This goes to show every moment matters, never stop pushing
English Commentator at the time
"Not like they really needed that goal'
Which is hilarious because my CBS commentator in the U.S said this could end up being the most important moment of Real's CL run should they mount a totally improbable comeback.
the Serie A rule: every time you waste a clear cut opportunity you're about to get punished
Isn't that just a common saying in football in general? Not just Serie A.
French commentators said it might be a sign, that the game is not over, I guess they were right ^^
If it was BT sport the commentator was Steve McManaman, who scored in a Champions League final for Madrid - which makes it even funnier
We need that video.
Did he really say that??
It was on BT so wouldn't surprise me
Yes. They also said city was going to the final at one point.
*subs De Bruyne and mahrez*
KdB was pretty useless today and it was Gundogans build up play that lead to the City goal. It was the right move from Pep to boot him off.
KdB was knackered. I am not sure what was the reason for it. I know hes been immense this whole last month. I think he was just mentally exhausted perhaps.
Too many games played in a calendar year, klopp said it, KdB confirms it.
De Bruyne->Ilkay, understandable. Mahrez->Fernandinho, ridiculous.
You are right. This is Reddit results based analysis at its finest.
Post hoc ergo propter hoc
\*pushes glasses up further on nose\*
Make sense considering that they want to defend the lead, no?
yeah and if they didn't they would be mocking him for having pushed too hard when he should have defended.
Honestly that was the right move. If he doesn't sub on Fernandinho and conceded two he gets absolutely rinsed for that decision.
Subbing in Fernandinho for Mahrez was the right decision. No one thought we would bang in 3 goals in 5 minutes.
The loss hurts, but I still stand by Pep's decision. You can't predict the future.
>No one thought we would bang in 3 goals in 5 minutes.
The whole planet knows real madrid would bang in 3 goals in 5 minutes.
Real's plot armour is just too strong.
> No one thought we would bang in 3 goals in 5 minutes.
Yeah surely no one thought that. Like people never learn.
It's not like RM did it a couple of times before in this same CL.. one of those subs was enough, two was just too much imo
Ilkay was so much better than De Bruyne today, who seemed surprisingly off. That was definitely a good call
Need their best fit for the oil money derby against Newcastle obviously
Scenes when they lose 1 0
Just look at Courtois shouting at Mendy in celebration.
This doesn't look like a player who's down by two goals with 5 minutes left.
Love that. In the Spanish TV you could hear it pretty clear, that was a flex point
Thomas Müller scores the opening goal of 2012 UCL final in 83rd minute.
Jupp Heynckes subs Müller off 87th min 4 mins later for Van Buyten to stack his defense.
Drogba scores one minute later and Bayern looked completely different in ET.
Bayern lose on penalties.
Jupp Heynckes instills a killer instinct in his squad the next year in which they never relent any score line and continue attack.
Bayern wins first German treble.
I like to think the Champions league winners since that moment have all taken a direct attacking approach with outstanding offensive juggernauts. Always forward never back.
Look at the teams that knocked out Pep Guardiola after that. Bayern were slow and played possession and lost in Knock-outs after being in 3 UCL finals out of the 4 years prior to Peps arrival at Bayern.
Always attack. More goals wins.
"Whichever team scores more goals usually wins." - Michael Owen
imagine the pause after "more goals..." and smug look buxton would have dropping that knowledge
If we win, Mendy will be the hero right up there with Rodry.
This save when everything was lost was pure heart.
Dont forget tibo
Can’t even blame him for that goal. Mahrez hit it so well. Real in the champions league is a delight to watch
He thought mahrez was going to pass it was unpredictable that he shot there you can see tibos feet gk to the opposite side of the shot in the replay
It was a split second decision, if he went big and got megged, he'd get memed.
He went low and Mahrez hit it high. It's not the same as a one on one, just unlucky.
For sure. But he's always the MVP on defense ;)
Aged like wine
I dont even like Madrid but gotta give credit where it's due
No one would have blamed him if it entered bc it seemed beyond possible
uh looks like you did it
Well this was outrageous in hindsight
All of Courtouis' saves are also ridiculous in hindsight. Man is putting up the performance of a lifetime and isn't even the most impressive player on the pitch. What a game.
Tbf he gambled on the City goaland got burned for it, which put Real in th hole to start with.
His view was blocked by the defender, otherwise he may have had it, he was close enough.
Tbh the fact his view was blocked would be the main reason to stick to the near post. With the defender running in, a shot to the far post would have been pretty well covered.
when do keepers ever just stick on the near post? The all near post goals are saveable idea is a myth anyway
He was by far the most impactful player on the pitch imo. Several unbelievable, world class saves, often so subtle that no one in the stadium seemed to notice. City would've won 4 0 with a lesser keeper in goal.
he completely flopped this though.
French pundit "This is a sign for Madrid"
The commentator on the US stream said something like “That is the save of the Champions League tournament, if Real Madrid somehow find a way back.”
Yeah, thought to myself, “yeah ok but they won’t, so good effort on the block but won’t matter either way” LOL
I watched this in real time and was like “meh who cares” and I realize how dumb that was now lmao
Courtouis had some MF diamond hands like waaaaat
Diamond toes too. Him pushing Grealish's next attempt just wide with that out stretched leg was just as clutch.
They thought it didnt matter
Shades of Dembele v Liverpool
Narrator: It apparently did...
I've made a huge mistake...
Not if he has done it since the 2000s and has been in a coma for the last 10 years
Imagine waking up to the current United team ... 😫
I do that everyday mate 😞
I honestly was thinking it didn’t matter and now it’s 3-1 Madrid
Pitted, so pitted.
Next say how funny it would be if I won the lottery
It would be so funny if I won the lottery

