baysoi

This is my favourite part of the album.

Jacc02

I judged it too soon as 1/5 garbage, but it’s Ye and sure enough I’m back at the table. 3.5/5. Headphones go a long way to bring it to life.

shakenbake27

I feel you. I think with better overall production it would’ve been amazing but it just ain’t there imo

scotbud123

When are we gonna get the results/data from the surveys?

SpeedyTrout

I like the flow and beats that were used, but the lyrics are just so damn corny. I’ll stick with TLOP for a while longer

ERobski

They aren't corny, Jesus is bigger than Kanye and above and beyond more important and he's made his songs worth far more than entertainment and art. Alot people are bummed that he's no longer making music that would play well at a frat party but instead, he's singing about the most important topic possible about the King of the Universe and eternal life.

madvillain1992

Don’t be an idiot. It’s surface level bullshit. It’s like day 1 level of being a Christian. It’s also completely fake, Kanye selling shoes for 300 dollars and plastic plates with shit food on for 50 bucks. He’s just a right wing evangelical Christian who’s trying to right his wrongs by doing a silly album

Jacc02

Yeah, can’t f*ck with TLOP. This thing really calls back to Ye, TLOP, and Yeezus.

_Bruin_

sux

itsjaylin

Love how y'all did surveys! Great data..

EvolMind91

I became a heavy Kanye fan after MBDTF. I've always listened to him just never hardcore like go and hear every album on repeat until after that project. Hearing JIK I really really like it and can actually enjoy listening to it around my kids without having to skip or worry about the content. I would say it's different for sure but still has that sound/flow I've come to know and love. I've always been a favorite of his gospel like songs he's done in the past and this is no different.

sencersencer

This doesn't sound or feel like a full album to me. The production is really good, nothing spectacular but it's really good. I feel as if Ye could do a lot better than this tho. The lyricism is okay, there are some borderline corny lines here and there but most of it doesn't sound that preachy. This may be because of the streaming services and stuff and i'm sure Ye will fix it but the mixing is god awful. Some little details on this album really bother me, especially the kick drum in Follow God, it is way too punchy and it's in those higher frequencies that a kick drum really shouldn't be in, with headphones it's okay but when you're listening to it on small speakers it messes the song up which is a total shame because his flow on that song is amazing and the song would be a LOT better if they just changed that kick drum. It's an average/solid album, it really isn't anything special but it's not bad either, Ye could do a lot better than this, i think he should have never put a release date out for this and just waited a little more to "polish" it and change some details or even songs.

virg2121

I see what you mean but that was definitely intentional. It tones the song down just enough so that it doesnt punch too hard for the overall aesthetic of the album. It's meant to sound slightly less like a club banger

sencersencer

with all due respect i don't see how that could be true. it sounds god awful on smaller speakers and being a producer myself, i can say that they could easily find/make a bassy, lowkey kick sound that fit the song better than the one they already have which just sounds like a click. come to think of it, it probably has to do with the mix on streaming services rather than the actual song itself, i'm sure that they will fix it.

Hoes_madv2

Beautiful and masterful to its core the production is as usual masterful the lyrics are deep and the album feels like it was made for you solid 9/10

KaptainKorn

meh

FeelDaLuv

I think this album will be as fine as wine in a couple of years.

[deleted]

Only atheists hating lol yall dont like it cuz yall dont want 2

Aprocalyptic

I’m an atheist and I loved Coloring Book despite all of the Christian rhetoric.

N1NJ4_J3D1

Yeah but Coloring Book wasn’t trying to make you believe in God or force a message. It was just Chance being Chance. This is definitely trying to force a message

CommaDelimitedList

Wtf so if you are Christian you automatically like it?

eggnautical4

This is garbage

Chinmusic415

I can’t believe how many of you actually enjoy this album. As a long time Kanye fan, this album is just preachy trash.

ERobski

I thoroughly enjoy it, I'm not a rap fan but I've been listening to music my whole life and this is good. I have little interest in listening to his earlier stuff. Doesn't matter how good the artistry is in the past if he's pushing an ethic for a frat, strip club or the gutter. But now he sings for Jesus and the truth is authentic and eternal. His talents are clear in this album and now it's awsome that he's is giving his artistry to the service of the master artist who fashioned humanity with infathomable creativity and skill.

wrdbyrd

I mean he did have every song debut on the the billboard hot 100. [JIK debuts on Hot 100](https://www.facebook.com/15704546335/posts/10158658114121336?d=n&sfns=mo)

FlurgyDurg

I can see why you'd say that after a few listens. But songs like Follow God, Everything We Need, and Selah don't really have any preachy messages or overly christian messages. If you start to look at the album on a basis of individual songs only a few come of as annoyingly preachy.

nampster6

The songs that are overly preachy to me are Water and God Is

Chinmusic415

I’ll give it a shot. I only skimmed through it so looking at each song individually might help. Believe me, I want to LOVE it. I really really do.

