CruyffsPlan

He hit it like it was Zlatan’s head

jonbristow

🤣

Gungerz

Never seen that before. A team kicking the ball out on purpose to get a VAR review.

PrincessXxXDiana

Really smart by Hakimi

Gungerz

Half the Inter players were telling him to put it out tbf.

MoesseHoewe

it would have been checked no matter when the ball would have gone out

Daramangarasu

Nah, really dumb move. Should the penalty not been given, he would've just given possession away. VAR checks it either way, so why not keep playing until the play ends naturally?

uptowndrunk7

Depends on the ref/league. Yesterday the ref missed a clear penalty in favor of our opponent even after checking the VAR, then on the second half, our player got kicked in the shoulder in the opposite area, but the play still went for about 2 minutes and the ref didn't consult the VAR. Welp, at least things got even

just_dew_eat

IQ 2000

papapapapapokerface

It was pretty stonewall that's why and the ref was in a poor position The assistant should have given it but seemed scared

somechemenggdude

He hit that with hate lmaooo

Bushuazoo

Power 99

ShowtimeCA

I ve seen him play since he was 16. Never seen him this angry

Lolastic_

does it have a wife, he wants to hit that piece aswell

MadaraTheUchiha

Hatred almost made him miss

BS_2509

There is no such thing as almost when taking penalty’s

AddictiveSarcasm

The closer it is to missing the better the pen

themerinator12

The closer we are to danger, the farther we are from harm.

Mitchstr5000

Needs more pipe weed and lembas bread

shotputprince

the last of the old toby?

July_RS

This is poetic.

shinfoni

"Anyone can score a penalty, but not everyone can score one that barely goes in"

DazzaWright96

You can definitely almost miss when taking a penalty. Like what does that even mean?

duded101

there is no such as almost when taking a penalty

MoesseHoewe

that sound is really satisfying like a sniper shot

[deleted]

What a pen

[deleted]

Half the thread thinks its a mental decision and the other half thinks it's a stonewall penalty lol

fdm001

Welcome to serie a

drivebymedia

Aiming for Zlatan's shit eating grin

helloLeoDiCaprio

Strange situation. The slide definitely is a penalty, but at the same time it looks like Barella loses his grip and actually jumps over the leg by mistake. So he never touched him.

Epidemic7

yeah he kinda dived but if he didn't he would have been hit.

Nihilokrat

True, but players shouldn't always have to rely on being hit and potentially hurt to get a call. If Barella hadn't jumped, he would've gotten clipped. So pen either way imo.

helloLeoDiCaprio

Yeah, I kind off agree. This situation is so strange though, because he didn't dive and he also didn't jump to avoid getting injured. It just looked like he got tangled in himself while trying a flick and fell lifting his leg over the slide.

someitalianguy

I wonder if in cases where a player jumps to avoid contact but loses balance an indirect free kick would be a better call

EAXposed

Well, if there is no contact it can never be a direct free-kick/penalty, so then it should've been an indirect free kick. And since VAR can only check for penalties in this instance and there is no contact (so no penalty) VAR shouldn't have intervened at all... There probably was contact which simply was hard to see. But this was to tell you that a foul without contact can never be a penalty/direct free kick.

Nihilokrat

That is the written rule on those cases? Thanks for the info and clarifying it, I wasn't aware of that! So it is not "a pen either way" but a pen if there was contact (which I didn't see any of) or indirect free kick if there wasn't.

EAXposed

Yes, there is.

iampeytond

I find it stupid that the ref seemingly ignored that barely is at a 50° angle from the ground when he pretends to be clipped.

Nihilokrat

Yeah, Barella did the dying swan shit and that is standard in football nowadays. I despise it, but most players do it so you can't even point it out as "bad taste in this case" when everyone does it. Doesn't take way that he would've been hit and the pen wouldn't have been discussed as "50/50".

ShvedA

I myself think there shouldn't be a contact for the foul. However these decisions are inconsistent. Leao himself got a yellow for "dive" in similar situation this season.

greg19735

Still a foul though. Barella's ability to move was inhibited by a reckless slide. If you've gotta jump a reckless challenge and fall doing it, it's still a foul. Honestly the whole "refs are shit" thing is overblown. It was both a yellow and a pen.

giono11

I agree

ipollini

Not a yellow, in the penalty area it gets depenalized

greg19735

Sorry, my comment is ambiguous. My point was that Zlatan's 2nd yellow was a yellow. And also the pen was a pen.

