FYI, after what many users in the last Meta Thread suggested, plus a discussion in a recent pinned comment here in the DD, tomorrow's Free Talk Friday is going to start a bit earlier than usual.
It's going to be posted at **9AM UTC** (UK Time). We believe this works by covering a lot of places in more convenient hours. We've also unified when the second stickied weekly thread is posted, which is also this time (so FTF, Monday Moan, Sunday Support, etc, are all going to be posted at the same time). If you have any feedback, happy to hear it!
I learned around 2 years ago haha and I knew about Rangers since always. I always thought before that he retired in Milan after 2012 just like couple of other legends
Was looking through an old DD and found this:
> I was just starting to enjoy watching Spurs having the best defense and third best attack in the league, but then I saw Arteta's Arsenal pass the ball around in the midfield and then cross the ball 50 times... now I know why they call it the beautiful game. There's something so attractive about having one open play goal in two months that makes scoring 45 goals in 21 matches just BORING. Jose out tbh, I'd trade him for a true genius in a heartbeat.
that's amazing, as someone who plays CL fantasy Idk how I could not notice that. Nobody seemed to have Vlachodimos or Benfica defenders in their teams, it went completely under the radar
Merson really doesn't look well. Reminds me of how George Best used to look on Soccer Saturday.
Doesn't have the best football takes as a pundit, but do hope he's getting help and support, and if the job helps with that, I'm fine with it.
And to you.
I’ve been a United fan since 1999.
Before you ask, I couldn’t possibly pick a favourite moment from my time as a fan.
Did you prefer Istanbul or finally winning the league one time after 3 decades more in your time as a Liverpool fan?
Relax, it's just a small tease. I don't judge! If you are a fan of the sport, that's great.
My favourite football documentation is about Broich, so I'm happy about football in Australia.
Lower your walls a little, not everyone wants to attack you personally!
Hope you have a great day!
PS - change your politicians and try to copy new zealand for once.
Hypothetically Atletico can face United, City, Chelsea, and Liverpool
When last was there a team that faced teams only from one country to their CL final?
People like Klopp and the plastic foreign fans moaning about not having five subs because 'internationals' forgetting that back in the good old days, they didn't even fucking bother with an international break, whenever England / Scotland / Ireland etc played, teams just wouldn't have some of their best players for the weekends League fixtures, hilarious.
I loved the song *Stereo Love* since it first released and would always stop what I'm doing and listen to it on the radio. When I see and hear that the Villamarin plays it, I was ecstatic.
How has vlahovic been for juventus? I havent watched him much but he was awful vs villareal (but then again everyone was awful) and he’s only scored in 3 matches out of 10. Is it allegri’s tactics or is he having a hard time adjusting? Whats going on?
Doesn't have the service and creativity at Juve other than Dybala, which is something they lack even more without Chiesa. Long-term, I always said that the Juve move would mean that Vlahovic would struggle without the creativity.
I don’t mind Madrid, personally it was my 4th preferred draw so right in the middle of our options. Could be worse could be better. What’s annoyed me is Bayern city and Liverpool have all avoided each other and that city is in our side of the bracket. Hopefully simeone does his black magic. Looking at the draw as a whole I make the Liverpool the favorites
I don’t mind Chelsea, personally it was my 4th preferred draw so right in the middle of our options. Could be worse could be better. What’s annoyed me is Bayern city and Liverpool have all avoided each other and that city is in our side of the bracket. Hopefully simeone does his black magic. Looking at the draw as a whole I make the Liverpool the favorites
What a load of bs. I used to go to every game with my cousins as a kid. But none of us live in the city anymore. It's a city of 500k and career opportunities are limited. Does that make everyone a plastic who aren't supporting their team?
Also what is a non-plastic mean of support?
It has to be "pool" so people know i am talking about liverpool , there is too much losers and fools in England , if i say loserfool can be anyone in that country.
Is it a thing or some kind of special relationship that good players (or manager even) from Lazio usually end up at Inter? Some good Roma players also end up in Milan
According to BILD, it'll cost €355m to get Haaland. It includes the agent/dad commissions, bonus, wage for 5 years and release clause.
Insane amount of money...
> sound much more than it actually is
How is this "much more than it exactly is" when it's literally taking into account every expense it would cost to get him?
> people
So you're blaming me for being different than how other idiots think?
They're the same ones who are like "oh Messi hasn't been a good transfer this season but who cares, he was free" but don't take into account the insane wages he gets paid. As if that's not an expense when keeping a player.
And again, it's not more than it actually is. It's €355m or whatever because that's how much it'll cost the club. You're acting like I'm overinflating his numbers
Because it's so common when people use it in debates about which teams spend the most. Like you can get a player for a free and be spending 600k a week on his wages. Doesn't mean that player was cheap (or that the club is a saint for not spending money). It's just so flawed
It's a 63m transfer and after another team triggers the release clause in a few years City will end up making a significant profit on Haaland. Hopefully after winning a few UCLs.
Just started watching football again. I miss playing it. I played it since I could walk up up until I was a teenager but lost interest after a shitty experience with coaches. Tbf I haven’t followed the game closely in a decade but what’s new in the EPL?
I’m hoping Arsenal are still fatigued tomorrow from their Liverpool game. They’ve looked very good recently, praying Martinelli and Odegaard have burnt themselves out.
It was't particularly intense was my point. Arsenal went toe to toe with liverpool so it was mostly even i.e. Liverpool didn't make them run about chasing the ball all match. It wasn't particularly different from a normal fixture.
Arteta just wants to make noise so it doesnt happen the same way when the spurs game is re-arranged. That ones more important and harder to win than this game.
But Leicester played in Europe that’s why you had to play them on the Sunday. It’s difficult to fit the amount of games in that have been postponed.
It doesn’t mean the prem are against arsenal
Our knocks were mostly from contact injuries.
Everyone was happy to get games postponed. You won’t hear villa fans saying the prem is against us over it.
And they did a very poor job to the point where people get suspicious. Again, there is no reason to not put the game on sunday instead of playing 3 games as close as legaly possible.
Neuer
Alves/Pique/Puyol/Lahm
Xavi/Busquets/Iniesta
Messi/Lewandowski/Pedro
LW was difficult, because Guardiola has had some good LWs, but no real standout candidate. Villa had one fantastic season but was injured the next, Ribery played his best football the season before Guardiola arrived at Bayern, Leroy Sane hit some incredible heights but was never fully trusted, and Sterling has fluctuated between unstoppable and incredibly mediocre. In the end, I went for Pedro. Just a reliable presence who'd do the hard work for that front line while also chipping in with his share of goals.
Conference league is in general a great idea, because it gives the chance to shine for the smaller leagues. Plus it don't really feel like a 3rd tier competition, because EL and CoL games are on the same day.
But one big disadvantage is that for large group of clubs it's actually more beneficial to play in Conference than in Europa. Take Legia as an example. In the qualifications we eliminated both Bodo/Glimt and Slavia. But they are still playing in Conference, while we ended our campaign on EL groups stage, when we faced Napoli, Leicester and Spartak, arguably better teams than all the teams Bodo/Glimt and Slavia faced so far in Conference. At the end of the day they will gather more points to ranking than we, although we eliminated them so early in the season.
It really looks like it's actually better to play Conference than in Europa, for clubs of our size, that don't really have a chance to win EL. I mean the money are similar and it's easier to gather points in Conference.
Maybe they will have to work out some tier system just like they do for CL and Europa League. Maybe the last placed teams of each group play one-off matches against each other and 2 winners move to the UECL.
But yeah, its very complicated
They should do the sensible thing and let the CL be more like the ESL, Europa be the set of next best clubs, and then the ECL the next best. Basically as it is but with clubs being selected on actual ability i.e. Prem gets 6 places in the CL since the top 6 teams are all better than the ones that qualify through the lesser leagues like Sherrif etc.
Winners of the lower cups get entry to the tier above.
No more worries about a breakaway super league and no more watching lesser teams getting bounced every year in the CL group stage.
But then less people will watch it and will be relegated to a third tier competition. I get where you are coming from, but it doesnt seem to be the solution
I really hope Ancelotti doesnt play the Modric Kroos Casemiro midfield. Modric definitely starts but you have to have Valverde or Camavinga there or maybe both of them
Who's the favourite for the Conference League after the draw? Are Marseille up to the task? I like Sampaoli, but i haven't watched them at all this season.
This is how Man United go back to their winning roots. Ronaldo is a legend at the club and will be viewed as a source of inspiration and a role model for up and coming stars who strive to be like him, or better, want to win trophies for the club. No amount of oil money or gegenpressing will change the fact that Ronaldo's immediate impact at United will make them competitive again and desirable for players to want to go play there. This club's future has been born.
You got embarrassed by Bertrand Traore and a fan tried to pick up a fight with our players while he had a toddler in his arms lol, bout all i recall of this shite GS
That whole Everton campaign was a great Europa League moment
Remember only 13,000 actually bothered turning up to watch us lose 1-5 at home to Atalanta and the upper Bullens was swinging like a see-saw from all the Atalanta fans jumping up and down