InfinityGauntlet-6

Well then maybe actually listen to it then. 😂

Chinmusic415

I listened to it last night and my opinion still stands. You guys will eat up anything the guy puts out. It’s absolute trash. It doesn’t surprise me that it’s doing so well given his popularity but it’s pretty obvious that most people dislike it based on the reviews I’ve seen online. The album sales don’t automatically validate an album and this is the perfect example of this. The only positive reviews I see are those that praise him for talking about god lol. Oh well. I listened to each song at least 3 times and I think I hate it more now. I used to love Kanye and it’s sad that he’s chosen Christian Rap as a way to get his music out there.

InfinityGauntlet-6

It's definitely an album that will grow on you. Trust me, I didn't like it either on the first, second listen. Kanye singing straight gospel, as well as changing up tracks that have leaked (Selah, Everything We Need, Use This Gospel) into gospel tracks took some getting used to. This album, in my opinion, is in the lower tier of his discography, no doubt. But it's definitely not absolute trash. Maybe gospel music isn't your thing and that's understandable. Yeezus & 808s had the same effect on some people as well and now it's universally loved years later.

waitomoworm

Universally loved? Kanye West hasn't released a good album since 2007.

scotbud123

LOOOOOOL OOOOOOOK, this is has got to be bait...

waitomoworm

Nah he's been pretty mediocre since Graduation. Sucks because his early stuff is quite good.

scotbud123

Whatever you think about the last 2-3 albums...if you're even remotely trying to sleep on MBDTF you ain't a Kanye fan...

Totally different and 2nd one is the first version I guess

datjake

ya know, I like the “my eternal soul” part better in the updated version but its fucking beyond me why he messed with the “filled my cup” line because it’s so bad now. It made my favorite song on the album worse

InfinityGauntlet-6

Hands On has become my favorite song of the album.

jlange94

The production is really good but simple and the context of the lyrics has much more depth than people think or perceive. Melon said it just sounded like he was whining or comparing himself to Jesus in his persecution when in reality it's about finding his Faith and trying to become born again in it with everyone, even the Christians judging him for it. Which cannot be more true in reality.

kelvinkhleung

I did not agree with Melon at all when I saw the review lol

Kanye has always dropped albums that sync up to my life.....but I HATED ye. I hated Kanye for the past 1-2 years with all the bullshit he's been doing. With that said I can't LIE. I Love JESUS IS KING. The album feels like a kanye gospel album. I can't ask more than that. Ye is the ultimate artist.

GameNator

this album is holy shit

imillisock

I feel like the problem with JIK is the fact that it's trying to compartmentalize Ye's stream of consciousness that is his worshiping of Jesus through his music. It's very clear listening to the Sunday Services that the large majority of these tracks were meant to be sung with a full choir and stretched out several minutes longer; and with the addition of older songs like Ultralight Beam and FSMH, I really feel like Kanye's vision is much more clear. And this spiritual awakening Kanye's life is truly a triumphant moment for us to share with him, as I feel that Ye's story has always been about a man drifting away from God and getting lost within himself and the temptations that life surrounds us with, so to see him find his way back home after all of his darkest times is a wonderful thing for Him and for his family, and is certainly cause for celebration for all of us that support his well being.

[deleted]

Love God Is

Ddaviz8075

Best song on the album. Don’t even have to be christian to enjoy it

Mahaloth

I listened to the album today, which is stunningly only a half-hour long. 1. It's not the worst thing he has put out, which is not saying that much. I don't hate this album. 2. It's basically a demo album. Why so lazy? He made full albums about shallow topics. If he has had a religious experience, why not make a magnum opus length album? I think if had gone all in and made something big and incredible, people would have appreciated it more. This seems half-hearted. 3. What the heck is up with that Chick-Fil-A song? Weirdest thing I've heard in forever. It's like he made the Weird Al version of one of his songs.

