I don’t know if it was just the tv but the atmosphere seemed truly amazing! Newcastle fans singing so loud then Forrest fans massive roar. Seems Amazing good job everyone!

CreativeOrder2119

Interesting talk of isak heritage like the debate just shows talent is everywhere is all about nurturing

Hendos-Balls

What debate?

ImAnOldChunkOfCoal

I'm pro VAR. But Christ the Premier League has just done such an awful job of it with their "higher standard". This season some truly awful VAR decisions has fucked Newcastle out of a decent few points. To the point where investigations had to be opened. Today was just baffling. Thankfully it all worked out in the end. But if you're needing to call a ref over to view the monitor for an *offside* then surely it isn't a clear and obvious error when it wasn't even offside to begin with.

ajtct98

At this point I'm totally convinced that these so-called 'mistakes' with VAR are a deliberate attempt from referees to sabotage the whole thing so that the Premier League scrap it and with it the last vestiges of accountability for refs in this country.

Ok-Fan7002

Surprised to see how close Newcastle are to Spurs and United now, a few weeks back there was talk of a United title charge, now they are probably more concerned with looking over their shoulder.

snemand

Haven't Newcastle been above United for the majority of the season?

jordeatsu

I think we were for a good few months at the start of the season but post World Cup we dropped 2/3 places and now we’re trying to claw our way back up Our next game is against Manchester United so massive 6 pointer in that

duclegendary

Don't believe whatever tabloid and media made up perspective. Not even Utd fans were saying title charge. Journo drum up some made-up title for clickbait

zcewaunt

No one except tabloids were talking about a United title charge. Top 4 has always been the goal.

Tr0nCatKTA

Weren’t the team talking about it before the Liverpool game?

duclegendary

Source?

Tr0nCatKTA

If you google Man United whatsapp title theres a good few different papers reporting it

duclegendary

You believe reports from the Sun????

Tr0nCatKTA

Its not just the Sun reporting it

duclegendary

Ah Yes, the Mirror and Daily Express too. All credible sources, not tabloids at all

JCZ1821

Confirmed: My cats are not fans to my loud cheers of Newcastle being awarded PKs late in games.

MisterHappySpanky

Game 1 of a 7 pick parlay in the books. Here’s hoping I nailed the other 6. Newcastle really scrapping together wins, can see them finishing top 4.

meganev

Justice in the form of a football game. Tried to rob us at the City Ground again (our game in the Championship in 16/17 is legendary for the refs fucking us over), but Isak said fuck that!

HappyGirlEmma

Liverpool stays where it belongs!

Hendos-Balls

Who?

BabaDuda

I can think of 2 teams I'd much rather be out of the top 4 than them fwiw

rkaminky

Top of the league and still shitting yourself about us. And you lot wonder why no one likes you since the Wenger sacking.

bigdickbenzema

Why does everyone act like one fan speaks for an entire fanbase all the time lmao. Chill out

ncastleJC

That’s what banter does. Some people just naturally stir the pot and some people live for it lol

DerridasCircle

Banter was more fun when you could see the upvotes and downvotes. Now everyone is too nice

It's so great. I remember post match-threads used to be like this, and I've sorely missed the format, so thanks :)

QuantumPajamas

I prefer these threads over the individual goal ones. Just my $0.02

This is good because you can at least have the goals consolidated in one place. Of course u/PSGAcademy might lose out on his juicy karma tho....

It’s great having everything in the same place.

EyePiece108

I saw a Youtube video of Isak years ago, making 3 opposition defenders look stupid while playing for Sweden. When Newcastle brought him I thought 'bargain!' Still do after tonight. What a player.

trollu4life

I saw him play against Espanyol. Lanky fucker was causing havoc for the defense making those diagonal runs. This was back in 2019. Couldn’t believe when he signed for new castle that he was 21!

Qiluk

They had to go for Isak because you guys snatched up the other Swedish striker GOAT.

