Gilmour, Mount, Barkley midfield 3 doing work, absolutely abusing Everton

[deleted]

Loving that gilmour kid. He wants the ball Everytime.

Blithe17

Only look, no touch

[deleted]

That's what you want in your midfielder. Of course he is young, he will make mistake , and may be will have couple of stinkers too. I hope social media fans does not affect him.

[deleted]

I think he was meaning Barca only look at him and don’t buy him, but it works on both levels

[deleted]

current Barca board will buy him only if he is costly or he is french or has massive strength, as most of our recent buys is more about muscle than intelligence. De jong would not have bought if he had frame like Puig.

kiranai

Idk, neither de Jong or greizmann are known for their strength, and both are known for intelligence and work ethic I would say

[deleted]

Yeah but if you see from outside they will look strong comparitively. Many social media Barca fans wants Puig to get rough tackle so that he can become man. What an idiotic logic?

bernardolima951

I mean, you do want your midfielders to be have a good build, specially in a team like Barça that constantly gets overrun physically.

[deleted]

Nope we had Xavi, iniesta and busquets and all the short frame guys. We actually created example that you don't need huge build to succeed. We are not stoke lol.

bernardolima951

Those are 3 of the most talented midfielders of all time. Also they weren't big but Xavi and Iniesta pressed like crazy and had lots of stamina. Vidal and De Jong are not only better on the ball than Puig or Aleñá, they're also stronger and faster. Why would you count on them in this situation if you're aiming for a treble every season? People overrate these Masia players, Puig might one day turn good but he's tiny and is constantly muscled off the ball. Your midfielders need to be press resistant. Look at City's or Liverpool's or Real's midfielders. Strong and resilient midfielders can also be good on the ball. I'd argue they are a necessity these days.

[deleted]

Lol do you seriously think vidal is better on the ball. When did you saw Puig get muscled off the ball. His ball retention is one of the best of our academy players. No offence mate but vidal and rakitic should not be no where near our squad if we want to improve our game and want our identity back.

godofh3ll

They have Busquets and De Jong its ok

mohankohan

That's the best quality of any midfielder imo, no fear, always ready to receive a pass.

[deleted]

Tell that to raktic lol. That's shows how much lampard believe in intelligence over muscle. Pedro has been good too but age is catching him.

mohankohan

Aye, but pedro never seems to run out of gas - he has lapses of concentration offensively, but recently he has been absolutely INSTRUMENTAL defensively. Especially against liverpool.

[deleted]

He had did in form like many player in 2013-14. And many social media Barcelona fans as usual being flip flop wanted him gone. But when he performed as a sub in 14-15 they were like it's better he stays. He is good player to you I think. Last game against Liverpool he was amazing.

mohankohan

He's very good for experience, story goes that he's a great role model for the younger players. He's also good as a rotational players. Sometimes he's pretty average, but he can have games where he really ties the whole team together. Overall really happy to have him at chelsea.

[deleted]

In big game, he always shine. He did for us and so for you I suppose.

_Rookwood_

I'm surprised Pedro didn't start against Bayern tbh, what was Frank thinking?

[deleted]

Against Bayern their midfield and defence was non existence.

bustedracquet

Pedro's football IQ is still so high, it's a shame he just doesn't have the legs anymore to do what he used to do.

[deleted]

Yeah recently when I said in one of the comment in football Reddit that Pedro was important players for us during peak 08-11, people were like he was avg. Seriously I will never understand the recency bias.

bustedracquet

Like a young Scottish Verratti.

[deleted]

Yeah similar to verrati. Hope he does not face online abuse by fans if he has dip in form later on considering his age.

EliteKill

Chelsea fans are patient with form if the attitude is fine, especially when it comes to youth. Even Torres got through over 100 appearances with the fans still behind him.

[deleted]

It's true for every real fan whether it's Chelsea or united or Barcelona. The problem is online fans who go to abuse player to even going for racial slur.

Barry_McCocciner

Yeah Tammy went through a very rough spell where he was both playing poorly and looked mentally lost, constantly yelling at teammates, always on the ground, etc. which lost him a lot of the immense support he had from starting the season absolutely on fire. For the record I still love him but he's far from a finished product and we need to be patient.

rilinq

I’d like to see his rendition of Shine on you crazy diamond.

