One of the themes we noted from our recent meta thread is the request from some that Free Talk Friday be posted at an earlier time than its current schedule - which is 12pm CET.
The reason for this time slot is that we feel this best caters to the variety of users we have from various timezones - so although it’s not perfect, and doesn’t work for everyone, it’s the best compromise.
One of the loudest voices on this matter is from people in European timezones, who would like to see the thread posted earlier.
Before making any changes to the schedule, we wanted to consult the community and gather some feedback. As such…
* Would you like to see FTF posted at a different time than 12pm CET, and if so what time do you think would work best?
* One idea we’ve floated amongst the mod team is having two FTF threads, an “early” and a “late” thread. Example times would be 8am and 5pm CET. How would you feel about having two FTF threads, in order to “refresh” the chat?
* Or do you think we’re best off leaving as it is?
Please let us know your thoughts, and any other suggestions, by replying to this comment!
This is what I said and got laughed at https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/tdgqxo/daily_discussion/i0l61hl/?context=3
Hopefully now everyone knows.
1. Which club used to play at Filbert Street?
3. Who was City's first signing under Sheikh Mansour's ownership?
4. I've played for the following clubs- Dynamo Dresden, Marconi Stallions, Leicester City, Middlesbrough, Kaiserslautern, Bradford City, Fulham and Chelsea. Who am I?
5. I've played with Fabinho, John Arne Riise, Michael Owen, Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, Ricardo Carvalho, James Rodríguez, Dan Burn, Ben Foster, Jonathan Woodgate and Andriy Voronin. Who am I?
that's the only two I attempted
And you got them both right, well done!
>!All correct- brilliant work again mate!<
First one is >!leicester!<
Grealish literally doesn’t do anything except get the ball on the left and pass it sideways. Either that or he keeps it for several seconds going nowhere and goes down.
new DD btw
step ova step ova step ova step ova
10 pounds for this??? Chelsea deserve all the sanctions https://twitter.com/footyscran/status/1503441312212828167?s=21
10 pounds though…
City look shit.
Yeah you guys don’t even need to win on Wednesday
Dias can't come back quick enough. Need him at the backline.
we’ll gladly take Laporte or Stones if you guys don’t like them
You look well open at the moment.
Hmmm lapornhub 🤔
Simeone coming to Man Utd, tears in my eyes.
[Has to be one of my favorite small football moments](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LqxPGuVGQY&ab_channel=BrunoSoares)
What is small football and how does it differ from regular football?
A small moment in football
Mahrez actually has the best touch of all time. You genuinely can’t change my mind about that.
KDB gave him a brilliant pass under pressure from 3 palace players in behind the back line and Mahrez’s first touch took him back to Leicester
Maradona exists. Not anymore I guess
He didn’t touch the ball basically at all against United because everything was going down the other flank and then scored that sexy ass goal.
Im sorry but marcelo>>>>>>>>>>
Nah Marcelo’s touch is overrated by having two insane highlight touches that everyone has seen.
Mahrez does those for breakfast week in week out.
Marcelo literally stop balls launched in the air by standing on it and even has fucking overhead first touches noone is close to him ever
Yeah everyone has seen THAT touch. Mahrez career touch highlights can’t be touched.
Its not just one for marcelo i promise you.
People didn't start rating his touch in 2017.
Great Ball knowledge
I just wanna see takefusa Kubo become a successful footballer
Had so much potential. Do you think he would have been better off if he stayed in Barça?
He would have gotten a lot of chances in the first team that's for sure
Gotta be exhausting rooting against City (or Bayern)
You have to do it as much as rooting for your own team, because a single win by them and a loss for your team means the league is over. At the end of the day, they win and everyone does it all over again next week until they win the league.
True. It's the hope that kills you. The worse feeling is when you can't capitalise on their losses.
You mean in a title race? I "root" against City but them winning just does nothing because I expect it, when they bottle a game I just come in and laugh and it's free dopamine. It only works because there are few enough City fans that they don't penetrate my echo chambers though.
How hard is it. It's called Selhurst PARK
Why does the yank feed keep saying Selhurst?
The stadium is located in Selhurst though.
I thought they play in a crystal palace
Isn’t that the stadium in Ted Lasso 😮
who kept downvoting everytime i shit on micah for being a rubbish pundit, dont tell me has stans 💀💀
Hate people who cry about downvotes.
sorry its upset you, gonna moan more about it moving forward 👍👍
You can do whatever you want. And people can downvote you for crying about downvotes. Free world.
agree 👍 just like im free to tell you to fuck right off now
You can downvote me as well. Atleast I'm not going to cry about it on dd.
Imma upvote just to balance things out.
always rated and knew you were a real one
Where do you guys draw the line between “modern football” and older football years wise?