PrimalTripping

It really seems like Newcastle are willing to overpay for a where a player is currently if they think that player will improve in the long run. I think isak, Gordon and maybe Bruno fall into that category

LAUNDRINATOR

I don't think anyone ever thought we overpaid for Bruno but I otherwise get your point

PrimalTripping

Overpay might be a stretch but I think buying any midfielder from France in January while you’re in a relegation battle is a risk. Obviously he’s quality but it’s hard to know how he’ll settle in and I think that’s reflected in eddies reluctance to throw him into the first ten straight away

Radthereptile

Funny enough he was apparently scouted by the previous group. They had a list of “Players to buy if we had unlimited money.” And Bruno was #1 on the list.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PrimalTripping

My memory may be deceiving me but it seems like players coming from other premier league teams (Burn, Targett, Pope) get first team appearances consistently quicker than those coming from foreign teams (Bruno, Botman and Isak)

robb0216

He has explained in some press conferences in the past when asked about sitting certain players after arrival that he likes to have them just simply sit and watch the game for at least a few weeks so they themselves can assess the style, the differences, and the tempo and work out how their own game may have to adjust, how they can flourish etc. He is of the opinion that it is far more beneficial to do from afar rather than when you're running around the pitch focusing on playing the game at hand. I'm sure other managers do the exact same thing, but with video. I suppose he just has his own preference.

900-Dollarydoos

That has definitely happened, with previous explanations being that he has essentially not wanted to throw them into the deep end, considering the physicality etc in England, compared to other European leagues.

nmd87

That was a deserved win for Newcastle. They were by far the better side and I don't really know why that goal was disallowed. And I say that as a Forest fan.

Competitive-Shock88

The geordies getting closer and closer to the shites of North London!

KennyOmegaSardines

We be happy to beat them for you. Just don't bottle the league! 😂

Competitive-Shock88

You know what that means though… You gonna have to give us those 3 points at SJP come May and not fuck us over like last season lmao 😭 But yes. PLEASE smash those scumbags to 4th 🙏

KennyOmegaSardines

Can't guarantee that mate but you can be sure we'll beat the Spuds 😂

machdel

Justice

DunciRunci

If the offside was given for Forest not having control of the ball then surely when Botman hit it back to Dennis who was offside it was just as not under control

TLG_BE

Nice try but Denis wasn't in an offside position when the last Forest player touched it

HighTurning

Dude was playing basketball there

justmadman

I don’t think I called out a referee so early in a match as I did today. That ref needs to be demoted as soon as possible. You have PL bad and then you have this hall of shit referee.

MrDeftino

Thank fuck for that pen. VAR nearly robbed us. Although tbf we got away with a stonewall pen against Wolves last week so I guess it’s about time we got shafted again. Good performance again but my heart would like it more if we could score more of the 65,488 chances we make per match.

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

Would have been an absolute farce had Newcastle not won that. Reffing was awful.

vearz

Basing it off this interview alone, but Isak seems like a good lad.

PrimalTripping

When ashworth came from Brighton there was talk of him bringing a “no dickhead rule” with him from there. That definitely seems true looking at both teams to me

WayneBrownIsSuperman

Haha he's been funny as fuck

Jackski

People gave us shit for paying 60m for Isak because he got injured. He's come back and looked fucking immense every time. What a player.

Vladimir_Putting

Nah, he's a quality player. I was jealous when you signed him.

sackofshit

Only Kane and Haaland with a better goals-per-minute ratio currently. Much smaller sample size of course but he’s been fantastic when fit.

DunciRunci

Forest very nearly getting away with daylight robbery

kevinjqiu

Would rather concede that than conceding in the injury time.

TheBestSleuthEver

Surely Isak has to start over Wilson now going forward? He is so much better on everything compared to Wilson. Top class player. Newcastle are gonna build their team around him and be a top 4 contender for years to come. Insane that Man U and Arsenal never went for him considering they also need a similar striker, and Isak is probably the best you can get right now in that age bracket.

WayneBrownIsSuperman

>Newcastle are gonna build their team around him We have a spine of Botman, Bruno and Isak. I'm excited

PrimalTripping

You could almost say we’ve got Bruno in the middle and he knows exactly what we need, Botman at the back, Isak in attack and that Newcastle are going to win the premier league,

d-ronthegreat

No shout-out to Pope?!