[deleted]

Gilmour & Mount combined age of 39. Ridiculous.

lewis30491

Lamps is 41

VictorAkwaowo1

Ughh I love Gilmour

harshmangat

Love happy Gilmour

ergotofrhyme

These jokes will haunt him his entire career. First time I ever saw him play one of my commentators just couldn’t resist and lineker said something to the tune of “the only disappointing part of the first half was that happy Gilmore reference.” Lineker is going to be living in disappointment the rest of his punditry career if this kid keeps starting

Max0699

Absolute dominance from Chelsea

Giraffe_Baker

Our midfield's a mess at the moment. Needs gutting for next year.

ghostmanonthirdd

Swear you lot have been saying this for years now. Gomes, Gbamin and a new signing what you're hoping for next season?

Giraffe_Baker

In an ideal world you bin Delph, Davies, Schneiderlin and Sigurdsson. Realistically that's not going to happen though so we'll need another CM, one who can hopefully run not at a snails pace, and a new right winger. Then there's RB which is a big concern too.

ghostmanonthirdd

Would Davies not be worth keeping as a backup or is he that useless? Is Coleman past it/Sidibie not good enough?

Giraffe_Baker

Davies isn't good enough really. Sidibe's woeful defensively and Coleman's unreliable with injuries now.

ghostmanonthirdd

Is Kennie your long term RB plan?

Giraffe_Baker

Who knows. Seems like he's enjoying his time out there but not sure he's up to the quality we need for first choice.

Max_Eon

Is Sigurdsson past it? I rated him highly and all of a sudden he disappears

Giraffe_Baker

Utter garbage. He just never wants the ball. He scored a lot of goals last season as a second striker but further back he's anonymous.

Cameronman1329

Barkley definitely seems up for it. Constantly looking to get involved.

bocojaLFC

british chemistry. Jorginho, Kovacic and Kante were only holding them back

ergotofrhyme

You joke, but I swear some pundit will unironically make this argument after the game

dontwuwwy

and half this sub will eat it up

ergotofrhyme

Eh, it’s not that bad here. Reddit is a younger demographic than usually goes for the yer da xenophobic shit. And Kanye is r/soccer’s darling (perhaps deservedly)

dontwuwwy

oh i didn’t even think of it as the xenophobic thing ur right. i just meant this sub will swear that barkley pedro and gilmour should always start and should have always been starting and that it was obvious all along

ergotofrhyme

Oh I see yeah you’re spot on there, r/soccer knows everything, they just prefer to reveal their predictions retrospectively

AT194

Barkley getting stuck in, wonder how he’ll celebrate if he scores haha

xxx-God-of-Cod-xxx

think Everton are just a bit shit tbh

[deleted]

They were one of the most in-form teams coming in to this match and comfortably beat Chelsea earlier on in the season.

BattleWhisk

To be fair, this is the first half. Just wait until the second half and we'll concede 3.

Fuck_off_kevin_dunn

JuanMataCFC

well, i don't mind if we concede 3 now! just as long as we don't concede a 4th!

unexpectedvillain

Comfortably?

[deleted]

Yes

unexpectedvillain

Mate Chelsea were all over Everton that match

CFC509

I think you're confusing that match with another one. Everton away was one of our worst performances this season.

[deleted]

Everton were all over Chelsea, got the job done early, and closed up the defence whilst Chelsea couldn’t create any clear scoring opportunities.

MorioCells

Yep. We couldnt do much except pass it around, most of our players were playing average or bad except for kovacic who scored our consolation

erldn123

Disagree. They've been good under Ancelotti and it's not like they are going against Kova-Jorginho-Kante...... Think this is good Chelsea rather than bad Everton IMO

[deleted]

Being an Everton fan must be brutal

Hendrik-Cruijff

Not many are worst...

[deleted]

Love this guys work ethic. Deserved that Gilmour involved too. Chelsea with half the team injured is the best kind of Chelsea

forgotfackinpassword

Kind of Chelsea that won the CL

ofnw

Ryan Bertrand on the left wing type beat

CFC509

Doesn't beat Boswinga as centre back against peak Messi.

