Dressrosa and Wano

My favorite arc, I’m with you man

kaidynamite

Trust me man, dressrosa weekly was a nightmare. I do think that on reread when you can binge it, it’s one of the best arcs. But there were chapters where I just wanted to pull my hair out. Chapters where luffy is down and the colosseum commentator is running around. Chapters where luffy just running around the castle while pica keeps running away. Because there were so many characters and plot lines to juggle the chapter to chapter movement was incredibly slow. But it just reinforces the idea that one piece is best consumed in bulk. The weekly reading experience is not the best.

Really the buildup was worst then wanos buildup? Damn that’s crazy

kaidynamite

No it’s not about that. The buildup was fine. It’s just that when you get minuscule progress every week or sometimes every other week it’s very frustrating to read. I can explain it this way. If there are three plot threads to cover in a chapter maybe you could divide it into 33% of the chapter on average and move the story forward in a somewhat satisfying way. Dressrosa was like having 10 different plot threads going simultaneously and you’d get 10% movement on each of those every chapter and it leads to frustration because some of those plot threads are incredibly hype and some you don’t care about. The result of this is when they all reach their climax it results in this orgasmic crescendo which is amazing to read when you’re binging it but when you’re painstakingly going through it week to week it’s very painful

Bro the Wano buildup is so damn annoying it’s crazy but on the bright side of dressrosa how did gear fourth feel?

kaidynamite

Gear 4 was awesome. I remember that chapter specifically had a color spread throwing back to thriller bark to kind of call back to nightmare luffy and when gear 4 revealed it had some elements from that design which I thought was very neat Also speaking of wano, if you binge all of wano right now, I guarantee you won’t feel that annoyed at the buildup. It flows a lot better on binge

NextRepresentative17

So would you call gear fourth a reward for all that went on during dressrosa

kaidynamite

nah. id say luffy punching doffy into the ground and wiping the smirk of his face was the reward for dressrosa

NextRepresentative17

Yea for me dressrosa was my favorite arc at the time I finished it. I absolutely loved it but when I was watching it it was over already

Paper_Okami

Lol don't regret not being a weekly reader during Dressrosa, was a slog. The whole together is fantastic and is actually mostly well paced despite being 102 chapters, but week to week was absolute hell. It seemed like not much was happening most of the time. I quit reading weekly for like a year and a half and it still wasn't over. It was at the luffy vs Bellamy part which was absolute hell.

Really it was that bad? Seriously damn wow

gnome-cop

The problem with the manga is when you get to the action parts of the arc reading weekly things progress very slowly and no real story progress is made until the big bad is defeated. One piece is a slowburn and is best read in large chunks and not the small bits we get every weeks which makes the story feels so slow.