Same as the rest of society and culture. 2008. It’s when the internet became mainstream on people’s phones, and the economic crash changed society
In football terms, it’s when Pep was at Barcelona… changed the game
Essentially when Roman killed it.
I imagine it depends on people's age. I'm older than most on here so in my mind there's a cut off point where the Premier League started as the league become so much more money orientated then.
1992, but realistically there’s no such thing.
*Thanos kidnaps Ancelotti*
Thanos : play Gareth Bale or I'll snap half the universe away
Ancelotti : *benches Bale*
Don Carlo is based
Best stadium with light show
Best Game to watch now?
Jesus fucking christ this twat of a manager of ours is saying that his starting 11 wasn't wrong when he made two subs in the 37th minute with no injuries whatsoever. Who the fuck even made this guy our manager?
I've just seen someone proposing this line-up to fit Mbappé, Haaland, Benzema and Vini in the same team:
It's even worse than the one I see quite often:
Neither works - and nothing anyone else proposes will work either.
Football fans have forgotten about the 442 game is truly gone.
Funnily enough, they are switching to 442 from next season.
Vini - Haaland - Mbappe
Alaba - Militao - Valverde
chelsea fans are so defensive lately you'd thought they receive a direct instruction from tuchel and being partnered at the back with thiago silva.
Average effort but upvotes because it’s chelsea
sound mate 👍
Wow Athletic Bilbao really do have a fantastic crop of young players coming up. Also seems like the new generation of Spanish players are really good
First Christensen and now Mazroui, 2 players that have rejected Bayern to join Barca. Bayern can have the scores but they’ll never have the streets like Barca. Bigger club, bigger pull.
Romano said you made a much better offer for Christensen and he still only signed for three years. Bayern would never agree to a contract like that.
And there was no offer to Mazraoui
Barca is objectively the streets club. Broke as fuck just pulling in players through the streets eternal memory.
were we even interested in Mazraoui?
22h into DD. Should've picked a better time to bait my friend.
Bayern target better players.
Three if you include Dest.
FM is so unrealistic. Burnley are sitting in 3rd behind me and Liverpool with Sean Dyche as manager. Not only that, they are the highest scoring team. Motherfuckers even scored 7 goals in one match 💀💀.
We're 15 games into the season btw.
in my save Klopp got sacked by Liverpool after 12 games, went back to Dortmund, got sacked again, went back to Mainz, got sacked again and is currently unemployed
I wish he would get the sack in my save. The bastard keeps winning everything and refuses to let me win anything. Last season I lost Carabao, FA Cup and CL finals against him. I led the league the whole season until the last month or so and he overtook me.
This year I had a 100% start to the season and they drew a couple of games, but then around the 12th game I visited Anfield and was 2-0 up at HT. They scored in the 86th minute before getting an equalizer in the 93rd by own goal from my keeper.
I just can't get the better of them
The good timeline
Who are you managing.
City or Rovers?
I hope you treated Andy Weimann well
That part is realistic though of course. ;)
With me in charge? Of course
This is Sean Dyche with a top 15 budget.
how good was xabi alonso for liverpool?
Their best midfielder
Good enough for Slippy G to kiss him on the lips 😘 that's all I'll say.
04/05 he was brilliant. 08/09 was brilliant. 05/06 and 07/08 were good seasons.
06/07 was awful.
04/05 he was definitely not brilliant, there were still some doubts and he took time to settle. 07/08 he wasn’t very good either, it’s why Rafa was so desperate to replace him with Barry that summer. It’s 05/06 and 08/09 from which were his best
He scored several important goals and was basically everything you could ask for in 04/05. Likely makes the team of the season if Lampard didn’t break his ankle.
Best Spanish deep lying playmaker…
Excellent player. His departure lead to a period of decline
It was a combination of more things than that, injuries to Torres were I’d say an even bigger blow
when you think about it, it's a bit disappointing that the whole top 5 of the Eredivisie play in red (and white), and 6 of the top 7 do
The Dutch have historically been very creative, so I know they have the ability to have more design variety than that! A little disappointing for them haha.
[Carra spot on about Chelsea and Roman](https://twitter.com/theredmentv/status/1503454236826296322?s=21)
Need a mirror mate
Can't see it, what did he say?
People who constantly moan about various pundits being shit but continue to watch them will never cease to amaze me. There's a very simple solution to the problem you have.
Can hardly go and ask the bloke behind the bar to mute it cos you don’t want to hear gnev can you
Probably he is assuming everyone watches online streams by themselves.
Exactly. I just watch managers' press conferences, nothing else.
I don't like journo's either so I personally just watch Despacito remix compilations of my favourite players on Youtube
If you fall asleep during your teams games are you even a fan?
I slept through an epic comeback by my team once because I was depressed and thought they had no chance, so I guess I'm not a fan. Tbf though that was at a bit of a low point personally.
Im sorry you went through that man and hope things are better
Haha thanks, it's all good now!