Wewladcoolusername69

Beaten by the brow

sean85

>Browbeat

BattleWhisk

Bosingwa out of position is best Bosingwa.

unexpectedvillain

Mata controlling play as usual

LiamAddison

Chelsea Mata was a serious baller

unexpectedvillain

That lad was a real wizard

[deleted]

Misses a penalty in CL final. Didn’t mata in the end.

Chaos \\[T]/

superdream100

ish a ladda

DiegoAR13

Dont give me hopes

OleoleCholoSimeone

Pedro is underrated for his contribution as a Chelsea-player, he was so good in Conte's first season especially You can see that he was trained at La Masia and learned a lot from playing for the best club side of all time, his movement, tactical intelligence & work rate is superb and has very good base-technique. And even when playing poorly he always has the balls to try something, it may not come off but he never hides on the pitch

nazzyman

Not by Chelsea fans, Pedro has always been a fan favourite, he's so good. Just getting old now so some of the stuff we're used to from him has died down abit

Pek-Man

I think Pedrito is the sort of player, that would be massively loved by the fans in virtually any club around the world. He always works hard, is a clever footballer, contributes so much with his off-the-ball movement, and is generally just a super likable guy. I really, really miss Pedro in Barcelona but it makes me so happy to hear that you guys love him as well!

Nizbizkit

The guy plays with energy. Even the small movements and passes seem kind of lively. Really fun player to watch

OleoleCholoSimeone

It was easy to underrate his skills at Barca because next to those players he was mainly a workhorse, but for a slightly more modest team his technical quality & energy can really shine through

THEBEAST666

A Chelsea in crisis is a Chelsea to fear

[deleted]

TrueBlue98

Blithe17

Chaos is a ladder

GryffindorSword

Littlefinger would definitely be a City fan

mohankohan

Nothing is more dangerous than a chelsea team in crisis.

NotClayMerritt

Chelsea in a crisis = 2009 Barcelona

PeanutBlocks

Honestly Pedro has been fantastic ever since joining. This man has won everything there is to win in Football, but never fails to put in a shift. Youngsters in the team watching him have A LOT to learn from this absolute professional.

ergotofrhyme

Is it just me or does Pedro look more like the villain in a will ferrel comedy about formula 1 racing than a footballer?

[deleted]

I’m sure he’s in The Wacky Races

[deleted]

Drat! And double drat!

JuanMataCFC

what i wanna know is ... where has this Chelsea been for the last 8 months?!!

[deleted]

A Chelsea winger needs to provide more though Pedro is shockingly average 9 out of 10 times.

unexpectedvillain

Saying he's average 9 out of 10 times is a stretch. He clearly isn't a great winger but he can provide something to the game. He's tenacity is world class and he can just be all over the place

Eric_Partman

He has 1 goal and 1 assist this season. Both in this game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Eric_Partman

I’m not acting like anything. I just stated a fact.

[deleted]

Nah he has 3 assists and 2 goals now. He had a goal and an assist against Grimsby and an assist against Nottingham. Still bang average though. Especially considering he has made 1125 minutes mostly against easier opponents this season.

Eric_Partman

I’m talking about league play.

[deleted]

Prior to this match he has had 2 assists and one goal in 1125 minutes of play time this season. Those goal contributions came from matches against Nottingham and Grimsby. He is literally the definition of average.

iloveartichokes

He's been really bad this season, hasn't deserved minutes.

AER0__

Chelsea have been on fire today

MagyarFoci29

Their form from the Liverpool match has carried over it seems

SirDowns

Everton trying too hard to be like us.

vk2499

Beautiful from Barkley

Jolly_Jr

Someone must have told him that it's pre-season.

404randomguy404

Deserved. Chelsea have been in total control and Everton are all over the place. Here I was actually expecting a tight game.

[deleted]

Barkley assist as well

imtherealdazza

That pass was fucking orgasmic

slickshot123

Gilmour's forward play is insane

AidanAzzar

It’s Ross time.

AT194

I still expected him to get caught! Poor defending tbh

JuanMataCFC

so far Ancelotti really isn't enjoying his first return to Stamford Bridge is he?

tottenhamnole

Everton just didn't want to show up today, eh?

ivan_rofl

Why do we play so good?