That was sort of a crucial factor in him getting the job
What job? You thinking of Van Bronkhorst?
Wait until you find out he reitred in Swiss league
No that I actually knew cause I saw it before

Brilliant
We're the team with the most clean sheets in the CL this season (of the teams present in the QFs)
that's amazing, as someone who plays CL fantasy Idk how I could not notice that. Nobody seemed to have Vlachodimos or Benfica defenders in their teams, it went completely under the radar

GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED
Isn't that the Spurs song? Cheeky to put your team instead.
agreed proper tinpot that
Hypothetically Atletico can face United, City, Chelsea, and Liverpool When last was there a team that faced teams only from one country to their CL final?
2014 real madrid played: schalke, dortmund, and bayern on the way to the final , but the final was against atletico
I can’t imagine that’s happened but last season we played 3 la liga teams (including group stage)
They've already faced us in the group stage so they'd have faced three this season even if City knocks them out.
Madrid derby in the semis needed. Such a classic fixture of last decade's Champions league
Both teams are shadows of their 2014-2018 levels
Prime Real was in 2010-13
I’m talking about CL performances
Easy win for us. Atleti are shit. Haven't beaten us since summer 2018
Yeah Atleti have been pretty ass but starting to find form again. And if they do knock out City then it just shows that they are playing really well
People like Klopp and the plastic foreign fans moaning about not having five subs because 'internationals' forgetting that back in the good old days, they didn't even fucking bother with an international break, whenever England / Scotland / Ireland etc played, teams just wouldn't have some of their best players for the weekends League fixtures, hilarious.