Jacc02

Chic filet threw me off too, but that song is nice. Headphones.

[deleted]

I think it can be answered by Kanye not being inspired/motivated enough for long enough to see a full project through to completion these days. He changed inspiration after working on Yandhi and tried tweaking what he already did to fit his new inspiration, but the execution is not there.

HoopRocketeer

In the Beats interview he said that on Christmas Day he is dropping “Jesus is Born”, so maybe some of the work that should’ve made it on Jesus is King will be found there? Maybe that album will be more developed?

boyyoo

Christmas 2019 or 2025?

ChickenSalad96

Closed on Sunday and Use this Gospel are favorites, but that's it really. No hating here, just not my cup of tea.

scotbud123

boyyoo

Y’all I think we gotta admit it’s just not good lol the mixing awful, the lyricism is The Big Day levels of terrible, and the instrumentals are fine but nothing new, not even new for Kanye. All around bad.

datjake

Okay this is not as bad as the big day, you don’t have a clear view of this shit if you can’t see quality difference between the big day and jesus is king

SuperRedditLand

Yandhi is so good... can’t believe we were a week away at one point...

jordaneil5

anyone know if there will be a stream of today's (Nov. 3) service at the forum?

JamesN69

The life of Pablo > Jesus is king

Ducie

Yandhi leaks > The Life of Pablo

JamesN69

Nah, not compared to an entire album.

Ducie

Yandhi _was_ a complete album. The leaked songs count up to 30-50 minutes, depending which songs you cant. That's still more than Ye en JIK.

datjake

Runtime doesn’t equal an album, do you not understand how albums work? there has to be structure, cohesion, themes, narrative, similar sounds, story structure, etc. Yandhi certainly wasn’t finished, there’s no confirmed track listing, order, etc. I would have loved to see it finished but as far as what makes an album an album, Jesus is King is much more finished than yandhi (even though I personally feel like JIK is still not entirely completed)

JamesN69

Yeah but they’re just leaks, TLOP is crafted as one and has that flow to it where each song played after one another sounds like it’s in just the right place.

Ducie

Dude, I love TLOP. Some of my favorite songs are on it. That being said, it's kind of a mess. It does not flow great _at all_ and some songs just feel out of place. Great project, but more as a Playlist than a cohesive and tight story. Imo, it could lose a third of its runtime and only get better. Leaks don't flow, I'll agree to that. But TLOP doesn't flow as well, and has no excuse for it. A well polished Yandhi, with a few more months invested in it, could _easily_ surpass TLOP.

datjake

TLOP is supposed to be messy. It’s the duality of himself. it’s basically Ye’s White Album. Now as far as a finished Yandhi topping TLOP... I don’t know how to respond to that. It very well could have. I love TLOP and I definitely feel like Yandhi would have matched it or even topped it

JamesN69

At the end of the day it’s just a massive disappointment for us that it wasn’t released!

JamesN69

Maybe it’s just my bias then and how much I’ve listened to the album that is sounds that way! I would have much preferred Yandhi to JIK. I really didn’t rate that album and only liked one song on it.

jlyons99

The saxophone solo on use this gospel is the best part of the album change my mind

recovertheother

I see where you're coming from but for me, it's the way everything stomps back in all at once at the end of the solo.

falconlordermorder

I think that people disliked this when it dropped because they were always used to get something special from kanye, so this, even though it's a very good album, wasn't exactly that new sound they wanted that was so different from the rest, but at the same time it's still something different. I just don't get how people started liking it all of a sudden when they all said it sucked at first. The production is amazing imo

ERobski

People either hate it or love it. And that is a consequence of lifitng up Jesus. People are good with him because they are filled with light, or they retreat from him because they fear the light and dwell in darkness.

NikeSucksThaPeePee

Album's still ass, fam. We just realize there's no point in continually bitching.

InfinityGauntlet-6

Noticed that too. In the original he says this is my eternal soul with the same note but in the new version he changes his note on that part.

[deleted]

i didnt follow kanye that closely the last year, but it feels like all the time he spent at that church made him feel guilty about the yandhi tracks he was making, so he remade the whole thing in his christian spirit. but it's not as inspired as the yandhi leaks and is missing the classic kanye ego.