MajorTomintheTinCan

We're in crisis :D

ivan_rofl

Crisis Chelsea best Chelsea

Chelsea_Kias

Ok it's not what I'm used to

ScopezX

Shocking defending

Chiswell123

It’s also a great pass tbf

ScopezX

Yeah true

[deleted]

Those are mostly two great passes, they completely took the defense by surprise, giving a second of advance to Chelsea and that is enough to make defenders look bad.

Ariandelmerth

Keane is Championship quality.

BONGLISH

Huge exaggeration, having Davies and Sigurdsson in a midfield 4 is an absolute disaster, this must be one of the slowest, weakest midfield 4’s ever fielded in the league.

Thesolly180

Sidibe has been caught with that situation before today too. Doesn’t do a great job of following or even passing the man on in that situation

BONGLISH

Can’t defend at all, has got us a good few assists but nobody wants to see him signed permanently.

rasinansar

Is this the real life

rodders0223

Oh that is sexual.

masonbrit

Oh that is fucking delicious. Billy goat

[deleted]

wtf we are playing so well

samuelrl

Gilmour is fucking good.

ExtensionChapter

Lmao one of our weakest benches this season, doesn't look like a team crippled with injuries. Love what Frank has done with Chelsea, we look really good.

[deleted]

Loving the gilmour kid. Wanting ball everytime, asking players to pass the ball in the direction, small frame. Good from lampard to give the kids chance. Wish Puig get the chance for us.

villematic_

Vintage

MakIRAQ

my boy just scored 🖤 Also, great game by Lampard so far.

TheRomitPatil

Chelsea firing on all cylinders today!

EmperoaaR

Gilmour is so effective. Doesn't waste a pass, moves the ball in one or two touches, and makes it easy for everyone around him

PapaTinzal

Fuck me Barkley what a pass

FudgingEgo

What happened to top 4 is lava?

[deleted]

Come April, nobody will want to be top 4 lmao

Beanme666

Gilmour looks fantastic. Definitely one to watch.

psalmjuan

Really miss Pedrito. One of the best wingers we had at Barca in a long time. Never asked for the spotlight. Was never a flashy player. Just showed up and poured his heart out.

thisisboz

Chelsea look like the best team in the world at the moment.

slickshot123

What a build up

[deleted]

Pedro 😍 wholly deserved

Pacem_et_bellum

Emo Ancelotti

notrealslim

Everton must have missed Barkley

STIFANN

What is this

[deleted]

the fuck mate

strickyy

Barklinho with a peach of a pass.

[deleted]

Everton is getting spanked 😂

[deleted]

What a pass from Ross fucking Barkley!

Seanxprt

He's genuinely been quite good today. Him, Pedro, Mount and Gilmour have been putting in a shift.

tomrichards8464

Honestly, that was Barkley's best performance in a Chelsea shirt... and he was still our worst midfielder today, despite being very good. Gilmour, Mount and (when he came on) James were lights out.

Here's to the people who were shitting on him when he was tired and fluffing a shot last time. This time with fresh legs, here you go.

AZU_1

Secret agent Carlo

[deleted]

Kind of out of loop, but was Chelsea midfield this solid without Kante?

haaaaaairy1

Unfortunately it’s been better this season without kante.

Unholysinner

No but we had arguably easier fixtures. He was our best player in the games against City and Liverpool. Don’t think he works very well with Jorginho though but who knows. We’ve not really been able to choose our best midfield three this season.

[deleted]

I love that Gilmour turned and played forward there. Don't want to be reactionary but I can't help but feel Jorginho plays back to a CB there.

nightfucker

Everton's midfield looks like they're not enjoying the game.

Hey so I'm doing this project right, where I'm trying to raise money for people to be able to play soccer, by getting equipment, coaches, and a safe place to play the game. I know a lot, if not all of you love the game of soccer, so if you have any money you are willing to donate to this fund, even a dollar will work, please do. [https://donate.ussoccerfoundation.org/fundraiser/2566150](https://donate.ussoccerfoundation.org/fundraiser/2566150)

Just offside?

JuanMataCFC

nope.

Must feel awkward for Barkley doing that to the club you’ve loved all your life