should go back to that imo. make city n liverpool play their c team or smtn

It is because of Triassic Tactics. Vlahovic looks like Napoleon in Saint Helena every game.
This comment is so good
Yeah I like to have fun with my similes, I don’t think people realize how much of a meme Allegri is.
Allegri needs to go
I don’t mind Madrid, personally it was my 4th preferred draw so right in the middle of our options. Could be worse could be better. What’s annoyed me is Bayern city and Liverpool have all avoided each other and that city is in our side of the bracket. Hopefully simeone does his black magic. Looking at the draw as a whole I make the Liverpool the favorites
This game is very 50/50. Chelsea were the 4th preferred option for majority Madrid fans too.

loserpool fans are so brain dead that they make Sporting fans look good.
Most of them are either Americans or Scandinavians
90% of their "fans" never been in England.
Our city's population is like 500k. Isn't it obvious most fans are foreign? It's the same for literally every club in the world.
That's what we said.
Yeah but I found it weird he said it as "fans"
It was to highlight the difference between local fans who go to games and actually support the team and the plastics
Oh yes because as long as you attend a game you're a fan. Anything else and you're a plastic
If you don't go to games then your support is plastic yeah. Matchgoers help their team through non plastic means.

Semi: Liverpool - Bayern Munich Manchester City - Real Madrid Final: Liverpool- Real Madrid (Liverpool take it)
subscribe. Be nice winning a final against Real after 2017/18. Still though , they knocked us out last year
You guys were in shambles tho. This year your definitely tied favorites with Bayern and City
I like it but Madrid take it

You might have to install the Conference League app👍
Just found it is the same app
it has a joint one with the conference league
Cheers, can’t wait to use it

When every other transfer people only discuss the fee this is making it sound much more than it actually is.

Won't he be able to leave for free after his contract is over?
No City fan expects Haaland to stay for 5+ years. Madrid can buy him for 150m in 3 years though.
Haaland only wants a 3 year contract
The release clause makes it a 3 year contract in effect. No way City are giving him a 3 year contract though.
Thats like 10 mil less than what it costs the Saudis to buy Newcastle.
Julian Weigl called up. It's possible that Hansi might not be a serious coach 🥶

From 10 years ago? United are shit. City,Liverpool have become monsters.
I’m hoping Arsenal are still fatigued tomorrow from their Liverpool game. They’ve looked very good recently, praying Martinelli and Odegaard have burnt themselves out.
Played well against pool so they weren't chasing the ball all game. Shouldn't be tired unfortunately for you.
They won’t be tired after playing an intense game just a few days before? They will definitely be fatigued, that’s why Arteta is crying.
Of course we will be, the premier league made sure of that.
Lol you have to play the games sometime
Doesnt mean it cant be on sunday
We had to play last Thursday then on Sunday. All teams do it, there’s no point in crying about it.
Yeah, that's normal. Thursday/sunday schedule is normal. Not Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday.
But Leicester played in Europe that’s why you had to play them on the Sunday. It’s difficult to fit the amount of games in that have been postponed. It doesn’t mean the prem are against arsenal
And you looked worse for it and suffered multiple on pitch knocks
Our knocks were mostly from contact injuries. Everyone was happy to get games postponed. You won’t hear villa fans saying the prem is against us over it.
Because youre not in a cl race
Why does that matter? The point is the prem isn’t against arsenal, they are just fitting games in where they can.
And they did a very poor job to the point where people get suspicious. Again, there is no reason to not put the game on sunday instead of playing 3 games as close as legaly possible.
i want to see arteta rant about fixture congestion again please beat them 😭
I think you’ll give them a good game either way tbh
Yeah I think so. Should be a great game.
What's the all time best XI of players who have played under Pep?
Neuer Alves Pique Puyol Alaba Xavi Busquets Iniesta Robben Messi Ribery/ Messi Eto'o Ribery Could include Boateng at CB
Neuer Alves/Pique/Puyol/Lahm Xavi/Busquets/Iniesta Messi/Lewandowski/Pedro LW was difficult, because Guardiola has had some good LWs, but no real standout candidate. Sterling for me
Pretty sure Lahm never or veeeery rarely played LB for Pep. It was Alaba and Bernat
Neuer Dani Alves Pique Kompany Lahm De Bruyne Xavi Iniesta Messi Lewandowski Ribery The lw and cb slots are the ones I’m least sure about …
Neuer Alves Puyol Pique Alaba Xavi Busquets Iniesta Messi Lewy Eto
Neuer Alves/Lahm-Pique-Puyol-Abidal maybe? Xavi-Iniesta-Busquets Messi-Lewy-Henry?
Eto'o is a better shout
