I sometimes wonder if Bielsa would've been better suited in an analytic role as part of a manager's workgroup. Not that he SHOULD have went that route, but I genuinely think he would've ended up having much more respect in footballing circles like that since it'd temper his lack of pragmatism and whatnot

TheFakeIceCream

I refrain form praising Messi and Ronaldo online because I'll be called a Pessidog or a Penaldian. It hurts my feelings.

Since playing football is their job, what do players do as a hobby? Beside the famous examples of golf

KensaiVG

Hardly a hobby but Robert Rojas would use his vacations between seasons to help with the harvest on his family's Mandioca farm

YourPupilsDilated

Hazard and Malouda really stand out for me since I never really remember either of those players being on set-piece duty. Ronaldo as well (though in the early part of that season he was on corner duty and took a couple of indirect free kicks before United realized just how prolific he could be in the air and from range).

Seanxprt

Not surprised to see Lampard's name come up most frequently

RomeoLavia

Only player in the history of the league to create 100+ chances in five or more seasons.

TheFakeIceCream

Do you have any ideas as to why it's much higher compared to La Liga? Do you think it's harder to rack up G+A in La Liga compared to the PL?

RomeoLavia

It's a thought that I have had that also applies to why I think the tackle and interception numbers have been so different in the two leagues over the years (less so recently, but from 2000-2015 the Premier League players making the most defensive actions were usually making way way more than La Liga players who were making the most defensive actions) I think a lot of it comes down to the paces of the leagues. La Liga being slower and more technical with teams that were more focused on holding possession rather than just hitting on the break means less tackles and creative passes to go around. That's just my guess. Haven't ever even seen an article about it.

jkeefy

15/16 Ozil was different gravy. People always banter us for saying it, but no joke give us a better striker than Giroud and Welbeck and we walk the league. Props to Leicester though, glad it was them.

Infamy444

Baines man. What a player

Echo361

Ozil in 15/16 was unplayable. Absolutely disgraceful that we only got 71 points that season

stickia1

Interesting, those numbers are a lot higher than the La Liga ones

GVE_ME_UR_SKINS

Prime Ozil was a menace man. What a footballer

>15/16 - Ozil - 146 chances created Thats the season where Ozil was on course to break Henry's assist record (had like 13 by christmas) and then Giroud couldnt score for 10+ games LMAO

Man Utd's fixtures from December to March are so easy you need a new word being invented in the dictionary to define it, I think any top team going through this run of 16-17 games would win almost every single one.

[deleted]

Blue_Moon_City

Pep never moans about fixtures. We played Liverpool psg and chelsea away in a week and he didn’t complain. Sure he talks about more subs in a game but he have never really moaned about close games. In fact one of his quotes from amazon documentary is how he says , “if you are tired, fuck you” being tired isn’t really an excuse.

Lol then only man city is a top team, no one else putting up 16 game win streaks.

BeingPowerful1455

Honestly think this summer might be the best time for Arsenal to get a new manager in. Arteta's steadied the boat and cleared out whoever needed to be cleared out so now is the time to hire a top top manager.

Nivadas

If I told you this summer is the best time for Spurs to get rid of Conte how would you feel?

Carthagu

One is Arteta and one is Conte. Pretty distinct difference.

BeingPowerful1455

Wouldn't make sense because he is a top top manager & just came in.

maxconnor6

I remember you once told me Xavi was one of the most incredible players in these kinda stats you'd seen and was far out from even what we consider a 'good' player. Undoubtedly the best midfielder I've seen in my life

RomeoLavia

His progressive numbers are even more ridiculous than his creative numbers (which is saying something)

_stone_age

Assists, chances, progressive carries and passes- incredible player.

maxconnor6

Thanks for doing all this dude, you're one of the reasons I respect stats a lot more now when it comes to rating players. There's been a definite change in my perspective from before, fantastic work

Utter_Perfection

Xavi absolutely blew out in 2008/09 season. The Euros and then Guardiola coming in was just something else. I remember before that he was a class technical player but never in actual conversation with best midfielders in the world. Then from 2008 on Xavi-Iniesta-Busquets, Guardiola, Spain broke the entire meaning of being a midfielder.