StraitOuttaOC

Use This Gospel is so good, I listened to it every day since release

bobmothafugginjones

I've been listening to it on repeat so much that I hear that car alarm ringing sound in the back of my head throughout the day. Less annoying than it sounds

OvertonOpener

>I've been listening to it on repeat so much that I hear that car alarm ringing sound in the back of my head throughout the day. Less annoying than it sounds I HATE THAT SOUND! It's like they left the metronome in the actual recording, only super loud.

rperesol60

So how were the first week sales for Jesus is King?

deafjamman

276k compared to ~180k with Ye and ~140k with Kids See Ghosts

datjake

pretty sure Ye had closer to 204k-206k

demon_lung_wizard

But if I talk about God my record won't get played, HUH??

Only a genius can create something like this, he’s a prodigy.. I’ve been a Ye fan since primary school; his latest works nor the publicity surrounding him do I agree with, however, this.... THIS.. is incredible (minus the one song that sounded like a filler track). FWIW, I follow no religious denomination(s).

ocean_life_

Yeah it's a good album in my personal opinion but it doesnt deserve the hype you're giving it in the SLIGHTEST lmao.

hanley168182

Yandhi far more superior .

scotbud123

Yandhi doesn't exist fam...

Cleakman

After several listenings and letting the album sit with me for awhile I have determined - in my opinion - the album is 10/10. Might be the best Kanye album - give it a few years.

NikeSucksThaPeePee

What the fuck are you smoking? Frankincense and myrrh?

laflameitslit

ok u dragging it bro.

datjake

oh fuck off. this album is enjoyable for people with no expectations but this is Kanye’s laziest, weakest and most unfinished album. Yeah the production is nice because it’s ye but there’s very little heart to this thing. Where are the features you’d expect to see this thing? why is the outro unfinished? why do half the songs build up to an interesting point and then go nowhere? This ain’t no 10/10. you cap. ya goof. go to bed

If that's one of his worse where do we place stuff like "Drunk and Hot Girls" and "Freestyle 4"? "Lift Yourself"? I know it's a troll but it's a Kanye song...Yikes is nowhere near "one of the worst" lol...

[deleted]

[удалено]

scotbud123

Ah, here's the disconnect. You hate Drake, I don't...makes more sense now.

datjake

nah ye was good. Intro was solid, violent crimes, no mistakes...? and all of that acts as a part 1 to KSG. You’re wrong if you think JIK is tighter than Ye especially paired with the album it’s connected to. big goofy

[deleted]

[удалено]

scotbud123

I love JIK, not saying it's bad, but Ye is a banger album.

datjake

KSG is connected JIK is literally soulless. It’s half baked. It’s blasphemous, surface level christianity mixed with a little of blasphemy. The mixing is shit, it has two of kanye’s worst songs in his discography, no cohesion, etc. you can’t right of Ye just because you want to be right. it’s short, follows a theme and then leads into a WHOLE OTHER ALBUM

[deleted]

[удалено]

datjake

the entire theme is his fuck ups and yeah because they are connected so context matters. you’re not actually wanting to debate it, it’s just “i’m right me good u bad” so not interested in that kinda brain rot

HoopRocketeer

It does feel in many places like we are climbing then the staircase just stops. God Is is a very fulfilling and complete track. Selah also. Two favorites.

SolitaryEgg

>ya goof. he really did it to em

Cleakman

You ain’t got dragon energy so you can’t catch the waves. My expectations were high and the songs are gold IMO.

bobmothafugginjones

Interested to hear more about what you like about the songs tbh

Cleakman

Without writing an essay; I think that the mixture of a good message coupled with his pure expression. I don’t think that everyone is in the same place to feel the vibes of this album, maybe especially so if they are atheist. He’s got some good flow and the songs are all pretty unique

puljujarvifan

I legitimately think that after climate change has killed most of modern society that humanity will crawl out of the cracks and new religions will form around Jesus is King while all other music is banned for blasphemy.

scotbud123

I've bumped it every day on the drive to and from work since it dropped 😂😂😂. Gotta keep Jesus and God close when you on the grind for that bread.

HentaiAtWork420

another masterpiece from kanye

Ri5eOne

If you have to release an album that’s 27 tracks of features and basically only builds on the idea that you actually have more money, more women, and more clout than another rapper - how is that better than 27 minutes of one person’s single focus on a powerful spiritual experience? Using a format that is normally full of a formulaic approach, just innovating slightly enough each time? Ye’s approach is not unique, doing a gospel album, but it is unique because of who he is, the platform he has, and the risks he ran making this album. It’s undeniably different.

