey2510

Nico Schulz Buying a player who can only run and cross and is just bad in possession for a coach like Favre who will instruct the team to never cross and play a heavy possession style. That signing makes absolutely 0 sense in hindsight and also cost 25M. He is just in no way made for a team dominating possession.

LordMangudai

Schürrle for 30m was pretty bad as well

NegativeHeli

How much did he cost?

Xey2510

Editet in cuz i forgot about it. Keep in mind that Dortmunds transfer record isn't much higher so it is even worse.

[deleted]

MartinPerrott

Can't wait for haalands opening game only to be taken out for 6 months by adarabioyo

Kanedauke

Haaland for £51m is mental. Walker cost that 5 years ago. Keita cost more than that.

beautifoolstupid

What about salary, sign-on fees, bonuses, etc ?

Kanedauke

Can you tell me that for every other transfer?

beautifoolstupid

No. But I have seen people scream "but wages??" every time there's a free transfer.

kjm911

Haaland will cost more that Keita ffs. Where are are you pulling these numbers from

Kanedauke

His transfer fee is less. Keita was £52m

kjm911

Where are you getting £51m from? I can tell you now City will be paying at least double that in upfront payments

Good_Kev_M-A-N_City

His release clause was £55M or there about, turned out the original RC was pretty inflated.

Kanedauke

Well you’re wrong. The buy out is €60m euros = £51m

kjm911

Buy out is €75m. Then they’ll be paying at least another €50m Ito his agents and father.

Kanedauke

https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1523704222914859008?s=21&t=O6CELAvScPyZ8sZOkBzA2w

kjm911

They are paying way more than €60m and you’re deluded if you think otherwise

BendubzGaming

And Walker would have cost more if he hadn't already been sharing playtime with Trippier too

Kanedauke

He was the best right back in the league. £50m for a full back was pretty crazy at that time.

BendubzGaming

It's important to consider the context though. That is still the only sale we've made to a fellow Big 6 member since that became a thing (last one before it was I think Keane to Liverpool when it was still a Big 4). And we only felt comfortable letting him leave because his replacement that at most was a minor downgrade was already at the club. If Trippier isn't already with us, that fee is probably a lot higher.

[deleted]

Nuri__Sahin

Don't forget gifts on the side, and very much off the books. I expect someone to make out all teams do this. ☕️

ser_antonii

Not getting paid more than De Bruyne

Rava23

Yes, he prolly will

ser_antonii

Fabrizio Romano already stated that Haaland will not be paid more than De Bruyne. Can link you that if you want.

Rava23

Cool, no worries

kdball

He will be the 3rd or 4th highest paid player in the premier league. At the age of 21. 400000/week is more than enough.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kdball

The world won't stop moving if you don't believe in it. You can believe whatever you want. The earth is flat. The lizards control the government. Whatever. There are reliable journalists who says it is below 375 base, and 400 with bonuses, and our tier 1s have confirmed it as well, and that's enough for me. I don't think you understand how much of a big deal 400k is for a 21 year old. Four hundred thousand a week. Foden is 21 as well, and earns 30k a week, for some context

Harrry-Otter

Probably why his team insisted on a buy-out in his contract.

Kanedauke

His whole career has been carefully thought out so far. Join a dominant team in a small league that also plays in Europe to get him noticed. Salzburg. Join a top league that’s good for attackers (great for his confidence), a team known for developing young talents. Dortmund. He’s been smart so far. More young players should think like this, about their development.

Harrry-Otter

Any now sign for a club competing for the big trophies with a top manager. I still can’t help but see him spending the best years of his career in white, but he obviously does have a very good team of advisors around him.

Kanedauke

It probably helps that his dad was a footballer

kdball

We signed Benjamin Mendy for 52 million. 5 years ago.

msf97

Goes without saying that it will come out to far more than that. I cant even trust Citys wage bill tbh

Kanedauke

I’ve seen he’s on £400k, probably will have bonuses on top of that but still a fair wage considering he’s the best young striker in the world. Really this should have been a £150m transfer fee for a player of his quality

kdball

> [James Ducker] >> Haaland's wages of around £400,000 a week, ***including bonuses***, will place him alongside City's highest earners. There had been reports that Haaland stood to earn in excess as much as £650,000 a week but the club had no intention of obliterating their wage structure.

Kanedauke

Pretty much the same as KDB and Grealish then. Seems reasonable

kdball

Just slightly more than grealish. Your ex starboy has mugged us off.

Kanedauke

He got your number 10 and nearly 400k a week. Pep must really love him

kdball

I've got a alot of hope in him. I don't think pep would've paid 100 million for him if he didn't believe he was world class.