LVG ball was killing my soul
I never fall asleep during my teams games. I switch off the TV and pretend I don't care about football checking the score every 15 seconds.
Used to have a mate that was a proper sesh head who would literally fall asleep at Selhurst during games every Saturday. Nutter.
We're getting Twenty Hag.
What do you need 20 old women for👀
Carraghers easily the best pundit. I don’t even think it’s close
Old Trafford about to be torn down? RIP bozo
There was a time last season where it felt like Liverpool would get Europa League, feels like a fever dream now.
I think most people knew it was just a bad patch and that they'd get out of it. Don't think it ever actually felt like they would go to the Europa League
Nah we went on some ridiculous run towards the end of the season, think we won the last 10 including away at Old Trafford. We were seemingly way out of it
I disagree, while they definitely deserved top 4 in the end, they only finished 3 pts ahead of 5th, and went on a crazy run (including their goalkeeper scoring a late winner) that might not have happened.
But weren't they like 1st in January? What I meant was that they started and finished the season strong and just had a bad spell in the middle, but I always felt like they would get out of that and at least get 4th.
We looked dead in the water after Fulham. We shouldn’t have got top four being that bad for 15 games
Klopp tactics found out. He’s burned out like at Dortmund!
Lyrical Forklift's Daily Collection of Terrible Takes™
* Does nobody ever think that the fans in soccer as a whole are the worst in the world? Not in a passionate way I mean as actual supporters who go to games? They generally do not follow the game, cheer on the players etc. They spend most of their time singing silly songs, even during exciting plays. Obviously some teams are not as bad as others. It's (imo) a terrible culture, and can ruin a teams performance.
* Anyone who thinks Messi is goat just doesn’t understand football. It’s just pure facts.
* Dembélé is better than him (*on Salah going to Barca*)
* Now should Liverpool and ManU managers be asked the same questions? As far as i know, there are exécutions in the US
* He's having one of his best seasons ever, has evolved his gameplay and is elevating the team. That literally is what is happening. You on the other hand are talking out of your ass and trying to fabricate some alternate reality where this is not happening and trying to pass it off as real and then discrediting everybody who is telling you otherwise by saying they don't watch football. Yeah we are all wrong and your the only right one here...Please just.... shut the fuck up, it's the best thing you can do for your dignity at this moment. It's obvious that you're so far behind you think you're in first place. (*On Ronaldo*)
The last one is the worst take of them all. Take any decent striker who works hard and can create chances for himself and his teammates and we are instantly a more cohesive team than now.
One game, which in all fairness was fantastic, and months of mediocrity never happened. The stans will call for the manager's head if he isn't the focal point at the age of 42.
The first one sounds like a troll.
Oh it absolutely is and if Liverpool or United were owned by the American government then they should be under massive scrutiny too
Last one depends on who it is, if it's Messi or Ronaldo then damn.
damn... Thought it might be me responding to a Lacazette hater 😤
Cool but what the hell is a lyrical forklift supposed to mean? My username comes from rearranging the letters of my lip balm.
I had a dream about fifteen years ago that I was releasing music under that pseudonym and it was so ridiculous that it stuck with me
Haha that works
>Does nobody ever think that the fans in soccer as a whole are the worst in the world? Not in a passionate way I mean as actual supporters who go to games? We should learn real supporter culture from them and just shout "Defence!" And "Attack".
Which sport fandom does that?
The one that loves freedom my brother
I don't know what's more sad - these takes or the fact that you wrote this post.
You don't enjoy reading ridiculous takes?
I remember when Neville done that doc on Qatar and was practically pushing pro-Qatar propaganda.
One of the strangest things I’ve seen.
This is City's 2nd toughest game of the run-in. I make Wolves away 3rd, West Ham away 4th.
The spoiler tag you click on has to score a penalty to save your life, are you safe?
>!Willian!< >!Messi!< >!Kepa!< >! Cristiano Ronaldo!< >! De Gea!< >! Jorginho!<
jorginho will save me as long as its not an important game
If no one has me I know Willian got me.
PR7 will save me
No, the ball hit me
I thought the one I chose was the worst, then I uncovered them all. 60/40 chance I live.
only 2 guaranteed safes in there 🥵
I clicked on a certain K, so I'm dead, but you need to fix your spoiler tags by removing the spaces.
I want it to stay that way, so people can guess by choosing on what they think will save them.
De Gea. I'm done for
I clicked all of them
Oh shit it doesn’t work?
It does. But I just clicked them all and then read your comment and by that point I had seen the answers
The Townsend screamer against City in 18/19 is one of my favourite PL goals of all time.
Here's praying for a similar style goal against city again! 🙏🏻
Fodens had a bit of a mixed season. Really thought he’d explode
He has been more important to the team than ever, but his output has taken a hit. Don't know what it is.