BigGrown

The risks?! Writing an album that would appeal to an untapped Christian base that is alienated by hip-hop..and MAGA hat wearin fools who’s leader you could’ve easily predicted would give it a personal endorsement on Twitter in the wake of a few mediocre albums? He’s done a bunch of “risky” things over his career. This ranks low among them IMO 808s was “different”...or “Ye”...JIK, not so much.

Ri5eOne

Yeah I hear you but your reply, and that same response from so many people, further alienating Ye from a traditional rap fan base, is the real risk. Because when you think about it MAGA hat wearing fools probably aren’t going to rush online to head to his shows, keep buying his merch, or even know what Yeezys are. So if he alienates the people that got him here then that’s the real risk. And this album is crazy different from any other chart-topping rapper’s albums content-wise. It’s similar to a Christian artist’s, but Ye isn’t a Christian artist. So his lyrical content was so shockingly different than what at least I expected because I listen to other rap, I listen to other Ye, and this was a 180° turn. Not saying it’s genuine, not saying it’s the greatest music or album ever, but it is still to me incredibly risky and extremely different.

BigGrown

I disagree. I think his fan base, which includes myself, will continue to listen to his music, attend shows, and buy merch- it’s just that now, he’s invited a bunch of folks in who otherwise would just write him off. No real fan would drop him because he made a calculated business move- but, on the other hand, a bunch of Christians who want to believe he is spreading “the good news” and overlook that he was selling $50 socks at his Sunday Services will gladly jump on. For most Christians, hip-hop is a spiritual wasteland- they want to believe in Kanye. And he knows that.

Ri5eOne

I give him 2 more albums where he’s this popular - 1 where people see if he’s sticking to what he said, and if he does, 1 more after that, before his loyal fan-base starts jumping ship.

BigGrown

Agreed. At that point (if he sticks with it) I’ll concede that this album was inspired by a spiritual awakening and that indeed, JIK was a “risky” move

SR108

Absolutely true. Well put. It’s strange people can find issues with his evolution. In the past you’d hear Kanye and think, oh he’s flawed I can relate to that. So now when he seeks to make what he feels is positive inward change, we should hear Kanye and think, how can we make changes to improve ourself, is there something constructive we can learn from him? A lot of the criticisms I hear call him out as a hypocrite (Trevor Noah). Yet what can be more hypocritical than attacking a person trying to improve. No two people on earth will carry the exact same set of opinions or beliefs, but you can always appreciate a persons effort to find spiritual meaning, peace of mind and stability in family.

sf_frankie

I’ve had a drinking problem for way too long and on Tuesday night i was on day four of a bender, probably on my third pint of vodka that day. I was alone at home with the lights off listening to music when God Is came on. All of the sudden I got super emotional. I called my girlfriend, my best friend and my parents and told them I needed help. They all came to my house and together helped me get the help I need. I started detox the next morning and enter treatment this week. Kanye definitely inspired one person to at least try and and improve themselves, me. Maybe that’s a little corny and too personal but idgaf

SR108

That’s awesome! And such a productive thing to share for the sake of others :)

BigGrown

Oh good. Without Kanye, how would I ever think to make changes to improve myself? C’mon, man. We don’t come to Kanye for moral or spiritual guidance. We come for bars, humor, word play, attitude...not for a map on how to be or to find reflections to validate our existence. Kanye can improve himself all day- if he did it privately I’d believe it, but he hasn’t. It’s been hyped up and developed with one thing in mind: selling albums. He’s a monocled monopoly man before he’s a messiah...

ERobski

So Kanye found the life that was just about bars, humor and word play was empty and hollow. Good on him. It doesn't matter what his fans come to him for, now he's a fan of Jesus, and loyalty to Jesus means that he doesn't have a private faith because before you or Kanye ever got here, God incarnate who is redeeming this world said "everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven." So in reality, if his journey, the only journey that is real and will last into eternity, the only journey that won't burn in flames as will all things that are nothing more than entertainment, then it is a journey that addresses our complete humanity which is not just a private thing but also a very real public thing. After all, Jesus who he followed didn't teach truth in seclusion but on mountaintops and out in the open.

BigGrown

And this is why he is a genius businessman. He drops a single album and you are ready to call him a prophet. Jesus may have taught on mountaintops, but they weren’t in Wyoming, and he wasn’t selling designer socks at his services at $50 a pop to his disciples. Y’all are playing yourselves.