Kanedauke

Yeah he definitely has some kind of plan for him. Maybe it will become clear next season

kdball

If you claim conspiracy at everything, nothing will make sense. Our tier 1 reporters all have said that the base salary is below 375k and with added bonuses it won't cross 400k. KDB, if he earns all the bonuses, gets about 500k, for some context.

msf97

Will definitely be absurd fees involved, otherwise Klopp wouldn’t have ruled out our involvement in an interviews with that exact reason

kdball

There is agent and father's fess. I'd assume around 40 million. Haaland couldn't have gotten a better club to sign for even if he tried. Real Madrid already have stars in front. Your attack is stacked as well . At City he would be *THE* focal point. Why would he not choose us?

msf97

I’m not saying he shouldn’t have, but it’s definitely more than 51m plus 375k base wage.

kdball

Oh, hundred percent. Around 100 million, if we count the agent and father fees.

glockiie

I wonder where they get their numbers from

kdball

Like I said, if you claim conspiracy nothing will make sense. 400k a week is a lot of money for a guy his age. He will be among top 5 earners in the Premier League. What do you want us to pay him? 1 million?

thediabolicalkid

Where did this number come from?

IAmHereInMyMold

Ings. Coutinho. Gerrard. Will be interesting to see the r/soccer narrative if Liverpool pad their GD tonight lol.

Kanedauke

Last time we lost them 1-0 after a dodgy Salah pen. Gerrard will want to win tonight.

kdball

> Steven Gerrard on the 7-2 last season: >>“I wouldn’t mind that outcome again tomorrow!” [Source](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldTalk/status/1523674801113804801) Also it's funny to see liverpool fans absolutely shredding him to bits in the replies and quotes, haha.

Kanedauke

> We don’t have Adrian anymore for that to happen 😭

Ofermann

How do they still blame their keeper for shipping seven 😭

Sudden-Breakfast2197

The only valid explanation I’ve heard is that the Liverpool players were so insecure with Adrian in goal that they kept trying to block the shots which led to some horrible deflections

Kanedauke

It’s the ultimate cope 😂 they were all shocking that night. Gomez got subbed off lol

Ofermann

Van Dyke disaster class too. Grealish embarrassed him and Trent.

Kanedauke

That vid of Grealish megging VVD 😂

curtisjones-daddy

Did all start with Adrian being a bum, but yeah was a horror show from everyone but Salah

Kanedauke

Even Klopp was off it. Pretty sure he subbed Keita off for Minamino

curtisjones-daddy

Even worse after we were all giving it the big un after United had just lost 6-1. One of the most peculiar days in premier league history.

AMeanOldDuck

Something I've noticed about American people speaking English is the propensity to use the future tense when speaking about the past. Why is that? For example someone wrote "We may not win nations league or WCQ against Mexico without him". That's a sentence written in future tense, but they're talking about two things that have already happened. Is there a reason for this? It's such an easy thing to get right.

ComeOnPelicanFly

Are you sure that's Americans with English as their first language? Because that's just wrong.

AMeanOldDuck

It was someone referring to the US team as "we", so I assume so. I've seen it with US pundits as well, usually when trying to make some big statement.

knickgooner10

It’s to do with time zones. They’re a couple hours behind us so they have to talk into the future.

AMeanOldDuck

Thanks for clearing that up mate

beautifoolstupid

dude! 😂

NeoIsJohnWick

So how many leagues in total for Papa Guardiola if he wins this season? I remember him having 3 at Bayern, 3 at Barca ? and now 4 for City if they win?

kdball

10 league titles in ~~14~~ 13* seasons. Edit: *

Orcnick

Can we all agree that any English team that won the league and the Champions league/European Cup in the same season is better than this City team? For all there football and stats in the end Trophies matter. This City team will never compare to the likes of United, Liverpool, Forest teams of the past, until they have won the league and champions league. People saying there the best team ever is ridiculous.

msf97

The 17/18 team has rarely been matched. Reflects in the points total.

indiblue825

>The 17/18 team has rarely been matched. Reflects in the points total. Controversial opinion time. Once you have enough points to win the league, getting more points isn't all that special. For me there's no difference between winning the league with 86 points vs winning it with 100. More special achievements in my eyes are winning the league + CL, conceding as few goals as possible, not losing a game in 38, and banging in 100+ goals.

_stone_age

It's a sign of consistency. Even then, City didn't just get 100 points. They won the most games ever, they conceded lesser goals which was enough to secure the most GD ever. City even scored the most goals ever that season, 100+ goals which you said you considered impressive. It's an elite team.

indiblue825

I never said scoring 106 goals wasn't impressive or that you were not a great team that season. I just don't think it made a difference whether you won with 100 pts or 82.

FloppedYaYa

Why not though? Surely if you win it with 82 that just means weaker competition

hbb893

If you only needed 82 but ended up winning it with 100 your competition wasn't any harder.