The420Roll

There was also a big period of time where "Xavi and Iniesta cant play together in midfield" was a consensus. Rijkard never played them together in important games for a reason. Even in Guardiola's first season Keita played a lot alongside with Xavi in tough away games (and Iniesta on the side like with Spain) The impact Guardiola's style of football in Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets cant be understated.

Infamy444

Nolito my god. Must be why we bought him. Not even Messi topped his numbers that season

deathramps-

That Carragher/Messi thread is proper bizarre. >How can you not understand it wasn't at all serious Like... What. We didn't see the message? It sounds 50/50 whether it was serious or not. To me it sounded more likely he was seriously trying to insult him

glycerethe

> It sounds 50/50 whether it was serious or not. To me it sounded more likely he was seriously trying to insult him So it's still 50/50? And you are just as clueless as those who claimed it's just a joke? Honestly don't know why so many care about a private convo that they themselves said they are clueless about.

deathramps-

😂 You what?? How is saying ‘it’s 50/50 as we haven’t seen the message’ the same as saying ‘it was clearly a joke’

glycerethe

Idk just quoting what you said.

deathramps-

😂😂😂 definitely don’t know

glycerethe

You are making more assumptions?

larcenistxd

Carragher's team is even more bizarre, he's got Spinazzola in there for 5 great games but won't put Ronaldo or Messi because he thinks they haven't been good signings for their new teams

Y3llowflash1

Yeah, bit weird. Both Ronaldo and Messi scored bucketloads last year and won two trophies each, so you could give it to either of them, but not including one of them is strange.

GratinDeRavioles

"I know you won Copa but i'm not putting you in ahead of my boy Salah" Messi outperformed Salah in about every stat within a more dysfunctional team. Messi was right ahah, that man is a proper donkey

I don’t even dislike arsenal but I wish their fans would realise they arent getting top four. Makes it easier.

Quab775

What's the point then .no

Echo361

Do fans really want opposition fans to not be hopeful?

Infamy444

Of course not. We'd rather the hope shatter than not be there

Echo361

Great so then why’s he commenting on wishing he didn’t have those hopes? Was pretty miserable when we were just pure shit because there wasn’t even banter worth taking. Now we’re decent it’s fun again.

genk41

They are more likely to get top 4 since arsenal the only team who already out of all cups.plus, among the top 4 contender, west ham is inconsistent due to injuries, spurs and man united squad still not having consistent performance under new manager. Arsenal, despite their weak performance against top team, they managed to get a win on other team where last year arsenal tend to lose against (that everton match was the anomaly)

FloppedYaYa

They have as much of a chance as getting top 4 as Tottenham and West Ham and even United do

Nivadas

>and even United do You already mentioned West Ham mate.

deathramps-

Most likely team to get that 4th spot tbh

GratinDeRavioles

Wanna bet something? I see it as quite unlikely, United has a better squad, Tottenham has a better coach, West Ham has better mentality. Something small, like 5-10€ to charity?

glycerethe

Why don't you mortgage your house, throw all your assets at the bookies for United finishing top 4? Much faster and easier for you to get rich, donate a million to charity, also don't need to run the risk of a random redditor to not pay up.

GratinDeRavioles

They do seem like the safest choice. But i'm more confident in betting against Arsenal than i am in betting for United lol

nbaylor1

Why do you think so? I know they have games in hand but united are level on points with them. Not to mention west ham and spurs above them.

deathramps-

Good squad, good coach, just think they look improved every time I watch them. West Ham don’t have the squad. If Conte can get some signings in (specifically wingbacks) that might put doubts in my mind though.

mrscorchingtakes

Even if they get top 4 they'll just be in a new top 4 race next season, won't be much different

[deleted]