WayneBrownIsSuperman

Obviously love the guy and he is unreal, but he's 30 so the team won't be built for the future around him

MisterHappySpanky

Pope is 30!? Why did I think he was much younger?

throwawayursafety

Baby face. Couldn't even begin to picture him with facial hair but if he could grow it it would probably help

CaptainGo

Goalie mind so not impossible to get five or six more good years

WayneBrownIsSuperman

Nah for sure man, and I hate the assumption that players turn shit on their 30th birthday. But I just mean Botman, Bruno and Isak are young enough for us to build a team around them for the next decade

Logseman

For a keeper that’s not so old that he can’t be 4 or 5 years on goal.

Anonamoose12771

We should turn that into a chant

meganev

Feel like it would get oversung quite quickly, so maybe we shouldn't...

joelintoninasda

YEEEEEEEEEEES

_ClippersFan_

Well played Newcastle, deserved the win and disgusted by our performance, honestly. I love Cooper but why we're still playing as if we have a target man when we haven't had one since Keinan last season (Awoniyi isn't a target man) I have no idea. Our/Cooper's whole game plan is centered around long balls up to the striker/wingers and then releasing the player in behind. Without a competent hold up striker we're relying on pieces of brilliance from individuals which you just cannot get consistently. Coops did a fantastic job changing to a 4atb when his trusted 5atb wasn't working to start the season but this is the only thing that is irking me to the core. Also, Shelvey absolutely cannot play in a 2 man midfield. I noticed on so many occasions when a Newcastle player had the ball on the wing and was working their way inside, Shelvey would be hiding in the box marking nobody and when the ball made its way into the box he'd try his usual last ditch risky challenge.

beatski

The only time Shelvey has worked in a 2 man mid is when he's had a gutbusting ball winner next time him (Diame), it doesn't work otherwise

Logseman

He doesn’t have enough in the tank to play a 2-man midfield, but man did I miss those slicing passes in the first half. Curiously enough Murphy of all people gave a tasty one for Anderson later, but he tripped for the 3rd time of 17 and he didn’t get to the ball.

Remarkable-Tackle

Can only assume Anderson didn’t have any studs on his boots. Incredible how many times he slipped.

WayneBrownIsSuperman

Frustrating game and got pretty angry at times, mainly at the ref, but a deserved 3 points. Still got a major soft spot for Forest and hope they stay up, but fuck me I'm glad we won tonight

xdlols

Rather not have Burnley v2 up if their only tactic is kicking the shit out of the opposition.

[deleted]

You're getting shat out of the league any way looool Edit - give me 1000 downvotes if you want Leeds are still going down like a lead balloon

WayneBrownIsSuperman

Don't think them staying up is gunna have much effect on you next season mate

xdlols

Hmu in a couple of months lol. Heard this shit all of last season too.

Cahootie

He's not even the best Swedish former AIK striker from Stockholm of Eritrean descent, Henok Goitom is the GOAT.

ProKaleidoscoper

I could only think of two off the top of my head Kenya - Victor Wanyama and Zambia - Godfrey Chitalu As a Newcastle supporter, big ups Gael Bigirimana (Burundi). Honorary mention to Saido Berahino. 23 goals in the prem is nothing to scoff at, especially that 2014 season.

aidanbby

Wanyama is another

eht217

Hes Swedish no?

Hendos-Balls

Nah he's a GEORDIE now

grmthmpsn43

His parents are Eritrean but he was raised in Sweden. And Swedish not Swiss.

Cytizens9320

If European clubs had access to Chinese population, you'd see world-class talents.

Qiluk

100% agree with your point of Africa, and especially east africa, being underdeveloped, overlooked and underrated in terms of sporting talent. However I dont think Isak is a great example of saying "see? theres talent there!" considering he was born, raised and schooled in Sweden so his talent was both created and nurtured outside of Eritrea.

MagnoliaDance

Well, Forest did their best, I guess. Don Revie would've been proud.

MastermanM

I think I may have felt every possible human emotion during that match. Genuinely can't think of one I may have missed.

Geordant

Boredom?

MastermanM

Had to wait for my fish fingers to cook at half time.

Hoppit124

This had me in stitches

timthetoon

Nice to Anderson get long run out, have to imagine he starts next game; sucked to see his moment disallowed

justmadman

He is not starting if Miggy and Gordon are back against Man Utd even if those two are not back you start with ASM, who was poor today.

crapsence

Euro cup dream is still alive Isak is amazing

He was probably feeling bad about all the bs they've been doing so he gave Newcastle a penalty 🤣

Common_Passenger9261

Ref needs investigating for this game. Even without the VAR he had an absolute shocker.