Tarantantara

Inter really lucky today, Zlatans red card was also no or just minimal contact

maikk_

[yes, really lucky mate, so much luck](http://prntscr.com/xoad9k)

koreajd

Jesus man you didn’t have to do him like that On a real note.. wow that is dominant

Coldplay3R

as a nerrazuri i expect us to lose the next derby when it matters, in serie A.

2UpTop

> So he never touched him. Are you blind?

LForTer

he didn't, go frame by frame

[deleted]

Im with you, doesnt look like he touches him at all.

2UpTop

I did , I can clearly see Barella's right foot being dragged.

fdm001

Then you are legally blind. He so clearly jumps the contact. Its still a serie a penalty because he would've hit him if he didn't jump but he still made absolutely 0 contact

Slamball57

Nah, he’s right. There’s almost no contact there. The slide just makes it look like there was contact

helloLeoDiCaprio

No, look at it frame by frame. No actual touch at all. It's not a dive or a jump to avoid getting injured either. If Barella wasn't so clumpsy it would be a clear penalty, I'm not sure what it is now.

DevNeb

No touch. But I agree with the penalty decision

BosnianGooner

What a pen

earmuff_maniac

LMAO what pen is that

swearin_al

Top bins

Lukusius

Brilliant from Hakimi to kick it out to force VAR to look at it

Daramangarasu

Doesn't VAR look at it either way? Afaik, they can just undo anything that happened after the penalty if they give it

kozeljko

They do. They also check it while the game is going on.

crazymar1000

Every comment on this post is either about the pen being a banger, it being the most obvious clear pen ever, or it being a dive

dunce345

Is it me or barella was already down and there was no contact??

[deleted]

doesn't need to be contact he moved to avoid a reckless tackle and lost balance

EAXposed

There HAS to be contact for a direct free kick/penalty offence. If no contact it should be an indirect free-kick.

catch_fire

Can you point me to the rule for that? I always thought that the *attempt* for reckless play is enough to warrant a direct free kick, but that information might be outdated then?

EAXposed

"If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick". Law 12 Fouls and Misconduct, Laws of the game.

catch_fire

Yeah, but look at the text right above that: "A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force: • charges• jumps at • kicks or attempts to kick • pushes • strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt) • tackles or challenges • trips or attempts to trip" Not sure I am misreading this, but I would say that the attempt is still punishable then?

EAXposed

True, but at indirect free kick it also says: "An indirect free kick is awarded if a player: plays in a dangerous manner impedes the progress of an opponent without any contact being made is guilty of dissent, using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures or other verbal offences prevents the goalkeeper from releasing the ball from the hands or kicks or attempts to kick the ball when the goalkeeper is in the process of releasing it commits any other offence, not mentioned in the Laws, for which play is stopped to caution or send off a player" Then you could also say that it was a case of Barella's progress was being impeded.

catch_fire

Which does not matter since the attempt to trip (with his trailing leg for example) is already made. The following notes of the indirect free kick section go more into detail that this part of the rules is more aimed at scissor or bicycle kicks to my understanding.

Beats_Pill_2k16

I mean barella cut back to avoid Leao who was committing to a slide challenge. It was also a trailing foot that would have just caught Barella's foot. Its not like it was a crunching tackle, so calling it reckless is a bit much.

Strananach

One of the best pens I have ever seen

Barella was on the ground before Leao even touched him?

No keeper’s saving that in a hundred years, what a blast

kylo_soloxx

there's no contact at all

[deleted]

[удалено]

_dawgz

how the fuck do you go to VAR and see the player wasn’t even touched AND STILL call it a penalty

LeoR1N

honestly I could see the reason behind it, but Barella falling before the defender slide in just doesn’t cut it for me

supersonicdeathsquad

First the red, now this. Bribery allegations incoming...

makesyougohmmm

> Bribery allegations incoming... Inter haven't paid players in 3 months... bribery with what? Pirelli tyres?

BeneficialMouse2

Like wtf

PoachtekMong

Because conte cried about the ref earlier in the week and this is all that matters in this league

unholycut

🙄

kuky990

he only jumped to avoid some injury, but there was contact or else Barella would not be tragger in opposite way, unless Barella is superman

DavidSSB

What u see from ur angel is not exactly what happend

averageuserman

Yeah I agree the important thing is what you see from your demon

Vero_Milanese

Got downvoted for stating the same thing because I am a Milan supporter. It was a blatant dive. The ref literally spent 3 seconds looking at the replay before making a decision.

[deleted]

You're an idiot if you think its a "blatant dive" Either he falls due to contact or he falls cuz he slipped lost his footing trying to stop and cut as high speeds, either way its NOT EVEN CLOSE to being a dive.