What the fuck...

both goals were in by the time he posted before edit... just scroll over his post to see the time, in reality 2 goals were in for 2 minutes already..
maybe not in his stream
This aged well
We found Zidane Account bois
Real Madrid after Grealish chance: and I took that personally
Please make a comment about it being funny if real scored 3 more

80m luxury sub fucked up
This man is a time traveler
Dude tell my future too, please.
It definitely is now
Potentially game winning now. That’s crazy
if we go through this is going to be an all time
iconic cl play
Oof that's gonna sting at 2-1
He posted this after the 2-1
How about 3-1
Both sides have missed some timely chances today
[Grillitsch, Grillitsch, Grillitsch!](https://www.transfermarkt.de/florian-grillitsch/profil/spieler/195736)
The balls on Camavinga to play that pass
Yeah no one's talking about that. Realistically the only way he could've gone and yet the trust in the last man to pass backwards...mad composure
Man saved the tie.
Why are people giving Grealish shit as if he didn't do everything right there ?
If anything that’s 100% on Foden for not putting a foot on it
Foden 100% needed to get a foot on that. He knew the defender was there.
It's like 3 foot away, he's not getting a foot on it
Well, he should put his three foot on it then. Sheesh...
Huge IQ play.
yeah, not sure what he was doing there. A toe on that and they're through (well, who knows, maybe that only means RM need to score 3 in stoppage, which is only a handful of human sacrifices)
i mean it literally hit his foot and he did nothing with it/wasn't ready for it.
Before that he should have slid in, he stopped cause it looks like he assumed it was going in
Yeah cos it's fucking hard to react to a ball kicked about a foot away from you. Maybe he could've been a bit more prepared but this is a crazy ask
Grealish was incredible those few minutes he played, proper shocked me as a Madridista, what a baller, should have played more
Cos for some stupid reason people have decided to add him to the list of players people hate on for no good reason.
The other chance was an amazing save too.
Crazy how the weight of this moment completely changed 5 minutes later
Also how insane of Grealish to dribble past the keeper from such a tight angle, would legit have been an impressive goal
Yeah man, everyone bitching at grealish but he embarrassed the Madrid defence twice and was only prevented from scoring by a world class save and a world class clearance.
Give the guy a break.
Yup. Dude was impressive and I thought "now we're done" twice. He was freaking scary.
Too true, it's like the fella pissed in there cornflakes.
Everything about this is surreal. The clearance is crazy enough, but then it hit Foden after it was cleared, then Madrid gets two goals...
Assuming you're talking about grealish. That's what I thought yesterday too, wtf are those massive calves?
Fuck this, where is the replay of Courtois' save just a minute after this one, pure porn
"I left to win trophies"
As a fellow villan, I’m loling right here with you.
Champions of Europe, they'll never sing that!
Shout it louder for the people in the back lol.
tbf he will win the prem in his first season (in all likelihood)
Not if Aston Villa stop him
We need to do the business against Burnley so we can play U23s against Liverpool, can’t risk hurting the cause.
This is why you never give up. 4 minutes later and this moment makes all the more difference
this is what won the game. it kinda feels like foden could've done more and sorta ball watched.
Tbh I think that's a tad harsh, it's all very quick and close.
Well this proved gigantic
Huge from Mendy, right up there with the other Real Madrid goals in importance.
That's the moment it all turned upside down
Should’ve worn normal shin guards
TIL Florian Grillitsch plays for City now
Holy fucking holy
reminds me of Bellamy's goal for City vs Man utd
This could be the turning point of the match. Mendy was the MOTM for me
Was as important as the goals
there's no post of courtois foot parade just later ?
Grealish was incredibly dangerous those few minutes he played, don’t understand why pep didn’t play him more, what a baller. Shocked me as a Madrid fan
Grealish didnt shoot it, he cleared it
We didn't know how crucial that was...
This is why I love football. This exact situation
Wow I guess sometimes it all adds up
This was the game changing moment.
This is so much more important now
Whelp... Save of the century in hindsight...
Ah yes this is it, the clearance that decided the tie, pain.
That was crazyyy
It hits Foden and still doesn't go in! Real Madrid have some kind of deal with the devil
THE LUCK STARTED HERE. FUUUUUU
100 mil pound chances
It didn't age well.