VarukiriOW

Ref needs investigating for the Wolves game you guys had too

Sarmerbinlar

Shelvey, Schär and Willock all finished that game without a card. And Lodi only got one for a nothing foul at the end of the game as well, shoulda got one for the handball in the first half. Absolute insanity.

trollu4life

Officiating was terrible all around. Don’t think either of the teams benefitted

enazj

Shelvey not getting one was genuinely incredible. Swear he committed four fouls including a scissor tackle from behind in the first 20 minutes or something

Sarmerbinlar

Felt like a makeup for Dennis getting booked for a challenge that wasn't even a foul and preventing us having a break. But yes I did think the scissor challenge was a yellow at a minimum

echoecho25

Huge result to get all 3 pts in the race for UCL

EmptyDopamine

Hahaha, catching Burn getting in on the EIEIO, love it

FoxBox123999

Forest are a dirty team. Kick the opposition off the pitch and hoof ball for 90 minutes. Two footed lunge from behind after a few minutes could have broke an ankle.

Hendos-Balls

Impressive to be just as county as the last time we played thre. Didn't even need to Lansbury

thepresidentsturtle

> Forest are a dirty team. Kick the opposition off the pitch and hoof ball for 90 minutes. Can only respect when a team sees the opportunity and takes it.

HarrBathtub

He is HIM 🐐

TLG_BE

Anderson is getting all his big moments ruined. First starts are away cup games when the rest of the team doesn't turn up. First league start gets bought off after 30m due to Pope's red. First goal gets weirdly disallowed.

Logseman

When the goal was confirmed to be disallowed, his reaction was to shrug it off and say “play on”. That’s the right attitude, and I appreciate that the camera was there to show it. He showed glimpses of why he’s highly rated today.

LHJM_

Tbf he was shite in the cup and I almost wrote him off completely but he was immense tonight Genuinely shocked the goal was disallowed feel awful for him

DunciRunci

I agree he looks wicked but he needs to get some new boots, they must be coating his studs with butter everytime he plays

FuhhCough

How does someone like Matt Ritchie get into a team with players like Alexander Isak?

ImAnOldChunkOfCoal

There will be no negativity towards Ritchie here. Chap is a legend. If he reads this he's gonna show up to your gaff and destroy a corner flag.

beatski

By being proper radge

thepresidentsturtle

By being a fantastic person to have in the dressing room. He's a large part of the reason why Sean Longstaff is playing so well. Also, Saint Maximin, Joelinton, Almiron, Gordon and Fraser all being unavailable helped.

MiguelAlmiron

I cant believe the Narrative that Longstaff is good. He's ghosting most games he's in.

Zerosix_K

Years of a lack of investment in the club by Ashley and injuries.

MiguelAlmiron

Longstaff aswell howay.

Jaydenn7

Longstaff has been a key part of this season, doesn’t deserve to be targeted

_Pheel_

Our sheer lack of any real depth.

HarrBathtub

Happens when your 2 other wingers are injured.

empiresk

Three now. I assume ASM picked up a knock.

jay_alfred_prufrock

If there was a thorough investigation into referees and VAR officials in PL I'd bet that a lot of what we believe to be referees/officials being shit would turn out to be corruption.

[deleted]

Said it for ages now. Some clubs are paying their players more in a week than a ref earns in 3 years. Everyone has their price at the end of the day. I've been reading Mark Clattenburg's book too and he says that a lot of refs were influenced back in the day by Ferguson/Wenger, I cannot imagine much has changed these days even without them.

WigglyParrot

They're genuinely just so unbelievably bad

HarrBathtub

Don’t think there is corruption - it would be out by now. Just think it’s incompetence, still 10x better than the championship

Hoppit124

Referring in PL has been shocking for a long while now

[deleted]

Isak for 60m was a bargain I’m honestly certain he becomes world class at Newcastle

__JonnyG

“Bargain”

[deleted]

Yes.

__JonnyG

Spending 60m never gets you a bargain. He’s a great player will go on to do great things, but 60m is not a bargain ever unless you have gratuitous oil money.

