If wanting to take pics/videos while kayaking/fishing, am I better off buying a used iPhone X or a point and shoot camera with some sort of waterproof case?

My guess is that at this point a modern cell phone is going to be better technology than a point and shoot. You could also look for a used GoPro. I use a cell and go pro and I get some great pics.

Tbh while my iPhone 12 is IP68 certified and should survive 30 minutes in 6m(??) depth there are still two problems: it will sink like a stone and I would not want it to get into contact with salt water. I’d need a floating waterproof case but the handheld footage will be shaky. An action cam would be a fraction of the cost and a head/body/fixed point mount would be preferable in my opinion. I have my phone in a dry bag in the front pocket of my pfd and it is okish to take a couple of shots, but certainly not fast to get it out.