_stone_age

Well fair enough that's your opinion. Personally like I said it's a sign of consistency and it's utter domination.

kdball

That centurion side broke a shit ton of records. [For example](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/centurions-all-of-manchester-citys-remarkable-premier-league/1b87nrik3o3rv1hgtsxm7va14c).

indiblue825

No doubt they were great and kudos deserved on those, I was only speaking about the 100 points thing. Would have been the same in my eyes if you'd won with 82 points. Love the way you blew teams apart that season. That we only lost to you 1-0 both times is really something. Again, it's completely subjective and only my opinion.

kdball

There has to be a difference between Leicester winning the league with 81 points and teams like City and Liverpool winning it by 100 & 99 points. But again, like you said, it's all subjective.

msf97

>Conceding as few goals as possible You’d much rather have a better goal difference and win more games. City did both

indiblue825

Not sure why everyone has trouble understanding it's an opinion, I even said so. I prefer conceding fewer goals, it's just how I enjoy the game. Assuming both are title winners, give me a 72/15 season over 106/27 any day.

QuerpassToni

> Can we all agree No. Never.

Lyrical_Forklift

I think the recent City sides are better than the 2007 United side but obviously less successful. I know which one I'd prefer to be.

Sudden-Breakfast2197

The 2007 united team was one of the best teams in history

kdball

When did Liverpool or Forest win the League and the champions league in the same season? Also, Arsenal's invincibles are among the best ever premier teams, yet they have never won the Champions league in their entire history.

Lyrical_Forklift

> Arsenal's invincibles are among the best ever premier teams I don't think they are at all. I think there have been better Arsenal sides and I think the recent City sides are far stronger. What they achieved is incredible and unique but they don't compare quality wise imo.

BonnieDoomsday

Quality wise how do they don't compare they all won one trophy in a season if city wins this pl and prime Wenger is as good as pep

Lyrical_Forklift

Leicester won the title too. Does this mean they're as good a team as this current City side? Of course not. Would they be just as successful? Absolutely.

BonnieDoomsday

Present iverpool and citeh are on the same ballpark quality wise with the invincibles Henry in fact would be the best player on all 3 teams Bergkamp was a ballondor runner up previous years their defence of Campbell and Adam is also above citys

Lyrical_Forklift

Michael Owen won Ballon D'or- I wouldn't use that as a yardstick to judge players. It was also Adams, not Adam. I'd agree with the Henry call though- still the best player I've seen in the league.

BonnieDoomsday

A. Cole was better than both alternatives in city and pool Bergkamp is better than firmino city's false 9 alternative and Micheal Owen. Viera is also in a class of his own. Then you have pple like Eduardo Kanu even Fabregas on the bench

Lyrical_Forklift

Bergkamp scored four goals all season. Firmino, who's about 5th choice currently, has more than that. Kanu scored 1 goal all season. Fabregas didn't play at all in the league that season. Eduardo didn't join Arsenal until a couple of seasons after the Invincibles season.

kdball

They are easily the top 5 imo. But that's the issue with comparing teams across decades. Teams of today (Liverpool & City) are much stronger than a team who played just 20 years ago. Even more funny when people claim that this City or Liverpool side won't be able to beat old infamous sides. Like United's 98/99 "treble" team.

Offaplain

Definitely better sides but no one's has managed it again so anyone who downplays the impressiveness of it is an idiot.

Lyrical_Forklift

Agree completely. It was a very special achievement.

msf97

76/77 and 83/84 for us.

kdball

Champions league, but fair enough. Never said this team is the best ever. This city team isn't even the best city team in the last decade.

DinJarring141

Wouldn't Glazers love selling us given they never paid a lot of money for us?

kdball

Why would they sell their cash cow?

From-UoM

They make a lot of money just by owning you right now while paying of the loans So unless someone can offset that, they won't sell

Endgame2648

Ronaldo,Varane and Sancho are way too good of summer transfers to have your worst season in history. Ole may have done better than Rangnick I suppose

BigManMane

Sancho is better under Rangnick

GTACOD

Nah, they were shit under him too. The problem as far as I can tell is that for all he's an incredile goal scorer Ronaldo doesn't really fit in any team that isn't going to dominate most games and United doesn't have the players to do that.

Theringwanderer1

Why are the Telegraph reporting the Haaland deal as costing the initial transfer fee plus the cost of wages over his entire 5 year contract all of a sudden? When have journalists ever done that before?

Orcnick

Mate when it's United they even add on all the bonuses which we will never achieve. Like Martials winning the champions league bonus. Every United price is inflated.

usually_a_knobhead

Didn't they also report something like a bonus if Martial wins the balon d'or. Which, if true, was nothing but a positive thing for United. If he doesn't win it, who cares. If he does, he *probably* had a good enough season that United wouldn't care about paying a bit extra.

kjm911

It’s not just United, in general transfer fees are always reported as the maximum or final price. So many payments now are based o things like games played, whether s team qualifies for champions league, winning trophies etc

Idislikemyroommate

Happening more and more now. Same as wages being reported with all their bonuses etc added on.