Mausar

Shambolic refereeing

Bushuazoo

The fact that there was a VAR check and still the pen stood seems absurd to me

Mausar

Actually unreal that both the refs called it correctly at first then reviewed it (with technology, an even better view) and somehow fucked it up

Kornelijus13

Ibra in the mud

giono11

I don’t understand how anyone can watch this and not think it’s a penalty. Also AC fans have an inferiority complex and it shows heavy

neverfinishedanythi

It is Milan. AC is associazione calcio, meaning football club. It would be like calling arsenal “fc”

4thelolzz01

What about the FC fans tho?

bloodship123

Only to real madrid.

Clear dive!

Zallo92

Am I too biased to see the contact?

zion8994

... Yes

-GioPro

How is that a penalty, Barella skips Leao's legs and dives

kuky990

exactly, he skips his leg to avoid being hurt, still he does hit his foot if you check other angle, or esle Barella would not be dragged in opposite way of his movement and body.

iampeytond

He never actually touched him🤯🤯🤯

BeneficialMouse2

Wait, they give a pen for this? WTF

DavidSSB

One more goal rom, and its ur best day in ur life!

TheyStoleTwoFigo

He could have lifted over it to go on with the play, just as easily as he could have left it planted to sell the foul better, but why should he give away a chance at penalty, or sacrifice his ankle to be more convincing? The onus is on the defender to know wtf he is doing and not lunge into a space where there's a high likely hood of contact with another player without even being close to the ball. He got clowned.

c0mplexx

Valeri in the performance of his life lmao

5dchessmaster

that was so horrible

bughidudi

Looked like an easy call but from the replay it looks like there may be no contact and might be a dive. Probably the right call at the end of the day

zion8994

Insane that the ref didn't just call that a foul on the field.

tpy_

How was that a pen?😂

almostlikeu

A pen anyday

Kyogreprince

clear pen, if it was outside the box you wouldn't complain about it being a foul

SKrossos

There wasn't even any contact. Barella jumped over the leg

[deleted]

I don’t get how that makes it not a pen. If Barella doesn’t jump, there’s contact and it’s a pen. Just cause Barella avoided getting hit doesn’t mean a foul wasn’t committed.

tpy_

Lol excuse me? He was falling down before Leao arrived and Leao never touched him

Kyogreprince

smart play, blame Leao for sliding in nowhere near the ball :)

tpy_

Yet didnt touch Barella, and he was already falling.

[deleted]

I think he meant that reckless tackle is a foul regardless of contact. Still seems harsh tho

wyatt1209

He knocked his foot out from under him. That's an easy call

tpy_

Watch the replay my friend

DazzaWright96

Yeah looks like he pulls his left leg from underneath him

bughidudi

I thought so too initially but from the replay it looks like there is no contact and Barella jumper over him

germanefficiency

The ref pitys Inter at this point. Joke red and joke pen

siphario

Clear pen

[deleted]

Lmao Milan fans are actually the worst holy shit

tpy_

Care to explain?

[deleted]

Every Milan match thread is full of Milan fans whining about the other team and the refs.

tpy_

Well u are in the match thread without clearly watching the game. Whats ur point?

U_Gary

Checkmate.

TheSpartanLion

There is literally no contact, get a new pair of glasses

JonSnowAzorAhai

Inter players are great at hounding the ref. Milan naive to think that the ref would rule on the game in an unbiased way despite how much players shout.

Iuncta_Iuvant

This is what screeching like a clown against the supposed wrongs of a referee the matchday before gets you A made up red card and a made up penalty

[deleted]

not sure he touches him enough for a fall, but in VAR era touch = penalty (something for ifab to review)

pixelkipper

I swear Barella jumps before there is any contact

Gaverini

He hops over his first leg and just goes down, the trailing leg doesn’t even touch him??

vegascxe

And people will say Milan are getting free penalties lmao

Samkazi23

Such a shit show😂😂😂

jackass85

It looks like he never touches him.

BigBoiMike93

Sweeeeeet revenge

Misplaced_Moose

Joke call, he on the way down and there’s no contact

This ref is seriously lagging today. Like every single decision takes noticably more time than usually.

Keeper's gotta be saving that.

_MkambaMjinga_

That post sound is so satisfying..

[deleted]

what the fuck, am i blind or he didn’t even get touched?

virgyxx

Never a red on Ibra and never a pen here either... Such a strange refereeing

Prabhjas_12

Zlatan effect

FloOlf55

Unbelievable that they needed VAR for such a clear decision

Zlatan’s mouth is bigger than his nose.