StuartBannigan

Real Madrid got Ronaldo for 80 million 15 years ago and that was a bargain and a half.

__JonnyG

Definitely the same

Zig-Zag

So 80m can get you a bargain but 60m is never a bargain? Just trying to figure out where the line is here with your logic.

__JonnyG

Calibre of player is completely different. Shirt sales, global attraction etc would make a large part of that back. That was good business. When kids in Latin America are wearing Isak shirts get back to me.

Jaydenn7

Errr we do

Lroller1288

Boy, do I have news for you!

HarrBathtub

My goat 🐐

vDarryl

Felt like it was just wasn't going to be our night after the disallowed goal, fucking get in lads

DanEFC

Had it up to here with VAR and the officials.

Geordant

Can you let us know where you hand is indicating? If here is your ankles then we're OK, but if its at your forehead then yeah that's bad.

DanEFC

My arms are in the air and I'm on my tippy toes.

ajtct98

So glad we've won but if I was any of the teams around Forest I would be furious at Paul Tierney's performance tonight. Arguably, Forest should have had up to three red cards - Ayew for the challenge on Schar, Yates for pure accumulation of fouls and Shelvey for doing Shelvey things.

InsaneBirch

You drunk? 3 red cards? Lmao. Trippier getting swaddled tonight.

Molineux28

I was getting quite riled up tbf. I think the ref gave the penalty after hearing me shouting handball from here

SzplugOnSzplitz

Didn't have the chance to watch but I'm windmilling anyway

MrUnderlay

Fuck Paul Tierney, but at least we got justice. I thought Nottingham Forest put up a decent fight compared to when we played them at the start of the season, could be close but I reckon they can stay up

Thingisby

Quality performance. Don't understand refereeing. Isak is mint. Don't know what that Forest defender was doing.

jr2106

Neutral here but felt like that was a pen and at least 1 red in the first half not given

__JonnyG

Every pundit “Cooper has done a great job” Lmao Building a social club in red shirts maybe

tribalattack_

he did take a forest team bottom of the championship and practically favourites for relegation to the premier league tbf. Think he deserves some respect at least

__JonnyG

If that was still relevant sure. They’re in free fall, he’s spent a fortune and Ayew starts lmao

GreenBluePeachWhite

Have a little look at our injury list, lad. There’s a reason we’re playing Ayew.

__JonnyG

It’s shorter to read a novel than look at your squad

GreenBluePeachWhite

You mean the 25 man list, the same amount every one else has? We had to appeal to have a defender reinstated into our squad because of injuries to our back line. The amount of players we signed has nothing to do with it and everyone and their grandma throwing shade at us for it has become tired. Get over it.

__JonnyG

You’ll live

SheSaid09

I hope to christ that refereeing performance gets investigated because he's going to let someone get hurt. Not even the ridiculous offside decision, some of the tackles Forest got away with, especially in the first 15 minutes, were disgusting

nova_uk

Ref was awful tonight but Forest really have to hope that none of the other teams below them get points tomorrow, could be in the relegation zone in the next few weeks.

Kingsworth

Absolutely no idea how forest ended the game with 11 on the field.

nicofdarcyshire

No idea how we ended up with 11 on the pitch considering some of Forest's tackles!

Jahra11

12 men

tottenhamnole

Newcastle not looking particularly good and still getting the 3 points highly annoys me.

enzuigiriretro

The Spurs special coincidentally

tottenhamnole

You guys mates now or something?

HanktheDuck

We're new big 6 brothers now, you guys are out.

tottenhamnole

Leicester fans thought that same thing and they actually finished in the Top 6. So maybe you should do that first before making ridiculous assertions?

enzuigiriretro

Nah. It annoyed me all season too. But it also annoyed me about Spurs as well

36_Inch_Chain

We played better tonight than I've seen Tottenham play at literally any point this season, and we weren't even great.

tottenhamnole

We just played Forest last week and were much better against them then you were today.

Wilko91

Tell me you didn't watch the game without telling me you didn't watch the game

tottenhamnole

You had 4 shots on goal guy. Stop it.

crapsence

xg 0,41 vs 2,59 at least admit you are biased as hell