[удалено]

mrscorchingtakes

No you can't. The only teams you can say it for are Arsenal and Tottenham. Teams outside the "big 6" aren't good enough to consistently fight for top 4. Teams who are already in there like Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd have the money to go from top 4 challengers into title challengers within a season or two. United have failed spectacularly so far but the possibility is there. Liverpool should also be good enough to secure it without getting into a race as long as they have Klopp and a healthy squad. Arsenal and Tottenham are the only teams who are in that middle ground of being richer than every non-big 6 team, so they'll always be up there, but they're also far enough away from the likes of City/Chelsea financially that it's gonna take a minor miracle for them to win the big trophies. tldr: Arsenal and Tottenham's ceiling is "fighting for top 4", the other teams fighting for it can go beyond that

NeoChrome75

The difference is they finally get to play in the champions league again

Echo361

And about 80 mil and being able to attract better players

loser0001

Why do twitter journalists write "according to sources" or something along those lines? Like unless they're just making it up themselves, everything comes from a source. Unless they name the source, it seems unnecessary.

RYAN_BENJAMIN

I think it’s to differentiate between info they’ve found out themselves from a player, or agent, and something they’ve read elsewhere. So they’ll say “according to reports” if it’s already been published in Bild or something. I haven’t paid attention to transfer rumours since about 2002 though, tbh. Bollocks industry.

[deleted]

It’s to differentiate from things they’ve just made up themselves

[deleted]

Why was Valverde Messi rated so highly. Messi most creative?

RomeoLavia

Messi had never led La Liga in chances created until Valverde believe it or not (he then did it in every single season under him). It was in many peoples minds the most all round version of him.

maxconnor6

Who was the leader in the stat in the seasons before before?

Infamy444

Wild guessing xavi, iniesta, maybe ozil

maxconnor6

Yeah I would've guessed these too, Iniesta isn't on the list though crazy enough

RomeoLavia

From 03/04 to 16/17, Beckham/Arango/Alves/Nolito/Rakitic/Di Maria all led the league in chances created for one season, Ronaldinho/Neymar/Ozil/Xavi did it for two seasons. Then Messi did it in 17/18, 18/19, 19/20 and 20/21

maxconnor6

Thanks for this, Alves leading as a fullback even back then is pretty great to see

The returning players looked off pace bc they’ve been carrying injuries, not played, were returning from COVID, and didn’t practice - of course they looked off. Arsenal have to play Away at Tottenham, where they haven’t won in 7 years. Old Trafford is not so mighty anymore, Tottenham battered United 6-1 the last time they met there.

And you couldn’t win any of them, while we beat City, drew against Liverpool and only lost to United because of Nuno’s existence

matematematematemate

>due to Nuno's existence mate Nuno had a positive record against you with a much smaller team (W3 D2 L1) There's teams that can ridicule him, but Arsenal ain't one of them.

Carthagu

Not really since we beat City previously and guess what? Nuno wasn’t manager. We’ve had plenty good performances actually. Some of our players are incompetent, but the tactics have been right every game. We should have beat Leicester like 5 or 6-1.

ecocentric-ethics

Imagine a scenario in which the top 3 and bottom 3 PL teams swap coaches for a full season. Would the top 3 still qualify for the UCL and would the bottom 3 still battle relegation?

TheodoreP

I think all three will stay up. I don't think you have to be that good to stay up, and I don't think there's any team in the premier league that is that far off in talent that a world class coach like Pep couldn't at least get them 17th.

HH_31_J

Dyche wins the league comfortably with Howe 2nd and Ranieri 3rd. The same shit basically Klopp and Tuchel can maybe save their teams but Pep would %100 go down with Burnley tho I cant even imagine hem trying to play possesion based football

larcenistxd

I can see Liverpool not qualifying with Eddie Howe, Ranieri has guided Chelsea to CL before so he could maybe do it again. Dyche would get it with City after bringing in a decent striker in January. All 3 of Pep, Tuchel and Klopp would save those teams from relegation.

PumpedUpMatic

How would the swap happen? Like, 1st with 20th, 2nd with 19th, 3rd with 18th? Because oh my god, that Manchester City team with Dyche, best team ever
